  • 2024
  • Ingår i: IFIP Advances in Information and Communication Technology. - 1868-4238. ; 726, s. 305-318
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Manufacturing companies are increasingly transitioning from a product-centric to a smart Product Service System (smart PSS) approach to enhance customer satisfaction, service offerings, and product competitiveness through a combination of usage scenarios and digital components. In the context of Industry 5.0 transformation such as developing the Smart Electric Vehicle (SEV), the automotive industry faces the challenge of understanding customers’ descriptions of usage scenarios and translating the qualitative aspects of these scenarios into quantitatively assessed product features for collaborative value co-creation in smart PSS design. This paper addresses this challenge through utilizing Natural Language Processing (NLP) joint with Value-Driven Design (VDD) method for successfully supported a collaborative value exploration of in the smart PSS design stage. A case study was collaborated with a global automotive Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), Volkswagen, through proposing a NLP BERT model for VDD of Smart Electric Vehicle (SEV) design. Validation activities were performed by deploying the developed BERT model to the case company based on the scenario design of new car models.

  • Altered brain activities associated with cue reactivity during forced break in subjects with Internet gaming disorder
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Addictive Behaviours. - : Elsevier Ltd. - 0306-4603 .- 1873-6327. ; 102
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Studies have proven that forced break can elicit strong psychological cravings for addictive behaviors. This phenomenon could create an excellent situation to study the neural underpinnings of addiction. The current study explores brain features during a cue-reactivity task in Internet gaming disorder (IGD) when participants were forced to stop their gaming behaviors. Methods: Forty-nine IGD subjects and forty-nine matched recreational Internet game users (RGU) were asked to complete a cue-reactivity task when their ongoing gaming behaviors were forced to break. We compared their brain responses to gaming cues and tried to find specific features associated with IGD. Results: Compared with RGU, the IGD subjects showed decreased activation in the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), parahippocampal gyrus, and dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC). Significant negative correlations were observed between self-reported gaming cravings and the baseline activation level (bate value) of the ACC, DLPFC, and parahippocampal gyrus. Conclusions: IGD subjects were unable to suppress their gaming cravings after unexpectedly forced break. This result could also explain why RGU subjects are able to play online games without developing dependence. © 2019 Elsevier Ltd

  • Males are more sensitive to reward and less sensitive to loss than females among people with internet gaming disorder : FMRI evidence from a card-guessing task
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: BMC Psychiatry. - : BioMed Central. - 1471-244X. ; 20:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Many studies have found an interesting issue in the Internet gaming disorder (IGD): males are always observed to be the majority. However, there are little research to exploring the differences in the neural mechanisms between males and females in decision-making process among people with IGD. Therefore, explore the reward/loss processing between different gender with IGD could help in understanding the underlying neural mechanism of IGD. Methods: Data from functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) were collected from 111 subjects (IGD: 29 males, 25 females; recreational internet game user (RGU): 36 males, 21 females) while they were performing a card-guessing task. We collected and compared their brain features when facing the win and loss conditions in different groups. Results: For winning conditions, IGD group showed hypoactivity in the lingual gyrus than RGU group, male players showed hyperactivity in the left caudate nucleus, bilateral cingulate gyrus, right middle frontal gyrus (MFG), right precuneus and inferior parietal lobule relative to the females. And significant sex-by-group interactions results showed higher brain activities in the thalamus, parahippocampal gyrus and lower brain activities in Inferior frontal gyrus (IFG) were observed in males with IGD than females. For losing conditions, IGD group showed hypoactivity in the left lingual gyrus, parahippocampal gyrus and right anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) compared to the RGU group, male players showed hyperactive left caudate nucleus and hypoactive right middle occipital gyrus relative to females. And significant sex-by-group interactions results showed that compared to females with IGD, males with IGD showed decreased brain activities in the IFG and lingual gyrus. Conclusions: First, there appeared to be no difference in reward processing between the IGD and RGU group, but IGD showed less sensitivity to loss. Secondly, male players showed more sensitivity to rewards and less sensitivity to losses. Last but not least, males and females showed opposite activation patterns in IGD degree and rewards/losses processing. And male IGD subjects are more sensitive to reward and less sensitive to loss than females, which might be the reason for the gender different rates on IGD. © 2020 The Author(s).

  • Chinese Product-Service System Innovations Enabled via Governmental Policies : The E-Scooter Case
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the Design Society 2021. - : Cambridge University Press. ; , s. 611-620
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Together with increasingly saturated and commoditized global markets companies are driven to shift their business focus, adopting a strategy where customer perceived value is in the spotlight, and where products are bundled with services to offer Product-Service Systems (PSS). In this research we study the emergence of PSS solutions in the Chinese market via a selected case study on e-scooters, based on the governmental decision to ban fossil-fuel scooters in the late 90s and how this has spurred both a fossil-to-electric transformation and a product-to-function transformation. As seen in this research PSS is also an approach that is working well in the Eastern society and especially in China, based on governmental policies. It is gradually being adopted and applied in local industries significantly by China’s leading internet companies (Didi, Alibaba etc). The PSS concept represented by e-bike cases in China has gradually penetrated into different industries. With governmental decisions as the key turn-point, it can be seen in practice and development that China’s related service industry is using e-bike PSS to carry out the new business model from selling e-bikes to providing service-oriented solutions.

  • Exploration of the Digital Twin for Prototyping the Product-Service System Design in a Bus Manufacturing Company
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Design, User Experience,and Usability. - : Springer Science+Business Media B.V.. - 9783031613616 ; , s. 390-400
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • When bus manufacturing companies move forward in their serviti- zation journey for providing service solutions for tourism industry, there is an increasing need to exploit the prototype way to support the realization of design solutions in the early stages of the Product Service System (PSS) design. Digital twin, a new emerging and fast growing technology which connects the physical and virtual world, has attracted much attention worldwide recently. This paper presents a new method for PSS design based on the digital twin approach. The development of product design is briefly introduced first. The framework of digital twin approach is then proposed and analysed. The main work in this research work is how to trade off the ‘realism’ of the design output of the virtual concept. A case is presented to illustrate the application of the proposed DT approach for prod- uct prototyping. Verification activities performed the case in a virtual simulation environment prototype the design concepts in the tourism industry.

  • Future innovation framework (FIF) for value co-creation of smart Product-Service System design in a global manufacturing company
  • 2023
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Today, the Product-Service Systems (PSS) methodology is challenged by the emerging trend of digital servitization in supporting the development of the primarily product-oriented companies. Value co-creation strategy and global collaborative innovation are important for product-oriented industry to explore new ways of designing of smart PSS. In this paper, the Future Innovation Framework (FIF) is proposed as a mechanism to facilitate the adoption and use of value co-creation of smart PSS design in global manufacturing companies. Through qualitative research and literature review, the research focused on the collaboration between typical stakeholders in manufacturing industry, defining a smart PSS design process, and explaining how value co-creation could more effectively support the PSS design. This study proposes the FIF for smart PSS design from the perspective of value co-creation, to support the collaborative innovation teamwork, customer involvement and decision-making in the early design phase of smart PSS. The paper explains each of the design processes in which the product-oriented industry can use the FIF framework when designing smart PSS. The FIF was applied to an industrial smart PSS case – the design of the new product and service offering by automotive manufacturer Volkswagen. The FIF was used to verify the design of customer solution proposals for smart PSS. This paper discusses the implications, opportunities and challenges of the FIF for industrial smart PSS design. The paper concludes with a discussion on the possibility of using FIF in different industry domains in the future.

  • VALUE CO-CREATION FOR SUSTAINABLE PRODUCT SERVICE SYSTEM DESIGN : OPPORTUNITY FOR GLOBAL MANUFACTURING COMPANIES
  • 2024
  • Licentiatavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • There is a gradually spreading servitization trend that is forcing industrial manufacturing companies acting in the global market to rethink their business. Manufacturing companies that were traditionally perceived as product-centered, are today increasingly influenced by a service-oriented theory, which claims that manufacturing companies are driven to shift their business focus towards a strategy where customer-perceived value is in the spotlight, and where products are bundled with services to offer Product-Service Systems (PSS). The need to integrate several knowledge domains (i.e. product development, service development, recycling, etc.) means that industry companies need to move “downstream” knowledge from the entire lifecycle into the early phases of the PSS design process where critical decisions are made. At the same time, this raises the awareness of, and requirements for, methods and tools that support cross-disciplinary team collaboration in the process of designing these PSS solutions. Value co-creation is one strategy to address customer collaboration to develop PSS in a framework that allows different stakeholders to participate in defining design concepts and finding the optimal combination of hardware and service that supplies the desired value. Value co-creation strategy and global collaborative innovation are essential for manufacturing companies to explore new ways of designing PSS.The thesis summarizes the research performed by the author, as an industrial Ph.D. student and director for system innovation at BIGmind Innovation. This thesis aims to study and explore the motivation for, and challenges of, working with value co-creation for PSS design by global manufacturing companies. Firstly, the empirical research determined that there are different challenges that global manufacturing companies and product development face when designing PSS. The work involves exploring value co-creation via a customer collaborative design platform and experience prototyping for product-service system design. The research shows that there is a lack of knowledge about guidelines and processes for collaboration in value co-creation. The research emphasizes that the PSS design methodologies of today neglect to specify the roles and responsibilities of the actors who co-create PSS offerings, and there is a lack of understanding of the entire process and how it is implemented in industrial practice when developing solutions. Conclusions from this work suggest that government policies can make a fast and major impact on the demand for innovations and PSS development. Additionally, a value co-creation approach promotes large-scale user participation in the early phase of PSS design. To enhance stakeholder participation and gather feedback, experiential prototypes were utilized during the conceptual design phase of the PSS design. To support further development in the area of value co-creation, the Future Innovation Framework (FIF) is proposed as a mechanism to facilitate the adoption and use of value co-creation of PSS design. This thesis discusses the implications, opportunities, and challenges of the FIF for industrial PSS design. The thesis concludes with a discussion on the possibility of using value co-creation for PSS design in different industry domains in the future.
