  • Filter structure for iterative signal processing
  • 2002
  • Patent (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • The present invention relates to improved multiple access communications. In one form, the invention relates to an improved signal processing method and apparatus for an iterative method of determining the reception of a signal in a multi user packet based wireless OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) communication system. In other forms the present invention provides recursive filtering for joint iterative decoding in a variety of systems and functions such as linear multiple access channel decoders, iterative equalisation, iterative joint channel estimation and detection/decoding, iterative space-time processing, iterative multi user interference cancellation and iterative demodulation.; In one particular form the present invention provides an iterative decoding circuit for a wireless multiuser communications receiver comprising a first signal processing means for receiving at least one received signal, said first signal processing means comprising at least two linear iterative filters such that the first linear iterative filter provides an estimate of a selected received signal to an estimated signal output and a second linear iterative filter provides estimates of at least one other received signal, delayed by one iteration cycle, to an input of said first linear iterative filter, a second signal processing means for receiving the estimated signal output of the first linear iterative filter and providing a further received signal estimate to the input of the first signal processing means in a succeeding iteration cycle of the decoding circuit.

  • Filter structure for iterative signal processing
  • 2002
  • Patent (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • The invention is an iterative signal processing arrangement having one or more pairs of first and second signal processing components. These pairs are in iterative configuration with each of the first signal processing components having as its input one or more received signals dependent upon one or more transmitted signals. For each said signal processing component pair the output of said first signal processing component is an estimate of a characteristic of a selected transmitted signal based on the current and one or more previous input signals received by said first signal processing component. This estimate is input to said corresponding second signal processing component which provides a further estimate of said selected transmitted signal. The outputs of all said second components of respective pairs are input to their corresponding first components in a succeeding iteration cycle.

  • Method for fractionating an aqueous paper fibre suspension and hydrocyclone for carrying out said method
  • 2008
  • Patent (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • The invention relates to a method and to a device which is used to fraction aqueous paper fibre suspensions (S). Relatively large centrifugal forces are used, also in suspension components having essentially the same densities, in order to achieve good results. This is achieved by virtue of the fact that the paper fibre suspension (S) entering via the inlet (10) is guided initially in a first annular chamber (4) which narrows in an axial direction (4) and subsequently in a second annular chamber (5) which widens in an axial direction. As a result, good fractionating results can be obtained, in particular, when the fibre material consistency in the inlet area is approximately 0.5 - 2 % and also the necessary mass fluxes are maintained at a relatively low level. Said method can be used, for example, for fractionating fresh cellulose and/or wood pulp. It can also be used in the preparation of used paper, wherein said method is particularly economical.

  • What 21st-Century Works Will Merit a Close Reading in 2050? : Second Tranche of Responses
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Econ Journal Watch. - : Econ Journal Watch. - 1933-527X. ; 18:1, s. 164-191
  • Tidskriftsartikel (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • Adam Smith applied the expression “never to be forgotten” to two thinkers he knew personally, born more than 300 years ago, and those two thinkers are not yet forgotten. We undertook the present query in 2020, looking a mere 30 years ahead. What 21st-century works will merit a close reading in 2050? That is the question asked of Econ Journal Watch authors (specifically: those who authored material in sections other than the Comments section of the journal). The previous issue of this journal provided responses from authors with last names beginning A through K (link). Here we present nineteen responses from authors L through Z.

  • New Abundances for Old Stars – Atomic Diffusion at Work in NGC 6397
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: The Messenger. - 0722-6691. ; 125, s. 6-10
  • Forskningsöversikt (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • A homogeneous spectroscopic analysis of unevolved and evolved stars in the metal-poor globular cluster NGC 6397 with FLAMES-UVES reveals systematic trends of stellar surface abundances that are likely caused by atomic diffu-sion. This finding helps to understand, among other issues, why the lithium abundances of old halo stars are sig-nificantly lower than the abundance found to be produced shortly after the Big Bang.

  • The Patient Enablement Instrument for Back Pain : Reliability, Content Validity, Construct Validity and Responsiveness
  • 2020
  • Annan publikation (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • BackgroundCurrently, there are no outcome measures assessing the ability of people with non-specific low back pain to self-manage their illness. Inspired by the ‘Patient Enablement Instrument’, we developed the Patient Enablement Instrument for Back Pain (PEI-BP). The aim of this study was to describe the development of the Patient Enablement Instrument for Back Pain (PEI-BP) and investigate content validity, construct validity, internal consistency, test-retest reliability, measurement error, responsiveness and floor and ceiling effects.MethodsThe PEI-BP consists of 6 items that are rated on a 0-10 Numeric Rating Scale. Measurement properties were evaluated using the COSMIN taxonomy and were based on three cohorts from primary care with low back pain: The content validity cohort (N=14) which participated in semi-structured interviews, the GLA:D Back cohort (N=272) and the test-retest cohort (N=37) which both completed self-reported questionnaires. For construct validity and responsiveness, enablement was compared to disability (Oswestry Disability Index), back pain beliefs (Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire), fear avoidance (Fear-Avoidance Beliefs Questionnaire – physical activity), mental health (SF-36), educational level and number of previous episodes of low back pain.ResultsThe PEI-BP was found to have acceptable content validity, construct validity, reliability (internal consistency, test-retest reliability and measurement error) and responsiveness. The Smallest Detectable Change was 10.1 points illustrating that a patient would have to change more than 1/6 of the scale range for it to be a true change. A skewed distribution towards the high scores were found at baseline indicating a potentially problematic ceiling effect in the current population.ConclusionsThe PEI-BP can be considered a valid and reliable tool to measure enablement on people seeking care for non-specific LBP. Further testing of the PEI-BP in populations with more severe LBP is recommended.
