  • Refinement of the MHC risk map in a scandinavian primary sclerosing cholangitis population
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: PLoS ONE. - : Public Library of Science (PLoS). - 1932-6203. ; 9:12
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Genetic variants within the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) represent the strongest genetic susceptibility factors for primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC). Identifying the causal variants within this genetic complex represents a major challenge due to strong linkage disequilibrium and an overall high physical density of candidate variants. We aimed to refine the MHC association in a geographically restricted PSC patient panel.

  • Effective particle magnetic moment of multi-core particles
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials. - : Elsevier BV. - 0304-8853 .- 1873-4766. ; 380, s. 221-226
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this study we investigate the magnetic behavior of magnetic multi-core particles and the differences in the magnetic properties of multi-core and single-core nanoparticles and correlate the results with the nanostructure of the different particles as determined from transmission electron microscopy (TEM). We also investigate how the effective particle magnetic moment is coupled to the individual moments of the single-domain nanocrystals by using different measurement techniques: DC magnetometry, AC susceptometry, dynamic light scattering and TEM. We have studied two magnetic multi-core particle systems BNF Starch from Micromod with a median particle diameter of 100 am and FeraSpin R from nanoPET with a median particle diameter of 70 nm - and one single-core particle system - SHP25 from Ocean NanoTech with a median particle core diameter of 25 nm. • Experimental demonstration of RF-pilot-based phase noise mitigation for millimeter-wave systems
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: IEEE Vehicular Technology Conference. - 1550-2252. - 9781479944491 ; , s. Art. no. 6965978-
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Millimeter-wave bands are gaining popularity for high data rate wireless communication systems due to the wide available bandwidth. However, oscillator phase noise also increases as the carrier frequency increases. Methods of phase noise mitigation are therefore crucial for future millimeter-wave systems. In this work, we propose to adopt analog phase noise mitigation using an RF-pilot tone, which reduces both phase and frequency impairments of an arbitrary millimeter-wave signal at the expense of reduced spectral efficiency. The method is verified experimentally at carrier frequency of 28 GHz and E-band 73 GHz showing a 20 dB noise reduction up to 100 kHz offset. Since the method relaxes phase noise requirement it is attractive for phase noise sensitive technologies at high carrier frequency, such as OFDM used in LTE. As indicated by the simulation results, the reduced phase noise enables a LTE signal on a millimeter-wave carrier with marginal performance impact.

  • Epitaxial Pb on InAs nanowires for quantum devices
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Nature Nanotechnology. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1748-3387 .- 1748-3395. ; 16:7, s. 776-781
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Semiconductor-superconductor hybrids are used for realizing complex quantum phenomena but are limited in the accessible magnetic field and temperature range. Now, hybrid devices made from InAs nanowires and epitaxially matched, single-crystal, atomically flat Pb films present superior characteristics, doubling the available parameter space. Semiconductor-superconductor hybrids are widely used to realize complex quantum phenomena, such as topological superconductivity and spins coupled to Cooper pairs. Accessing new, exotic regimes at high magnetic fields and increasing operating temperatures beyond the state-of-the-art requires new, epitaxially matched semiconductor-superconductor materials. One challenge is the generation of favourable conditions for heterostructural formation between materials with the desired properties. Here we harness an increased knowledge of metal-on-semiconductor growth to develop InAs nanowires with epitaxially matched, single-crystal, atomically flat Pb films with no axial grain boundaries. These highly ordered heterostructures have a critical temperature of 7 K and a superconducting gap of 1.25 meV, which remains hard at 8.5 T, and therefore they offer a parameter space more than twice as large as those of alternative semiconductor-superconductor hybrids. Additionally, InAs/Pb island devices exhibit magnetic field-driven transitions from a Cooper pair to single-electron charging, a prerequisite for use in topological quantum computation. Semiconductor-Pb hybrids potentially enable access to entirely new regimes for a number of different quantum systems.

  • Development of a unified design buckling curve for fibre reinforced polymer plates subjected to in-plane uniaxial and uniform compression
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Thin-Walled Structures. - : Elsevier BV. - 0263-8231. ; 183
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Presented are 24 non-dimensional buckling curves to estimate the strengths of Fibre-Reinforced Polymer (FRP) square plates having four simply supported edges and subjected to in-plane uniaxial and uniform in-plane compression. The curves are constructed by the authors from a parametric numerical analysis using ABAQUS® software with changing variables for: material properties; initial geometrical imperfections; laminate lay-ups; and plate thicknesses. These strength curves express relationships for the buckling reduction factor with plate slenderness, and account for post-buckling strength. We observe that regardless of the laminate lay-up (except for purely unidirectional), the choice of FRP material and the magnitude of the initial geometrical imperfection the predicted buckling reduction factors display a meaningful correlation with plate slenderness. Presented is a proposed unified buckling design curve, defined as the lower bound to 18 of the 24 ABAQUS®-generated buckling curves. This new curve is benchmarked by the authors against experimental test results extracted from the literature and it is found that there is a reasonable agreement. The authors recommend that the proposed buckling design curve has the potential to be introduced into structural design standards as a procedure to design the buckling strengths of FRP plates.
