  • Anger and disgust shape judgments of social sanctions across cultures, especially in high individual autonomy societies
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Scientific Reports. - : Nature Research. - 2045-2322. ; 14:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • When someone violates a social norm, others may think that some sanction would be appropriate. We examine how the experience of emotions like anger and disgust relate to the judged appropriateness of sanctions, in a pre-registered analysis of data from a large-scale study in 56 societies. Across the world, we find that individuals who experience anger and disgust over a norm violation are more likely to endorse confrontation, ostracism and, to a smaller extent, gossip. Moreover, we find that the experience of anger is consistently the strongest predictor of judgments of confrontation, compared to other emotions. Although the link between state-based emotions and judgments may seem universal, its strength varies across countries. Aligned with theoretical predictions, this link is stronger in societies, and among individuals, that place higher value on individual autonomy. Thus, autonomy values may increase the role that emotions play in guiding judgments of social sanctions.

  • Multi-stage supply restoration of active distribution networks with SOP integration
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Sustainable Energy, Grids and Networks. - : Elsevier Ltd. - 2352-4677. ; 29
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Supply restoration from outages is essential for improving the reliability of active distribution networks (ADNs) after fault isolation. Soft open point (SOP) can adjust the power flow among feeders and provide voltage support for power outage areas. Considering the sequential coordination of switching operation and SOP control mode selection, a multi-stage supply restoration method with SOPs is proposed for ADNs. First, the sequential energization is formulated, in which the impact of SOP control mode on restoration sequence is analyzed. By providing voltage support, the coordination of SOPs will rapidly energize the outage area and improve the voltage profile. Then, a multi-stage restoration model with SOPs is proposed, in which reconfiguration of switches and control mode selection of SOPs are coordinated in sequence to maximize the load recovery level of ADNs. Through the switching action-time mapping, secure operation is ensured during the entire supply restoration process. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is validated on a modified IEEE 33-node distribution system and practical distribution networks with four-terminal SOP. Results show that the proposed method can fully exploit the potential benefits of SOPs and effectively enhance the load recovery level of ADNs.

  • Interval Number-Based Safety Reasoning Method for Verification of Decentralized Power Systems in High-Speed Trains
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Mathematical problems in engineering (Print). - : Hindawi Limited. - 1024-123X .- 1563-5147. ; 2021
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Decentralized power systems are commonly used in high-speed trains. However, many parameters in decentralized power systems are uncertain and inevitably have errors. We present a reasoning method based on the interval numbers for decentralized power systems in high-speed trains. Uncertain parameters and their unavoidable errors are quantitatively described by interval numbers. We also define generalized linear equations with interval numbers (LAIs), which can be used to describe the movement of the train. Furthermore, it is proven that the zero sets of LAIs are convex. Therefore, the inside of the fault-tolerance area can be formed by their vertexes and edges and represented by linear inequalities. Consequently, we can judge whether the system is working properly by verifying that the current system state is in the fault-tolerance area. Finally, a fault-tolerance area is obtained, which can be determined by linear equations with an interval number, and we test the correctness of the fault-tolerance area through large-scale random test cases.

  • Multi-resource dynamic coordinated planning of flexible distribution network
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Nature Communications. - : Nature Portfolio. - 2041-1723. ; 15:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The flexible distribution network presents a promising architecture to accommodate highly integrated distributed generators and increasing loads in an efficient and cost-effective way. The distribution network is characterised by flexible interconnections and expansions based on soft open points, which enables it to dispatch power flow over the entire system with enhanced controllability and compatibility. Herein, we propose a multi-resource dynamic coordinated planning method of flexible distribution network that allows allocation strategies to be determined over a long-term planning period. Additionally, we establish a probabilistic framework to address source-load uncertainties, which mitigates the security risks of voltage violations and line overloads. A practical distribution network is adopted for flexible upgrading based on soft open points, and its cost benefits are evaluated and compared with that of traditional planning approaches. By adjusting the acceptable violation probability in chance constraints, a trade-off between investment efficiency and operational security can be realised.

  • Energy-water nexus analysis of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) in China based on statistical methodologies
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: CLEANER ENERGY FOR CLEANER CITIES. - : Elsevier. ; , s. 259-264, s. 259-264
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) are considered as energy-intensive facilities. Against the background of stricter policy requirements and discharge standard, thousands of municipal WWTPs are experiencing upgrading and reconstruction in China. However, the accompanying energy consumption cannot be ignored. Based on the statistical analysis of energy consumption and relevant factors from data of more than six thousand WWTPs over China, in this paper we analyzed the most influential factors related to energy consumption, which include treatment technology, wastewater amount, removed pollutants, social and economic characteristics, etc. Furthermore, we set up systematic method of energy performance assessment for WWTPs and explored the potential of energy saving in WWTPs. Results showed that processing capacity, organic pollutant concentration, discharge standard and economic factors have major effects on energy efficiency. Although sludge treatment and disposal normally consume intensive energy, it is possible to recover energy from biomass in the sludge. The results indicate that there is huge potential for energy saving and recovery in WWTPs, and we propose a conceptual roadmap for energy efficiency improving in WWTPs in China.

  • COMPOSITE SUPPORTED LIQUID MEMBRANE CONTAINING MIMIC ENZYME FOR CO2 CAPTURE
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Energy. Proc.. - : Scanditale AB.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Current technologies for capturing carbon from flue gas are plagued by high capital, energy and chemical costs, etc. Here, we report a composite supported liquid membrane containing mimic enzyme that may provide a possible solution to these issues. This composite membrane has two highly permeable silicone layers which immobilize the mimic enzyme (Zn-cyclen complex) solution in the pores of a cellulose acetate nanofiltration membrane. The schematic is showed in Fig.1. The membrane couples the selectivity of liquid sorbents and energy-efficiency of membrane separation without absorbent regeneration unit. The prepared Zn-cyclen complex was characterized by1HNMR and dissociation constant (pKa). The contact angles of the cellulose acetate support membrane and the prepared composite membrane were tested. CO2 separation performances of the membranes were studied in a plate-and-frame membrane module system. The membrane system presents a CO2/N2 selectivity of 94 and a CO2 permeance of 1.33 [m3 (STP)/(m2 bar h)] with a very small amount of 0.0052 M mimic enzyme. This composite supported liquid membrane shows the advantages of low cost, simple production procedure and high CO2 separation performance.

  • COMPARISON OF BIOCHAR ENHANCEMENTS FOR AMMONIA (NH4 –N) SORPTION FROM CONCENTRATED WASTEWATER APPLICATIONS
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Energy Proceedings. - : Scanditale AB.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • NH4-N-loaded steam-activated biochar (BC) is found to be a suitable candidate for soil amendment and fertilization. Compared with four other char-based sorbents, H2O-activated BC adsorbed the highest amount of NH4-N (1440 mgNH4 −N. kg−1BC ) sourced from a high nitrogen wastewater sample, and showed a limited desorption of 19.6 % under acidic conditions. In comparison, neat BC and activated carbon (AC) achieved lower adsorption capabilities, with theoretical maxima of −1 1028 mgNH4 −N. kgBC and 733 mgNH4 −N. kg−1AC, respectively. While neat AC obtained a lower desorption of 19.5 %, neat BC showed similar desorption capabilities to that of the H2 O-activated BC. Oxidative treatment using 10 % H2 O2 reduced adsorption for BC (520 mgNH4 −N. kg−1BC ) and AC (545 mgNH4 −N. kg−1AC ) and increased desorption to 47.9 % and 41.9 %, respectively. From these results, H2O-activated biochar clearly is the most suitable for soil amendment that is resistant to leaching, is environmentally-friendly, and is an energy-efficient nitrogen adjunct. A simplified version of an adsorption process simulated in AspenTech predicts that NH4-N may be recovered at an energy cost lower than that of the Haber-Bosch process for AC yields of below 19.5 %. A more in-depth investigation still needs to be completed to evaluate the techno-economic feasibility for this class of loaded sorbents, and whether this means of nitrogen capture from wastewater is a suitable replacement of the costly Haber Bosch process.
