- Background: Improving relationship dynamics positively impacts both partners’ health among couples. However, few studies have investigated sexual and gender minority (SGM) couples’ relationship goals and their experiences toward achieving them.Purpose: The present study investigated SGM couples’ experiences that centered on them working toward or maintaining their relationship goals over time.Method: From a cohort study with SGM couples, a purposive sample of 40 couples was selected and interviewed over Zoom. Interviews were individual-level, semi-structured, and recorded. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the transcripts.Results: Approximately half of the 40 couples identified as gay male couples, a third as lesbian couples, and about one-fifth as queer or gender minority couples. Top three reported relationship goals were 1) improving communication, 2) working on finances, and 3) enhancing intimacy. Feeling emotionally connected, career-related decisions, and improving sexual satisfaction were other commonly reported goals. Overall, most partners felt they made progress toward at least 1 of their 3 relationship goals within the prior 6 months. However, perceived relationship goal progress varied extensively between partners across couple groups. Facilitator-related themes about relationship goal progress included dyadic efforts, having a support system including professional help, and planning. Barrier-related themes included nonexistent or minimal effort, different communication styles, employment and economical struggles, and competing life and health priorities.Conclusion(s): Dyadic efforts and support systems were key toward someone working toward or maintaining their relationships goals. Findings suggest key relationship functioning areas to target in a future multiple health behavior change intervention for SGM couples.

Customer Feedback and Data Collection Techniques : A Systematic Literature Review on the Role and Impact of Feedback in Software Product Development

- Background: Customer feedback is critical for successful product development. Software companies continuously collect it in order to become more data-driven. By understanding how these feedback data are collected, companies’ ability to accumulate and synthesize the learnings, and correctly prioritize product development decisions increases. Objective: The purpose of this study is to (1) provide an overview of the sources and feedback collection techniques, (2) demonstrate the impact that customer and product data have on product development, and (3) provide the open research challenges on this topic. Method: We performed a systematic literature review of customer feedback and data collection techniques, analyzing 71 papers on the subject taken from a gross collection of 1298. Results: We (1) identify the different customer feedback techniques and sources where these data originate and summarize them in the “Customer Feedback Model”. Next, we show the (2) impact that the customer feedback has on the overall development process. Finally, we (3) conclude with future research challenges. Conclusions: Our research reveals a compelling set of feedback data collection techniques that can be used throughout the development stages of software products. The identified challenges, however, indicate that the use of feedback today is fragmented and with limited tool support.

- The rapid pace with which software needs to be built, together with the increasing need to evaluate changes for end users both quantitatively and qualitatively calls for novel software engineering approaches that focus on short release cycles, continuous deployment and delivery, experiment-driven feature development, feedback from users, and rapid tool-assisted feedback to developers. To realize these approaches there is a need for research and innovation with respect to automation and tooling, and furthermore for research into the organizational changes that support flexible data-driven decision-making in the development lifecycle. Most importantly, deep synergies are needed between software engineers, managers, and data scientists. This paper reports on the results of the joint 5th International Workshop on Rapid Continuous Software Engineering (RCoSE 2019) and the 1st International Workshop on Data-Driven Decisions, Experimentation and Evolution (DDrEE 2019), which focuses on the challenges and potential solutions in the area of continuous data-driven software engineering.

Trabecular pattern in intraoral radiographs as a sign of osteoporosis : the OSTEODENT study

- Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate if the trabecular pattern in intraoral radiographs, assessed by five observers, could serve as an indicator of osteoporosis. Methods: Six hundred and seventy one women (45 - 70 yrs) from four European centers were included in the study and examined with intraoral radiographs in the right upper and lower premolar region. The patients also underwent examinations with central dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) of the hip and lumbar spine. Five observers assessed the trabecular pattern in the intraoral radiographs into one of three classes: dense, heterogeneous or sparse trabecular pattern. The assessments were made with the aid of reference images and the observers underwent a calibration procedure before starting their assessments. The classifications were compared with the true diagnosis of osteoporosis measured using DXA. Results: The sensitivity and specificity for five observers’ assessments of the intraoral radiographs with sparse trabecular pattern as indicative of osteoporosis at either hip or spine are given in the table below. The values are calculated for patients diagnosed as having osteoporosis at any of the examined sites. Conclusion: Assessment of sparse trabecular pattern on intraoral radiographs offered a combination of low sensitivity but high specificity for osteoporosis diagnosis. If it is assumed that high specificity is preferred for osteoporosis assessment by dentists, then this method may have potential for clinical use, although inter-observer variability may be a problem. The effects of a cancer diagnosis on the health of a patient's partner : a population-based registry study of cancer in Sweden

- The aim of this population-based registry study was to explore how cancer influences the health of partners, by examining the onset of new diagnoses for partners, health care use and health care costs among partners living with patients with cancer. The sample consisted of partners of patients with cancer (N = 10 353) and partners of age- and sex-matched controls who did not have cancer (N = 74 592). Diagnoses, health care use and health care costs were studied for a continuous period starting 1 year before the date of cancer diagnosis and continued for 3 years. One year after cancer diagnosis, partners of patients with cancer had significantly more mood disorders, reactions to severe stress and ischaemic heart disease than they exhibited in the year before the diagnosis. Among partners of patients with cancer, the type of cancer was associated with the extent and form of increased health care use and costs; both health care use and costs increased among partners of patients with liver cancer, lung cancer, colon cancer and miscellaneous other cancers. The risk of poorer health varied according to the type of cancer diagnosed, and appeared related to the severity and prognosis of that diagnosis.

- For decades, product data has been collected and used for quality assurance, for post-deployment defect detection and for informing the next generation of products. Across industry domains, and with the online domain leading the way, companies have adopted experimentation and data driven practices such as A/B testing to evaluate product performance, customer behaviors and for determining what adds value to customers. However, with the rapid changes that new digital technologies bring, companies are moving towards continuous value delivery and monetization models in which they offer their products as-a-service or offer services to complement and extend their existing products. In this transition, the traditional way of post-deployment data collection and use is no longer sufficient. While companies realize this, they experience difficulties in making the changes they need to transition towards continuous practices and new ways of working with data. As a result, companies risk wasting development efforts on functionality that have little or no customer value and they lose out on the competitive advantages that come with insights derived from continuous collection and use of data. In this paper, we explore the challenges companies experience in the transition from traditional towards continuous practices and the implications this shift has on their ways of working with data.

- Internet of Things (IoT) can work as a useful tool for clinical research. We developed a software platform that allows researchers to publish clinical studies and volunteers to participate into them using an app and connected IoT devices. The platform includes a REST API, a web interface for researchers and an app that collects data during tasks volunteers are invited to contribute. Nine tasks have been developed: Forms, Positioning, Finger tapping, Pulse-oximetry, Peak Flow measurement, Activity tracking, Data query, Queen’s College step test and Six-minute walk test. These leverage sensors embedded in the phone, connected Bluetooth devices and additional APIs like HealthKit and Google Fit. Currently, the platform is used in two clinical studies by 25 patients: an asthma management study in the United Kingdom, and a neuropathic pain management study in Spain.

- This book explores and critiques topical debates in educational sciences, philosophy, social work and cognitive neuroscience. It examines constructions of children, parents and the welfare state in relation to neurosciences and its vocabulary of brain architecture, critical periods and toxic stress. The authors provide insight into the historical roots of the relationship between early childhood education policy and practice and sciences. The book argues that the neurophilia in the early childhood education field is not a coincidence, but relates to larger societal changes that value economic arguments over ethical, social and eminently pedagogical concerns. It affects the image of the child, the parent and the very meaning of education in general. Constructions of Neuroscience in Early Childhood Education discusses what neuroscience has to offer, what its limitations are, and how to gain a more nuanced view on its benefits and challenges.
