• High critical temperature superconductor Josephson junctions for quantum circuit applications
• 2009
• Ingår i: Physica Scripta. ; T137, s. 014006-
• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
• Recent findings of macroscopic quantum properties in high critical temperature superconductor (HTS) Josephson junctions (JJs) point toward the need to revise the role of zero energy quasi-particles in this novel superconductor. We will discuss the possibility of designing superconducting artificial atoms in a transmon configuration to study the low energy excitation spectra of HTS. We have engineered high quality grain boundary JJs on low dielectric constant substrates. By fabricating submicron junctions, we extract values of capacitance and Josephson critical current densities that satisfy the main transmon design requirements. Moreover, the measured critical current noise power extrapolated at 1 Hz gives a dephasing time of 25 ns, which indicates that the observation of macroscopic quantum coherent effects in HTS JJ is a feasible task.

• Atomic structure of functional interfaces in Sr2RuO4/Sr3Ru2O7 eutectic crystals
• 2009
• Ingår i: Applied Physics Letters. - : AIP Publishing. - 0003-6951 .- 1077-3118. ; 95:14, s. 142507 (artno)-
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• Sr2RuO4/Sr3Ru2O7 eutectic system is investigated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and high angle annular dark field scanning TEM (STEM). The Sr2RuO4/Sr3Ru2O7 lamellar structure allows studying tunneling and proximity effects between spin-triplet superconductor Sr2RuO4 and metamagnetic normal metal Sr3Ru2O7. Our analyses reveal two typologies of interfaces within the eutectic: interfaces parallel to the growth direction are sharp and defect-free whereas interfaces perpendicular to the growth direction appear wavy and decorated with Ru precipitates. These results indicate that interfaces parallel to the growth direction are the best candidates for Sr2RuO4/Sr3Ru2O7 natural junctions to study the unusual superconductivity of Sr2RuO4. • Electron backscattering diffraction and X-ray diffraction studies of interface relationships in Sr3Ru2O7/Sr2RuO4 eutectic crystals
• 2011
• Ingår i: Micron. - : Elsevier BV. - 0968-4328. ; 42:4, s. 324-329
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• Sr3Ru2O7/Sr2RuO4 eutectic system is investigated by electron backscattering diffraction (EBSD) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The eutectic growth enables the solidification of the two phases in an ordered lamellar pattern extending along the growth direction, namely the b-axis direction. The eutectic material thus provides in the a-c plane two distinct interfaces having different microstructures with respect to the growth direction. Our analysis shows that, across the inplane c-axis direction (characterized by a poor lattice matching), the b-axis orientation is not constant at the individual interfaces, showing an orientation spread of about 5 degrees. However, across the in-plane a-axis direction (characterized by a good lattice matching), the b-axis orientation does not change within a few tenths of degree (about 0.25 degrees). Such information at nanoscale is also verified on a macroscopic level by standard XRD investigation.

• Toward intrinsic functionalities of bilayered ruthenate Sr3Ru2O7
• 2009
• Ingår i: Physical Review B - Condensed Matter and Materials Physics. - 2469-9950 .- 2469-9969. ; 80:5, s. 054110 (artno)-
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• Polymorphic materials are known for being prone to intergrowth. Remarkable examples are strontium ruthenates whose properties are dramatically tuned by impurities and disorder. In particular, Sr3Ru2O7 shows a strong variation in transport and magnetic properties depending on synthesis process. It is therefore crucial to correlate atomic structure and properties to identify the functionalities of individual nanostructural constituents. We report a comparative study between Sr3Ru2O7 crystals grown as single phase and in Sr3Ru2O7-Sr2RuO4 eutectics. Our analysis by transmission electron microscopy reveals that Sr3Ru2O7 domains of the eutectic have a significantly lower level of impurities compared to Sr3Ru2O7 single-phase crystals, where intergrowths of Sr4Ru3O10 and SrRuO3 phase are seen. This is confirmed by magnetic measurements. These results identify the eutectic solidification as a fruitful way to grow highly pure crystals of polymorphic materials which, in combination with recent technological developments allowing the extraction of embedded features of crystals, opens a pathway for understanding of their physical properties and applications.

• Identifying Cleartext in Historical Ciphers
• 2022
• Ingår i: Proceedings of the Workshop on Language Technologies for Historical and Ancient Languages. LT4HALA 2022.. - 9791095546788
• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
• In historical encrypted sources we can find encrypted text sequences, also called ciphertext, as well as non-encrypted cleartexts written in a known language. While most of the cryptanalysis focuses on the decryption of ciphertext, cleartext is often overlooked although it can give us important clues about the historical interpretation and contextualisation of the manuscript. In this paper, we investigate to what extent we can automatically distinguish cleartext from ciphertext in historical ciphers and to what extent we are able to identify its language. The problem is challenging as cleartext sequences in ciphers are often short, up to a few words, in different languages due to historical code-switching. To identify the sequences and the language(s), we chose a rule-based approach and run 7 different models using historical language models on various ciphertexts.

• Czech Historical Named Entity Corpus v 1.0
• 2020
• Ingår i: 12th Conference on Language Resources and Evaluation (LREC 2020). - Paris : European Language Resources Association. - 9791095546344 ; , s. 4458-4465
• Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
• As the number of digitized archival documents increases very rapidly, named entity recognition (NER) in historical documents has become very important for information extraction and data mining. For this task an annotated corpus is needed, which has up to now been missing for Czech. In this paper we present a new annotated data collection for historical NER, composed of Czech historical newspapers. This corpus is freely available for research purposes at http://chnec.kiv.zcu.cz/. For this corpus, we have defined relevant domain-specific named entity types and created an annotation manual for corpus labelling. We further conducted some experiments on this corpus using recurrent neural networks in order to in order to show baseline results on this dataset. We experimented with randomly initialized embeddings and static and dynamic fastText word embeddings. We achieved 0.73 F1 score with a bidirectional LSTM model using static fastText embeddings.

• Pan-cancer analysis of genomic and transcriptomic data reveals the prognostic relevance of human proteasome genes in different cancer types.
• 2022
• Ingår i: BMC cancer. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1471-2407. ; 22
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• The human proteasome gene family (PSM) consists of 49 genes that play a crucial role in cancer proteostasis. However, little is known about the effect of PSM gene expression and genetic alterations on clinical outcome in different cancer forms. Here, we performed a comprehensive pan-cancer analysis of genetic alterations in PSM genes and the subsequent prognostic value of PSM expression using data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) containing over 10,000 samples representing up to 33 different cancer types. External validation was performed using a breast cancer cohort and KM plotter with four cancer types. The PSM genetic alteration frequency was high in certain cancer types (e.g. 67%; esophageal adenocarcinoma), with DNA amplification being most common. Compared with normal tissue, most PSM genes were predominantly overexpressed in cancer. Survival analysis also established a relationship with PSM gene expression and adverse clinical outcome, where PSMA1 and PSMD11 expression were linked to more unfavorable prognosis in≥30% of cancer types for both overall survival (OS) and relapse-free interval (PFI). Interestingly, PSMB5 gene expression was associated with OS (36%) and PFI (27%), and OS for PSMD2 (42%), especially when overexpressed. These findings indicate that several PSM genes may potentially be prognostic biomarkers and novel therapeutic targets for different cancer forms.
