    • Blockchain technology can safely and reliably track the creation process of digital twins. To ensure the data security in the case of untrusted multiple parties sharing data and to improve users’ satisfaction with the use of digital assets in daily transactions, in this article, the digital twin technology is combined with the blockchain technology, and for multiple scenarios in blockchain networks, a credible and efficient edge computing resource allocation method is proposed based on deep reinforcement learning (DRL) theory. The log storage system of the blockchain is mainly used as the interface for writing and reading data operation logs, and a hybrid storage strategy is put forward for the log storage system. As for the trusted resource allocation under the decentralized model of the blockchain network, to prevent the system from directly offloading the computing tasks submitted by the user each time to the edge server, first, the task is submitted to the system, and then a more reasonable resource allocation strategy is implemented with the user satisfaction as the standard. The simulation experiment results show that the improved environment after the introduction of the log storage system reduces the storage overhead by about 75% compared with the blockchain benchmark environment. When the number of servers is greater than 5, compared with other resource allocation algorithms, user satisfaction of the resource allocation algorithm based on DRL theory has been significantly improved, and compared with Q-learning algorithm, its user satisfaction has increased by 15%. In conclusion, the digital twins use credible source data as input. In this process, the blockchain ensures the security of data management, and finally, the data analysis is performed to predict events and evaluate related factors. The resource allocation method based on DRL realizes credible resource utilization based on recorded data on the blockchain.

    • This chapter presents a brief review of studies on swirling and non-swirling impinging jets. Also, a numerical investigation of heat transfer from impinging swirling jets is described. Various turbulence models are used. Comparison with experimental data is provided. Generally, the V2f model was found to perform better than other models, but for small nozzle-to-plate distances, it was hard to maintain good or sufficient accuracy. The difference in performance, in terms of the Nusselt number distribution on the impingement wall, between swirling and non-swirling impinging jets was clearly identified. The magnitude of the swirling motion has great infl uence on the flow field and the formation of recirculating zones and accordingly the heat transfer process.     • Microplastics research has gained momentum in the 21st century but lags behind the long-standing research on clastic sediment. An interdisciplinary review paper was conducted, comparing microplastics with natural sediments in terms of particle properties, transport processes, sampling techniques, and ecotoxicology. The paper identifies seven research goals to enhance our understanding of microplastics in freshwater environments while learning from sediment research. This extended abstract presents the core message of the review paper, emphasizing the need to improve descriptions of microplastic particles, understand their transport processes, develop standardized sampling methods, and study their ecotoxicological effects. The research goals outline specific tasks to achieve these objectives and emphasize the importance of comparing microplastics to sediments to gain insights into their toxicity. Addressing these research goals will contribute to a comprehensive understanding of microplastics and their impact on freshwater ecosystems.     • Semiconductors and the associated methodologies applied to electrochemistry have recently grown as an emerging field in energy materials and technologies. Fuel cells have been developed in line with traditional electrochemistry employing three basic functional components: anode, electrolyte and cathode. The electrolyte is a key component to the device performance by providing an ionic charge flow pathway between the anode and cathode but preventing electron conduction. By contrast, semiconductors and the derived heterostructures with electronic (hole) conducting materials have been strongly developed with much better ionic conductors instead of a conventional ionic electrolyte for novel fuel cells. Energy band structures and alignments, band-bending and built-in-field are all important parameters in this context to accomplish the necessary fuel cell functionalities. This chapter extends widely the semiconductor-based electrochemical energy conversion and storage technologies, describing their fundamentals and working principles, with an intention to advance the understanding of the semiconductors and energy bands role in electrochemical devices of energy conversion and storage, as well as applications for emerging demands, widely involving in energy applications, such as photo catalysis/water splitting; battery and solar cell etc. It provides new ideas and new solutions to the problems beyond the conventional electrochemistry and presents new inter-disciplinary approaches to develop clean energy conversion and storage technologies.
