  • Electronic spectra of ArXe molecules in the region of Xe* (5d, 7s, 7p, 6p '), 80 300-89 500 cm(-1), using resonantly enhanced multiphoton ionization
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Journal of Physics B. - : IOP Publishing. - 0953-4075 .- 1361-6455. ; 43:23, s. 235101-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The electronic spectra of ArXe molecules in the 80 300-89 500 cm(-1) region were recorded by (2 + n) and (3 + n) REMPI methods. The vibrational progressions attributed to transitions of molecules from the ground state to the bounded excited state and wide unstructured bands related to transitions to the continuous upper state were obtained. The molecular constants of ArXe* were calculated for all the observed progressions in the 80 300-87 000 cm(-1) region as an approximation of an anharmonic oscillator and the Morse potential. For different excited states the energy of harmonic oscillator and the dissociation energy are changed from 10 to 100 cm(-1) and from 70 to 750 cm(-1), respectively.

  • Electronic spectra of ArXe molecules in the region of Xe* (6s ', 6p, 5d), 77 000-80 200 cm(-1), using resonantly enhanced multiphoton ionization
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Journal of Physics B. - : IOP Publishing. - 0953-4075 .- 1361-6455. ; 43:15, s. 155101-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The excited electronic states of ArXe molecules in the region 77 000-80 200 cm(-1) were studied using the (2+1) and (3+1) resonance-enhanced multiphoton ionization methods. The use of different methods of multi-photon excitation and Ar+ ion registration allowed us to obtain some new data. Molecular constants were obtained for previously unknown excited states of molecules with the following dissociation limits: ArXe* -> (ArS0)-S-1+Xe*6p[5/2](3) with Omega = 2, 3 symmetry; (ArS0)-S-1+Xe*6p[3/2](2) with Omega = 1, 2 symmetry; (XeS1)-S-0 -> Xe*6s'[1/2](1)(0) with Omega = 0(+) symmetry.

  • Ingår i: Optics and Spectroscopy. - 0030-400X .- 1562-6911. ; 108:6, s. 899-914
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The electronic spectra of XeNe molecules in the range of 77100-90100 cm(-1) are measured by the method of laser resonance multiphoton ionization in a supersonic jet. The photoionization spectra are obtained upon two- and three-photon excitations of molecules and their ionization by the next photon. In the range of 80300-90100 cm(-1) near Xe*(5d, 6p', 6d, 7s, and 7p), the spectra are obtained for the first time. A whole number of vibrational systems are measured in this range. The majority of vibrational systems near Xe* (5d, 6d, 7p, and 7s) are located in the red range with respect to their dissociation limits. In the blue range with respect to the dissociation limits, continua corresponding to transitions of molecules from the ground state to repulsive potential curves of excited states are detected. For a number of excited states of XeNe molecules, the vibrational analysis is performed and molecular constants are estimated.

  • Advances in understanding the podzolization process resulting from a multidisciplinary study of three coniferous forest soils in the Nordic Countries
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Geoderma. - 0016-7061 .- 1872-6259. ; 94:04-feb, s. 335-353
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Geochemical, mineralogical, micromorphological, microbiological, hydrochemical and hpdrological joint investigations were performed at two coniferous podzolic sites in the north of Sweden and at one in the south of Finland. Mycorrhizal fungi were found to create numerous pens (3-10-mu m diameter) in many weatherable mineral grains in the eluvial (E) horizon. During the growing season, identified low molecular weight (LMW) organic acids such as citric, shikimic, oxalic and fumaric acids comprised 0.5-5% of the DOC and 0.5-15% of the total acidity in soil solutions. Between 20% and 40% of the dissolved Al was bound to the identified LMW organic acids. Mineral dissolution via complexing LMW acids, probably exuded in part by the mycorrhiza hyphae, is likely to be a major weathering process in podzols. We found no evidence for a decreasing C/metal ratio of the migrating organo-metal complexes that could explain the precipitation of secondary Fe and AL in the illuvial (B) horizon. Instead, microbial degradation of organic ligands resulting in the release of ionic,Al and Fe to the soil solution may he an important process facilitating the formation of solid Al-SI-OH and Fe-OH phases in the podzol B horizon. However, within the B horizon transport as proto-imogilite (PI) sols might be possible. In the B horizon, the extractable,Al and Fe was predominantly inorganic. The large specific surface area (SSA) removable by oxalate extraction, the high point of zero charge salt effect (PZSE), the low cation exchange capacity (CEC) and the high sulphate exchange capacity (SEC), painted to the presence of short-range ordered variable charge phases. Imogolite type material (ITM) was indeed identified in all B horizons by IR spectroscopy and crystalline imogolite was found in the deep B horizon of one profile. Mossbauer spectroscopy indicated that Fe in the form of ferrihydrite was formed by intergrowth with an Al-Si-OH phase. The high amounts of Fe and Al transported from the O to the E horizon indicate that there could be an upward transport of these elements before they are leached to the B horizon. We hypothesize that the LMW Al complexes an transported by hyphae to the mor (O) layer, partly released and subsequently complexed by high molecular weight (HMW) acids.

  • Electronic structure and x-ray spectra of defective oxides LixCoO2
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Physical Review B. Condensed Matter and Materials Physics. - 1098-0121 .- 1550-235X. ; 74:4, s. 045120-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • X-ray absorption, resonant x-ray emission, and x-ray photoelectron spectra of the valence band and core levels have been measured for LixCoO2 (0.6 <= x <= 1.0). Resonant O K alpha x-ray emission spectra of LiCoO2 showed localized excitonic states due to a dd transition between unoccupied and occupied Co 3d states. On the basis of measurements of Co 3s x-ray photoelectron and Co 2p and O 1s x-ray absorption spectra it was established that in defective cobaltites the electronic holes are localized mainly in O 2p states. Evidence of phase separation in LixCoO2 has been found.

  • Regulation of cellular contractile force, shape and migration of fibroblasts by oncogenes and Histone deacetylase 6
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Frontiers in Molecular Biosciences. - : Frontiers Media SA. - 2296-889X. ; 10
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The capacity of cells to adhere to, exert forces upon and migrate through their surrounding environment governs tissue regeneration and cancer metastasis. The role of the physical contractile forces that cells exert in this process, and the underlying molecular mechanisms are not fully understood. We, therefore, aimed to clarify if the extracellular forces that cells exert on their environment and/or the intracellular forces that deform the cell nucleus, and the link between these forces, are defective in transformed and invasive fibroblasts, and to indicate the underlying molecular mechanism of control. Confocal, Epifluorescence and Traction force microscopy, followed by computational analysis, showed an increased maximum contractile force that cells apply on their environment and a decreased intracellular force on the cell nucleus in the invasive fibroblasts, as compared to normal control cells. Loss of HDAC6 activity by tubacin-treatment and siRNA-mediated HDAC6 knockdown also reversed the reduced size and more circular shape and defective migration of the transformed and invasive cells to normal. However, only tubacin-mediated, and not siRNA knockdown reversed the increased force of the invasive cells on their surrounding environment to normal, with no effects on nuclear forces. We observed that the forces on the environment and the nucleus were weakly positively correlated, with the exception of HDAC6 siRNA-treated cells, in which the correlation was weakly negative. The transformed and invasive fibroblasts showed an increased number and smaller cell-matrix adhesions than control, and neither tubacin-treatment, nor HDAC6 knockdown reversed this phenotype to normal, but instead increased it further. This highlights the possibility that the control of contractile force requires separate functions of HDAC6, than the control of cell adhesions, spreading and shape. These data are consistent with the possibility that defective force-transduction from the extracellular environment to the nucleus contributes to metastasis, via a mechanism that depends upon HDAC6. To our knowledge, our findings present the first correlation between the cellular forces that deforms the surrounding environment and the nucleus in fibroblasts, and it expands our understanding of how cells generate contractile forces that contribute to cell invasion and metastasis. • Stimulated X-Ray Raman Scattering with Free-Electron Laser Sources
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: X-Ray Lasers 2014. - Cham : Springer. - 0930-8989. - 9783319195216 - 9783319195209 ; , s. 201-207
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Stimulated electronic x-ray Raman scattering is the building block for several proposed x-ray pump probe techniques, that would allow the study of electron dynamics at unprecedented timescales. We present high spectral resolution data on stimulated electronic x-ray Raman scattering in a gas sample of neon using a self-amplified spontaneous emission x-ray free-electron laser. Despite the limited spectral coherence and broad bandwidth of these sources, high-resolution spectra can be obtained by statistical methods, opening the path to coherent stimulated x-ray Raman spectroscopy. An extension of these ideas to molecules and the results of a recent experiment in CO are discussed.

  • Wildfires in northern Eurasia affect the budget of black carbon in the Arctic - a 12-year retrospective synopsis (2002-2013)
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Atmospheric Chemistry And Physics. - : Copernicus GmbH. - 1680-7316 .- 1680-7324. ; 16:12, s. 7587-7604
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In recent decades much attention has been given to the Arctic environment, where climate change is happening rapidly. Black carbon (BC) has been shown to be a major component of Arctic pollution that also affects the radiative balance. In the present study, we focused on how vegetation fires that occurred in northern Eurasia during the period of 2002-2013 influenced the budget of BC in the Arctic. For simulating the transport of fire emissions from northern Eurasia to the Arctic, we adopted BC fire emission estimates developed independently by GFED3 (Global Fire Emissions Database) and FEI-NE (Fire Emission Inventory - northern Eurasia). Both datasets were based on fire locations and burned areas detected by MODIS (Moderate resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) instruments on NASA's (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) Terra and Aqua satellites. Anthropogenic sources of BC were adopted from the MACCity (Monitoring Atmospheric Composition and Climate and megacity Zoom for the Environment) emission inventory. During the 12-year period, an average area of 250aEuro-000aEuro-km(2)aEuro-yr(-1) was burned in northern Eurasia (FEI-NE) and the global emissions of BC ranged between 8.0 and 9.5aEuro-TgaEuro-yr(-1) (FEI-NE+MACCity). For the BC emitted in the Northern Hemisphere (based on FEI-NE+MACCity), about 70aEuro-% originated from anthropogenic sources and the rest from biomass burning (BB). Using the FEI-NE+MACCity inventory, we found that 102aEuro-+/- aEuro-29aEuro-ktaEuro-yr(-1) BC was deposited in the Arctic (defined here as the area north of 67A degrees aEuro-N) during the 12 years simulated, which was twice as much as when using the MACCity inventory (56aEuro-+/- aEuro-8aEuro-ktaEuro-yr(-1)). The annual mass of BC deposited in the Arctic from all sources (FEI-NE in northern Eurasia, MACCity elsewhere) is significantly higher by about 37aEuro-% in 2009 (78 vs. 57aEuro-ktaEuro-yr(-1)) to 181aEuro-% in 2012 (153 vs. 54aEuro-ktaEuro-yr(-1)), compared to the BC deposited using just the MACCity emission inventory. Deposition of BC in the Arctic from BB sources in the Northern Hemisphere thus represents 68aEuro-% of the BC deposited from all BC sources (the remaining being due to anthropogenic sources). Northern Eurasian vegetation fires (FEI-NE) contributed 85aEuro-% (79-91aEuro-%) to the BC deposited over the Arctic from all BB sources in the Northern Hemisphere. We estimate that about 46aEuro-% of the BC deposited over the Arctic from vegetation fires in northern Eurasia originated from Siberia, 6aEuro-% from Kazakhstan, 5aEuro-% from Europe, and about 1aEuro-% from Mongolia. The remaining 42aEuro-% originated from other areas in northern Eurasia. About 42aEuro-% of the BC released from northern Eurasian vegetation fires was deposited over the Arctic (annual average: 17aEuro-%) during spring and summer.

  • Low energy electronic spectroscopy of an infinite-layer cuprate : A resonant inelastic X-ray scattering study of CaCuO2
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Physica. C, Superconductivity. - : Elsevier BV. - 0921-4534 .- 1873-2143. ; 470:3, s. 187-192
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report the results of Oxygen K-edge soft X-ray absorption and emission spectroscopy that was performed on an infinite-layer insulating cuprate thin film CaCuO2 Experimentally obtained spectra arc consistent with local density approximation calculations X-ray absorption spectra show a close resemblance to spectra obtained from homologous single crystal cuprates In addition to d-d excitations. X-ray emission spectra reveal the presence of Zhang-Rice singlet states in the infinite-layer CuO2 planes The question of whether the Zhang-Rice singlet features are masked by the O 2p main-band is addressed. it is possible to quantify the position of the Zhang-Rice singlet using emission intensity profiles X-ray emission is demonstrated as a tool for understanding CuO2 planar electronic correlation in the prototypical infinite-layer The energy difference, 2 0 eV, between the oxygen main-band and the Zhang-Rice singlet band is found to match values obtained theoretically using established planar electronic correlation parameters.
