  • Optical dot gain on newsprint determined with the Lund nuclear microprobe
  • 1997
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B. - Amsterdam : Elsevier. - 0168-583X .- 1872-9584. ; 130:1-4, s. 303-307
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A technique for measuring optical dot gain, i.e. the relative difference between the actual screen dot and the optically perceived one, is presented. By combining measurements from the non-optical nuclear microprobe with data from image analyzing technique the optical dot gain can be determined. The procedure to reach pixel by pixel correlation on a micrometer scale is discussed. In the newsprint sample studied in this investigation a typical optical dot gain between 15 and 20% was deduced. The variation in the optical dot gain was correlated with other characteristic parameters of the print and newsprint and especially a positive correlation to the mass density of the newsprint was observed. • Unpacking the Complexity of Science Teachers’ PCK in Action : Enacted and Personal PCK
  • 2019. - 1
  • Ingår i: Repositioning Pedagogical Content Knowledge in Teachers’ Professional Knowledge. - Singapore : Springer. - 9789811358982 - 9789811358975 ; , s. 271-286
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This chapter focuses on enacted PCK (ePCK), i.e. the specific knowledge and skills that science teachers use in their practice, as it plays out in specific classroom contexts while teaching particular content to their students. In unpacking this aspect of the Refined Consensus Model (RCM) of PCK, we consider both the nature of ePCK and its interactions with other realms of PCK, primarily personal PCK (pPCK). Recognising the complexity of classroom practice—in terms of both the uniqueness of each classroom situation and the necessarily spontaneous nature of classroom interactions—we propose a mechanism through which pPCK is transformed into ePCK, and vice versa, throughout the plan-teach-reflect cycle. We then illustrate these ideas using several empirical examples of efforts to capture and analyse science teachers’ ePCK (and associated pPCK). We conclude with discussion of some of the opportunities, challenges and implications of using the RCM, along with our unpacking of ePCK and its relationship to pPCK, as a means of understanding the knowledge that science teachers utilise in the midst of planning, teaching and reflecting.

  • A biometric approach to laboratory rodent identification
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Lab animal. - New York : Nature Publishing Group. - 0093-7355 .- 1548-4475. ; 36:3, s. 36-40
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Individual identification of laboratory rodents typically involves invasive methods, such as tattoos, ear clips, and implanted transponders. Beyond the ethical dilemmas they may present, these methods may cause pain or distress that confounds research results. The authors describe a prototype device for biometric identification of laboratory rodents that would allow researchers to identify rodents without the complications of other methods. The device, which uses the rodent's ear blood vessel pattern as the identifier, is fast, automatic, noninvasive, and painless.

  • Application of optical fluorescence spectroscopy to paper production
  • 1999
  • Ingår i: TAPPI INTERNATIONAL PAPER PHYSICS CONFERENCE. - Atlanta : Tappi Press. - 0898529549 ; , s. 429-436
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Fluorescence light emitted from paper following the absorption of either ultraviolet or visible light has a wavelength distribution determined by the chemical composition of the paper. This can be used both for laboratory measurements of paper characteristics and for on-line monitoring of the paper during production. Such measurements can be performed non-intrusively at sampling rates high enough to give a sub-millimetre resolution in the machine direction in a paper machine or rerewinder. In this project two types of fluorescence monitors have been constructed. They are operating at different wavelengths and thereby they monitor different substances in the paper. The monitors have been tested at newsprint producing paper mills together with an optical speedometer. The measurements in the production environment have shown that the equipment is capable of indirectly monitoring paper quality parameters which affect the local abundance of lignin. Examples of such parameters are the number of shives in the paper and wire marks. A fluorescence based method for scanning cross-directional newsprint profiles in the laboratory has been developed. From these measurements the relative shrinkage of the paper during drying can be calculated using time-frequency analysis.

  • Frictional evaluation of thermally sprayed coatings applied on the cylinder liner of a heavy duty diesel engine : pilot tribometer analysis and full scale engine test
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Wear. - Amsterdam : Elsevier. - 0043-1648 .- 1873-2577. ; 273:1, s. 82-92
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The piston system accounts for roughly half of the mechanical friction of an internal combustion engine, thus it is important to optimize. Different thermally sprayed cylinder liners were investigated in order to optimize the frictional impact of the contact between cylinder liner and piston ring/piston. A novel tribometer test setup was used to scan through different materials at different running conditions. Based on these results a full-scale single cylinder test was performed to validate the results from the rig. A comparison of the results between the tribometer and the engine shows the importance of the ratio between viscous and mechanical friction losses.

  • The autoantibody response to cyclic citrullinated collagen type II peptides in rheumatoid arthritis
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Rheumatology. - Oxford : NLM (Medline). - 1462-0324 .- 1462-0332. ; 58:9, s. 1623-1633
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • OBJECTIVES: The detection of anti-citrullinated peptide antibodies (ACPAs) is a serological hallmark of RA. Autoantibodies reactive with collagen type II (CII) are present in RA sera and synovial fluid and are potentially pathogenic. Here, we investigate the prevalence and specificity of the autoantibody responses to defined citrullinated cyclic peptides derived from CII in a China RA cohort. METHODS: Using bead-based multiplex assay, we examined the presence of autoantibodies binding to 54 cyclic 17-mer citrullinated CII peptides, encompassing all citrullinate epitopes in CII, and the corresponding unmodified peptides in 415 RA patients, in addition to 304 patients with OA. Furthermore, the autoantibody responses to a selected set of 10 cyclic citrullinated peptides were also examined in 203 healthy individuals. RESULTS: Autoantibody responses to cyclic citrullinated CII peptides were higher in RA patients as compared with OA patients or healthy individuals, whereas little or negligible antibody responses to cyclic unmodified CII peptides were observed. Interestingly, several novel citrullinated CII epitopes were identified. Antibodies to these novel citrullinated CII epitopes showed not only substantial overlapping reactivities but also had unique specificities. CONCLUSION: We found a high prevalence of autoantibodies against cyclic citrullinated CII in the sera of patients in a China RA cohort. The present study revealed heterogeneous binding patterns against novel citrullinated CII epitopes, which may help to stratify RA patients into different subgroups.

  • Red fluorescence sensor for noncontact on-line measurements in paper production
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Optical Engineering. - : SPIE-Intl Soc Optical Eng. - 0091-3286 .- 1560-2303. ; 40:8, s. 1674-1681
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A robust sensor is developed for on-line measurements in paper production. The sensor is designed for optimal response to lignin in paper. A diode laser operating at 630 nm is used for excitation and fluorescence light in the wavelength region 660 to 740 nm is detected. A compact photomultiplier tube is used for fast detection with a high SNR. The measuring spot is 90 mum in diameter. All optical and electronics components are housed in a small 250X140X90 mm(3) box. Because the system can make up to 1.2 million measurements/s the distance between adjacent measuring points can be as short as about 20 mum, even at a paper speed of 25 m/s, as is common with a modern newsprint paper machine. The recording system can store data continuously for 45 min at this sampling rate and data from three more sensors can be recorded simultaneously with the same resolution. This high-capacity sensor system can monitor the behavior of a paper machine at much higher time and space resolution than has traditionally been possible. From test runs on four different newsprint paper machines we observed the existence of small spots of high fluorescence in the paper from one machine, characteristic behavior with a significantly lower level of fluorescence in periodical sections of about 200 m in another machine, and that wire marks and periodical patterns could be very well identified from the fluorescence recordings. Such data have proven to contain important information for the papermaker concerning, for example the relative shrinkage of the paper web in the drying section of the paper machine. © 2001 Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers.

  • Trepartssamtal med digitala observationsunderlag – en framgångsfaktor för lärarstudenters deltagande och resonemang
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Nordvei: Nordisk tidsskrift i veiledningspedagogikk. - Bergen : University of Bergen. - 2535-3047. ; 8:1, s. 1-15
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
