  • Differential changes in gingival somatosensory sensitivity after painful electrical tooth stimulation
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Experimental Brain Research. - : Springer. - 0014-4819 .- 1432-1106. ; 233:4, s. 1109-1118
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We aimed to evaluate the effect of painful tooth stimulation on gingival somatosensory sensitivity of healthy volunteers in a randomized, controlled design. Thirteen healthy volunteers (six women, seven men; 28.4 ± 5.0 years) were included for two experimental sessions of electrical tooth stimulation: painful tooth stimulation and tooth stimulation below the sensory threshold (control). Eight of the human subjects participated in a third session without tooth stimulation. In all sessions, the somatosensory sensitivity of the gingiva adjacent to the stimulated tooth was evaluated with a standardized battery of quantitative sensory tests (QST) before, immediately after and 30 min after tooth stimulation. Painful tooth stimulation evoked significant decreases in warmth and heat pain thresholds (P < 0.001) as well as pressure pain thresholds (increased sensitivity) (P = 0.024) and increases in mechanical detection thresholds (decreased sensitivity) (P < 0.050). Similar thermal threshold changes (P < 0.019) but no mechanical changes were found after tooth stimulation below the sensory threshold (P > 0.086). No QST changes were detected in the session without tooth stimulation (P > 0.060). In conclusion, modest increased gingival sensitivity to warmth, painful heat and pressure stimuli as well as desensitization to non-painful mechanical stimulation were demonstrated after tooth stimulation. This suggests involvement of competing heterotopic facilitatory and inhibitory mechanisms. Furthermore, stimulation below the sensory threshold induced similar thermal sensitization suggesting the possibility of activation of axon-reflex-like mechanisms even at intensities below the perception threshold. These findings may have implications for interpretation of somatosensory results in patients with chronic intraoral pain.

  • New laboratory lifetime measurements of U II for the uranium cosmochronometer
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Astronomy & Astrophysics. - : EDP Sciences. - 0004-6361 .- 1432-0746. ; 372:3, s. 50-52
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present new measurements of radiative lifetimes for six energy levelsof singly ionized uranium, U II, using laser-induced fluorescencetechnique. One of the levels,5f36d7p6M13/2 at 26191 cm-1,decays by a transition at 3859.6 Å. This line has recently beenobserved in the spectrum of the metal-poor star CS1082-001, the firstdetection of uranium outside the solar system. The lambda 3859 line canbe used as the presently most accurate cosmochronometer (Cayrel et al.cite{Cayrel}). Our value of the lifetime of the6M13/2 level is 18.6+/-0.7 ns, and it confirms thef-value used in the Nature article by Cayrel et al. (cite{Cayrel}),which is based on an experimental lifetime of 20+/-5 ns (Chen &Borzileri cite{Chen}). The new measurement also removes the doubt aboutthe choice between that value and other f-values in the literature, differing by a factor of 3. Adopting the same branching fraction as Chen& Borzileri (cite{Chen}) for the 3859.6 Å line, we derive agf-value of 0.68, which is 8% higher than the value used by Cayrel etal. (cite{Cayrel}). Of significance for the chronometer is also thereduced uncertainty of the radiative lifetime, 4% compared to 25%, andconsequently of the f-value, which should decrease the uncertainty inthe determination of the stellar age considerably.

  • Experimental oscillator strengths in Th II
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Astronomy & Astrophysics. - : EDP Sciences. - 0004-6361 .- 1432-0746. ; 382:1, s. 368-377
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We have measured radiative lifetimes of ten Th II levels by using thelaser-induced fluorescence technique and branching fractions withFourier transform spectroscopy. By combining the new branching fractionswith a total of 23 lifetimes, from the present work and frommeasurements by Simonsen et al. (cite{Simonsen}), absolute oscillatorstrengths for 180 lines have been derived. Some of these new f-valuesreported are relevant for radioactive dating of stars.

  • Energy Levels, Transition Rates and Electron Impact Excitation Rates for the B-like Isoelectronic Sequence with Z=24-30
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series. - : Bibliopolis, Edizioni di Filosofia e Scienze. - 0067-0049 .- 1538-4365. ; 239:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report calculations of spectroscopic accuracy for 513 states in the B-like ions with Z = 24-30. The energy levels and transition rates are calculated using the second-order many-body perturbation theory, while multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock calculations are performed to support the former results. The present two sets of results agree excellently with each other, and can be used as benchmarks in the future. The electron-impact excitation (EIE) collision strengths are calculated based on independent processes and isolated resonances approximation using the distorted wave method. Based on the present atomic data, the spectral lines of these ions are simulated using a collisional radiative model. The amount of energy, transition data, and EIE collision strengths of high accuracy are significantly increased for several B-like ions of astrophysical interest, where experimental data are still very scarce. The results can be used in line identification, plasma modeling, and diagnostics of astrophysical plasmas.

  • Energy levels, lifetimes and radiative rates for transitions in the bromine isoelectronic sequence La XXIII-Dy XXXII, W XL
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Atomic Data and Nuclear Data Tables. - : Elsevier. - 0092-640X .- 1090-2090. ; 123, s. 114-167
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Using the multiconfiguration Dirac-Fock method, calculations for the lowest 62 levels of the ([Ar] 3d(10))4s(2) 4p(5), ([Ar] 3d(10))4s(2)4p(3)4d(2), ([Ar] 3d(10))4s(2)4p(4)4d, ([Ar] 3d(10))4s4p(6), and ([Ar] 3d(10))4s4p(5)4d configurations are performed for the bromine isoelectronic sequence La XXIII-Dy XXXII, W XL. Results of energy levels, lifetimes, wavelengths, and electric dipole, magnetic dipole, electric quadrupole, and magnetic quadrupole radiative rates are presented. In order to assess the accuracy of results, independent calculations for W XL have been carried out using the many-body perturbation theory (MBPT) method. Comparisons are made with available theoretical results from other calculations and the observed values of the Atomic Spectra Database of the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Energy levels are estimated to be accurate to better than 1%, and radiative rates (and lifetimes) are accurate to better than 20% for a majority of strong transitions. These results should be useful in many applications of lanthanide ions related to broad area of research such as applied physics, laser physics and fusion science. (C) 2017 Elsevier Inc. • Extended calculations of energy levels, radiative properties, A(J), B-J hyperfine interaction constants, and Lande g(J)-factors for nitrogen-like Ge XXVI
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Journal of Quantitative Spectroscopy and Radiative Transfer. - : Pergamon Press. - 0022-4073 .- 1879-1352. ; 208, s. 134-151
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Employing two state-of-the-art methods, multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock and second-order many body perturbation theory, highly accurate calculations are performed for the lowest 272 fine -structure levels arising from the 2s(2)2p(3), 2s(2)p(4), 2p(5), 2s(2)2p(2)3l (l = s, p, d), 2s2p(3)3l (l = s, p, d), and 2p(4)3l (l = s, p. d) configurations in nitrogen-like Ge XXVI. Complete and consistent atomic data, including excitation energies, lifetimes, wavelengths, hyperfine structures, Lande g(J)-factors, and E1, E2, M1, M2 line strengths, oscillator strengths, and transition rates among these 272 levels are provided. Comparisons are made between the present two data sets, as well as with other available experimental and theoretical values. The present data are accurate enough for identification and deblending of emission lines involving the n = 3 levels, and are also useful for modeling and diagnosing fusion plasmas. • Resonance-enhanced electron-impact excitation of Cu-like gold
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Journal of Quantitative Spectroscopy and Radiative Transfer. - : Pergamon Press. - 0022-4073 .- 1879-1352. ; 198, s. 48-58
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Employing the independent-process and isolated-resonance approximations using distorted-waves (IPIRDW), we have performed a series of calculations of the resonance-enhanced electron-impact excitations (EIE) among 27 singly excited levels from the n <= 6 configurations of Cu-like gold (Au, Z = 79). Resonance excitation (RE) contributions from both the n = 4 -> 4 - 7 and n = 3 -> 4 core excitations have been considered. Our results demonstrate that RE contributions are significant and enhance the effective collision strengths (Upsilon) of certain excitations by up to an order of magnitude at low temperature (10(6.1) K), and are still important at relatively high temperature (10(7.5) K). Results from test calculations of the resonance-enhanced EIE processes among 16 levels from the n <= 5 configurations using both the Dirac R-matrix (DRM) and IPIRDW approaches agree very well with each other. This means that the close coupling effects are not important for this ion, and thus warrants the reliability of present resonance enhanced EIE data among the 27 levels. The results from the collisional-radiative model (CRM) show that, at 3000 eV, near where Cu-like Au is most abundant, RE contributions have important effects (up to 25%) on the density diagnostic line intensity ratios, which are sensitive near 10(20) cm(-3). The present work is the first EIE research including RE contributions for Cu-like Au. Our EIE data are more accurate than previous results due to our consideration of RE contributions, and the data should be helpful for modeling and diagnosing a variety of plasmas. • Benchmarking Multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock Calculations for Astrophysics : Si-like Ions from Cr xi to Zn xvii
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series. - : Institute of Physics Publishing (IOPP). - 0067-0049 .- 1538-4365. ; 257:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock (MCDHF) and relativistic configuration interaction methods are used to provide excitation energies, lifetimes, and radiative transition data for the 604 (699, 702, 704, 704, 704, and 699) lowest levels of the 3s (2)3p (2), 3s3p (3), 3s (2)3p3d, 3p (4), 3s3p (2)3d, 3s (2)3d (2), 3p (3)3d, 3s3p3d (2), 3s3d (3), 3p3d (3), 3p (2)3d (2), 3s (2)3p4s, 3s (2)3p4p, 3s (2)3p4d, 3s (2)3p4f, 3s3p (2)4s, 3s3p (2)4p, 3s3p (2)4d, 3s3p (2)4f, 3s (2)3d4s, 3s (2)3d4p, 3p (3)4s, 3p (3)4p, 3s3p3d4s, 3s (2)3p5s, and 3s (2)3p5p configurations in Cr xi, (Mn xii, Fe xiii, Co xiv, Ni xv, Cu xvi, and Zn xvii). Previous line identifications of Fe xiii and Ni xv in the EUV and X-ray wavelength ranges are reviewed by comprehensively comparing the MCDHF theoretical results with available experimental data. Many recent identifications of Fe xiii and Ni xv lines are confirmed, and several new identifications for these two ions are proposed. A consistent atomic data set with spectroscopic accuracy is provided for the lowest hundreds of levels for Si-like ions of iron-group elements of astrophysical interest, for which experimental values are scarce. The uncertainty estimation method suggested by Kramida, applied to the comparison of the length and velocity line strength values, is used for ranking the transition data. The correlation of the latter with the gauge dependency patterns of the line strengths is investigated.
