  • Photoluminescence photoresponse from InSb/InAs-based quantum dot structures
  • 2012
  • In: Optics Express. - : Optical Society of America. - 1094-4087. ; 20:19, s. 21264-71
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • InSb-based quantum dots grown by metal-organic vapor-phase epitaxy (MOVPE) on InAs substrates are studied for use as the active material in interband photon detectors. Long-wavelength infrared (LWIR) photoluminescence is demonstrated with peak emission at 8.5 μm and photoresponse, interpreted to originate from type-II interband transitions in a p-i-n photodiode, was measured up to 6 μm, both at 80 K. The possibilities and benefits of operation in the LWIR range (8-12 μm) are discussed and the results suggest that InSb-based quantum dot structures can be suitable candidates for photon detection in the LWIR regime.

  • Improving school functioning – the inschool and out of school blend – the Sri Lankan effort
  • 2011
  • Doctoral thesis (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • Sri Lanka’s past, present and future efforts to improve the provision of education are in focus. Decentralization of education is reviewed. Since 1960s when decentralization in education management was initiated schools have been subjected to multiple control by the such layers of management as the provincial ministry, provincial department, zonal office and the division. To reduce role ambiguity clarity in division of roles and functions is needed as well as collaboration among the different layers.  Historical and recent reasons that hinder decentralisation and school autonomy are reviewed. Structural and cultural changes that facilitate the democratisation of school management are proposed. The newest trend in educational decentralisation in the country the Programme on School Improvement (PSI) is a kind of school based management. In PSI, schools are given a degree of autonomy in the areas of planning, teaching-learning process, co-curricular activities, staff development and the maintenance and development of the school plant. PSI enables schools to forge links with local communities through the establishment of a School Development Committees to improve resource mobilization and public accountability, thus creating better learning cultures in schools. The role and functions of the zonal education office are examined. The role of the zone is proposed to provide strategic guidance to the schools and effectively monitor overall performance. The zones have to work with schools and not on schools. The role and the main challenges of the school leaders in the proposed decentralized set-up are also examined and the need for more collaborative partnerships within the school is emphasized. The research further examines the factors that contribute to the institutionalisation of the new organizational innovation and as to how the capacity building institutes can help in transforming the roles of the zonal staff and school leaders.

  • Jakten på källan, eller, Organisationsförändring och dödens oundviklighet
  • 2020
  • In: Arbetsmarknad & Arbetsliv. - Karlstad : Karlstads universitet. - 1400-9692 .- 2002-343X. ; 26:3, s. 6-25-
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract

  • Book chapter (other academic/artistic)abstract

  • The Construction of Support and Opposition : A Study of an Attempted Higher Education Merger
  • 2015
  • Doctoral thesis (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • This study focuses on support and opposition in an attempted merger between three Norwegian university colleges.  The university colleges that took part in the merger process were Buskerud University College, Vestfold University College and Østfold University College, all three located in the south-east part of Norway. The study takes its point of departure in the fact that the merger process was terminated before a decision to merge was reached. It aims to describe the two discourses of support and opposition, and explain change in discursive practices from support to opposition. The thesis is divided into three parts. In the first part the conceptual framework used in the analysis is presented, as well as the area of mergers in higher education and methodological aspects.  Four conceptual pairs are used to analyse the merger process; support/opposition, idea/operationalisation, outwards/inwards and modern/traditional. The second part is constructed as a play with acts presenting the merger process in a chronological order where the conceptual pairs are used to describe and explain discursive practices. The third and final part focuses on general insights into the construction of support and opposition in the terminated merger process. The study shows that the use of different discursive practices evolved into antagonism between the three university colleges leading to the termination of the merger process. Supporting the idea to merge in order to achieve university status was not enough to support the merger if the operationalisation of how the merger process was to be conducted, and how the merged organisation was to be constructed led to a disadvantageous power position.  In addition, discursive practices of support and opposition were conditioned by discourses of the education market and academic drift.

  • The Pursuit of the Source, or The Inevitability of Death
  • 2020
  • In: Nordic Journal of Working Life Studies. - : Roskilde Universitetsforlag. - 2245-0157. ; 10:4, s. 103-120
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The purpose of this article is to apply the method of the genre of studying chains of references to an instance of a secondary source of the contested concept of 'resistance to change' back to the primary source and thereby exercise criticism of the sources. This includes discussing whether the theory itself is empirically sustainable or sufficiently scientifically grounded. In the article, we adopt a theoretical lens of Critical Realist Discourse Analysis, mainly because it is sensitive to the importance of the influence of nondiscursive social positions on discourses. The primary source of the chain of theories of resistance to change turns out to be Kibler-Ross's model of stages of dying patients' reactions to their immanent death. We find that the model is systematically misinterpreted to fit the empirically false idea of resistance to change of the ideological discourses of management research.
