  • The Seventh Visual Object Tracking VOT2019 Challenge Results
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: 2019 IEEE/CVF INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON COMPUTER VISION WORKSHOPS (ICCVW). - : IEEE COMPUTER SOC. - 9781728150239 ; , s. 2206-2241
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Visual Object Tracking challenge VOT2019 is the seventh annual tracker benchmarking activity organized by the VOT initiative. Results of 81 trackers are presented; many are state-of-the-art trackers published at major computer vision conferences or in journals in the recent years. The evaluation included the standard VOT and other popular methodologies for short-term tracking analysis as well as the standard VOT methodology for long-term tracking analysis. The VOT2019 challenge was composed of five challenges focusing on different tracking domains: (i) VOT-ST2019 challenge focused on short-term tracking in RGB, (ii) VOT-RT2019 challenge focused on "real-time" short-term tracking in RGB, (iii) VOT-LT2019 focused on long-term tracking namely coping with target disappearance and reappearance. Two new challenges have been introduced: (iv) VOT-RGBT2019 challenge focused on short-term tracking in RGB and thermal imagery and (v) VOT-RGBD2019 challenge focused on long-term tracking in RGB and depth imagery. The VOT-ST2019, VOT-RT2019 and VOT-LT2019 datasets were refreshed while new datasets were introduced for VOT-RGBT2019 and VOT-RGBD2019. The VOT toolkit has been updated to support both standard short-term, long-term tracking and tracking with multi-channel imagery. Performance of the tested trackers typically by far exceeds standard baselines. The source code for most of the trackers is publicly available from the VOT page. The dataset, the evaluation kit and the results are publicly available at the challenge website(1).

  • Impaired meningeal lymphatic drainage in patients with idiopathic Parkinson’s disease
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Nature Medicine. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1078-8956 .- 1546-170X. ; 27:3, s. 411-418
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Animal studies implicate meningeal lymphatic dysfunction in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease (PD). However, there is no direct evidence in humans to support this role1–5. In this study, we used dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging to assess meningeal lymphatic flow in cognitively normal controls and patients with idiopathic PD (iPD) or atypical Parkinsonian (AP) disorders. We found that patients with iPD exhibited significantly reduced flow through the meningeal lymphatic vessels (mLVs) along the superior sagittal sinus and sigmoid sinus, as well as a notable delay in deep cervical lymph node perfusion, compared to patients with AP. There was no significant difference in the size (cross-sectional area) of mLVs in patients with iPD or AP versus controls. In mice injected with α-synuclein (α-syn) preformed fibrils, we showed that the emergence of α-syn pathology was followed by delayed meningeal lymphatic drainage, loss of tight junctions among meningeal lymphatic endothelial cells and increased inflammation of the meninges. Finally, blocking flow through the mLVs in mice treated with α-syn preformed fibrils increased α-syn pathology and exacerbated motor and memory deficits. These results suggest that meningeal lymphatic drainage dysfunction aggravates α-syn pathology and contributes to the progression of PD.

  • Co-Evolution of Knowledge-Intensive Entrepreneurial Firms and Science Parks in an Entrepreneurial Ecosystem: Capabilities supporting BioBay at Suzhou Industry Park, China
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Zheijang University Seminar series.
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Public-policy makers in emerging economics often want to stimulate knowledge- intensive industries, as a means to catch-up with innovation-based advanced economies. Literature on regional innovation systems and ecosystems have extensively studied agglomeration effects, and often with a focus upon the particular role of stimulating universities and scientific research. Yet funding science is not enough, due to what we identify as three complex issues related to the development of capabilities in firms and public agencies at the local-global interface. In catch-up theory, public policy which stimulates science-based industries can be seen as policy reacting to a short window of technological opportunity. In this paper, we are specifically focused upon public-private co-evolution in the biotech-pharmaceutical industry, which is highly dependent upon internal R&D and public science but also specific knowledge about national markets and global regulations. Based upon a seven-year qualitative study, we focus upon a science park in a second tier Chinese city, namely BioBay at Suzhou Industry Park. We propose a co-evolutionary process model of one element of the ecosystem, namely how increasing scale, learning and interactions between knowledge-intensive entrepreneurial firms and science parks lead to the development of both public and private capabilities to react upon this technological opportunity through entrepreneurship.

  • Sex differences in oncogenic mutational processes
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Nature Communications. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 2041-1723. ; 11
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Sex differences have been observed in multiple facets of cancer epidemiology, treatment and biology, and in most cancers outside the sex organs. Efforts to link these clinical differences to specific molecular features have focused on somatic mutations within the coding regions of the genome. Here we report a pan-cancer analysis of sex differences in whole genomes of 1983 tumours of 28 subtypes as part of the ICGC/TCGA Pan-Cancer Analysis of Whole Genomes (PCAWG) Consortium. We both confirm the results of exome studies, and also uncover previously undescribed sex differences. These include sex-biases in coding and non-coding cancer drivers, mutation prevalence and strikingly, in mutational signatures related to underlying mutational processes. These results underline the pervasiveness of molecular sex differences and strengthen the call for increased consideration of sex in molecular cancer research.

  • A molecular dynamics study on pH response of protein adsorbed on peptide-modified polyvinyl alcohol hydrogel
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Biomaterials science. - : Royal Society of Chemistry. - 2047-4830. ; 2:3, s. 419-426
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The interactions between proteins and functional biomaterials under different physical and environmental conditions need to be understood when designing biomedical devices. Herein, we present a molecular dynamics simulation study of the fragment antigen-binding (Fab) of trastuzumab (a monoclonal antibody) and its complex with a peptide-modified polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) hydrogel at different pH values. Consistent with experiments, PVA when modified by charged ligands does shrink as a direct response to a drop in the pH. The protein maintains a stable conformation when adsorbed on the hydrogel matrix with a varied pH, showing no signs of denaturation in all simulated systems, suggesting that peptide-grafted PVA is a good biocompatible material. Under neutral conditions, the hydrogel alone stabilizes the interactions between the protein and the peptide ligands. Strikingly under acidic conditions the protein-ligand interactions are disrupted by a collective protonation of ligands. A sharp decrease in the interaction energies, accompanied by the sudden increase of the protein-ligand distance, indicates a rapid pH response in the protein-hydrogel complex. This will be important in protein delivery and purification. The effect of pH on the interactions and the dynamics of the protein and the sudden pH response of the hydrogel at the atomic level present a new functional perspective in developing new hydrogels with desirable properties.

  • [Ti8Zr2O12(COO)(16)] Cluster : An Ideal Inorganic Building Unit for Photoactive Metal-Organic Frameworks
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Acs Central Science. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 2374-7943 .- 2374-7951. ; 4:1, s. 105-111
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) based on Ti-oxo clusters (Ti-MOFs) represent a naturally self-assembled superlattice of TiO2 nanoparticles separated by designable organic linkers as antenna chromophores, epitomizing a promising platform for solar energy conversion. However, despite the vast, diverse, and well-developed Ti-cluster chemistry, only a scarce number of Ti-MOFs have been documented. The synthetic conditions of most Ti-based clusters are incompatible with those required for MOF crystallization, which has severely limited the development of Ti-MOFs. This challenge has been met herein by the discovery of the [Ti8Zr2O12(COO)(16)] cluster as a nearly ideal building unit for photoactive MOFs. A family of isoreticular photoactive MOFs were assembled, and their orbital alignments were fine-tuned by rational functionalization of organic linkers under computational guidance. These MOFs demonstrate high porosity, excellent chemical stability, tunable photoresponse, and good activity toward photocatalytic hydrogen evolution reactions. The discovery of the [Ti8Zr2O12(COO)(16)] cluster and the facile construction of photoactive MOFs from this cluster shall pave the way for the development of future Ti-MOF-based photocatalysts.
