  • Research progress on biomass fuel ethanol
  • Annan publikation (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • Advances of domestic and overseas biomass fuel ethanol is outlined in this paper. Having evaluated its economic, energy, environmental and social benefits, thereafter its importance as a part of Chinese energy strategy had been confirmed. Finally, a feasible scheme for fuel ethanol production from biomass in large scale is suggested, used for reference.

  • Non-unitary neutrino mixing from an extra-dimensional seesaw model
  • 2010
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • We study the generation of light neutrino masses in an extra-dimensional model, where right-handed neutrinos are allowed to propagate in the extra dimension, while the Standard model (SM) particles are confined to a brane. Motivated by the fact that extra-dimensional models are non-renormalizable, we truncate the Kaluza–Klein (KK) towers at a maximal KK index. The structure of the bulk Majorana mass term, motivated by the Sherk–Schwarz mechanism, implies that the right-handed KK neutrinos pair to form Dirac neutrinos, except for a number of unpaired Majorana neutrinos at the top of each tower. These heavy Majorana neutrinos are the only sources of lepton number breaking in the model, and similarly to the type-I seesaw mechanism, they naturally generate small masses for the left-handed neutrinos. The lower KK modes mix with the light neutrinos, and the mixing effects are not suppressed with respect to the light neutrino masses. Compared to conventional fermionic seesaw models, the non-unitary effects induced by such mixing are quite significant. We study the signals of this model at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), and find that the current bounds on the non-unitarity parameters are strong enough to exclude an observation.

  • Bioconda: A sustainable and comprehensive software distribution for the life sciences
  • 2017
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • We present Bioconda (https://bioconda.github.io), a distribution of bioinformatics software for the lightweight, multi-platform and language-agnostic package manager Conda. Currently, Bioconda offers a collection of over 3000 software packages, which is continuously maintained, updated, and extended by a growing global community of more than 200 contributors. Bioconda improves analysis reproducibility by allowing users to define isolated environments with defined software versions, all of which are easily installed and managed without administrative privileges.

  • Effects of local relaxation on lattice parameter and elastic properties of Ni-W alloys at high temperature: A first-principles study
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Temperature-dependent properties are very useful in modeling the behavior of materials servicing at high temperature such as nickel-based superalloys. Besides, for predicting the mechanical properties of such alloys, experimental data at high temperature are very important, but scarce. For Ni-W alloys, both experimental and computational data are very rare. In this work, first-principles calculations are combined with a quasi-harmonic Debye model to evaluate the Helmholtz free energy of paramagnetic Ni-W binary solid solutions as a function of temperature, volume, and W content. Local relaxation around W atoms, which has often been ignored in electronic structure calculations for alloys, is considered in this work using supercell models. The effect of W on elastic properties has been analyzed, to evaluate the contributions due to local relaxation around W atoms. The calculated trends of bulk modulus and stiffness constants C11 and C12 to increase with W concentration are in good agreement with experimental measurements.

  • First-principles prediction of solute effects on thermal properties of nickel alloys
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The effects of Cr and W on high-temperature properties of Ni-based alloys are predicted by first principles calculations combined with a quasi-harmonic Debye model. The modeling procedure integrates all contributions from electronic excitations, magnetic fluctuations and lattice vibrations. The predicted lattice parameter and thermal expansion coefficient agree well with available reference values. The temperature dependence of elastic moduli for Ni-Cr alloys can be described satisfactorily. Debye temperature has been analyzed to show a strong volume dependence but weak temperature dependence. It was found that the concentration dependence of elastic moduli has a close relationship with the volume dependence of Debye temperature and thus the vibrational free energy. Besides, the softening of elastic moduli with increasing temperature is a result of thermal expansion which mainly comes from lattice vibrations. Therefore, lattice vibrations produce effects on both temperature and concentration dependencies of elastic properties at elevated temperatures. With the help of Labusch–Nabarro model, solid solution hardening caused by Cr and W impurities has been analyzed. Moreover, the presence of solute atoms gives rise to a higher elastic anisotropy. The effects of Cr or W additions on the thermodynamic properties are found to be small compared to the effect of temperature.
