  • CMOS device reliability : A modified charge-pumping method for the characterization of interface-trap generation in MOSFETs
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Selected Semiconductor Research. - : World Scientific Pub Co Pte Ltd. ; , s. 301-308
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • A novel recovery-free interface-trap measurement method is presented in detail. This method is the modification of the conventional charge pumping (CP) by extending the pulse low-level to the stress-bias and minimizing the pulse high-level duty cycle to suppress the recovery effect. The method is applied to study the negative-bias temperature instability in p-MOSFETs. As compared with the conventional CP, a much larger interface-trap generation under stress is observed by the new method. A power law time dependence (~ tn) of interface-trap generation is observed. The index n is less than that derived from conventional CP and increases with temperature, demonstrating a dispersive process involved in the trap generation dynamics.

  • Metal silicides in advanced complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Metallic Films for Electronic, Optical and Magnetic Applications. - : Woodhead Publishing Limited. - 9780857096296 - 9780857090577 ; , s. 244-301
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Metal silicides have become a basic building block in silicon (Si) metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs). During the past three decades, several different silicides have served various generations of complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology primarily as a low-resistivity solution to parasitic resistances in the three terminals of a MOSFET. The latest developments of CMOS technology have led to a converged utilisation of Ni-silicides for metallisation of the source and drain regions of transistors with 45 and 32 nm channel lengths. These developments have followed a set of basic requirements and fundamental rules for the silicide formation and growth. This chapter provides an overview of the technological developments of contact metallisation in advanced CMOS technology and attempts to project into the near future about the role of metal silicides in extremely scaled CMOS devices with non-planar device architectures. Fundamental aspects critical to past developments and to future projections will be discussed.

  • Cerebrolysin restores balance between excitatory and inhibitory amino acids in brain following concussive head injury : Superior neuroprotective effects of TiO2 nanowired drug delivery
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Brain protection strategies and nanomedicine. - : Elsevier BV. - 9780323989275 ; , s. 211-267
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Concussive head injury (CHI) often associated with military personnel, soccer players and related sports personnel leads to serious clinical situation causing lifetime disabilities. About 3-4 k head injury per 100 k populations are recorded in the United States since 2000-2014. The annual incidence of concussion has now reached to 1.2% of population in recent years. Thus, CHI inflicts a huge financial burden on the society for rehabilitation. Thus, new efforts are needed to explore novel therapeutic strategies to treat CHI cases to enhance quality of life of the victims. CHI is well known to alter endogenous balance of excitatory and inhibitory amino acid neurotransmitters in the central nervous system (CNS) leading to brain pathology. Thus, a possibility exists that restoring the balance of amino acids in the CNS following CHI using therapeutic measures may benefit the victims in improving their quality of life. In this investigation, we used a multimodal drug Cerebrolysin (Ever NeuroPharma, Austria) that is a well-balanced composition of several neurotrophic factors and active peptide fragments in exploring its effects on CHI induced alterations in key excitatory (Glutamate, Aspartate) and inhibitory (GABA, Glycine) amino acids in the CNS in relation brain pathology in dose and time-dependent manner. CHI was produced in anesthetized rats by dropping a weight of 114.6 g over the right exposed parietal skull from a distance of 20 cm height (0.224 N impact) and blood-brain barrier (BBB), brain edema, neuronal injuries and behavioral dysfunctions were measured 8, 24, 48 and 72 h after injury. Cerebrolysin (CBL) was administered (2.5, 5 or 10 mL/kg, i.v.) after 4-72 h following injury. Our observations show that repeated CBL induced a dose-dependent neuroprotection in CHI (5-10 mL/kg) and also improved behavioral functions. Interestingly when CBL is delivered through TiO2 nanowires superior neuroprotective effects were observed in CHI even at a lower doses (2.5-5 mL/kg). These observations are the first to demonstrate that CBL is effectively capable to attenuate CHI induced brain pathology and behavioral disturbances in a dose dependent manner, not reported earlier.

  • Antenna design for diversity and MIMO application
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Handbook of Antenna Technologies. - Singapore : Springer. - 9789814560443 - 9789814560436 ; , s. 1479-1530
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Recently, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology and diversity have attracted much attention both in industry and academia due to high data rate and high spectrum efficiency. By increasing the number of antennas at the transmitter and/or the receiver side of the wireless link, the diversity/MIMO techniques can increase wireless channel capacity without the need of additional power or spectrum in rich scattering environments. However, due to limited space of small mobile devices, the correlation coefficients between MIMO antenna elements are usually very high, and the total efficiencies of MIMO elements would be degraded severely due to mutual couplings. In addition, the human body causes high losses on electromagnetic waves. In real applications, the presence of users may result in significant reduction of total antenna efficiencies, and the correlations of MIMO antenna systems are also highly affected. In this chapter, the performance of some basic MIMO antennas as well as recent technologies to improve MIMO antenna performance of portable devices and mobile terminals are reviewed. The interactions between MIMO antennas and human body are also addressed particularly in mobile terminals application.

  • Heat Pump Technologies and Their Applications in Solar Systems
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Advanced Energy Efficiency Technologies for Solar Heating, Cooling and Power Generation. - Cham : Springer. - 9783030172824 - 9783030172831 ; , s. 311-339
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • As the well known that global energy demand is on a trend of continuous growth, reducing energy demand and making good use of renewable energy are thought to be the major routes toward low carbon and sustainable future, in particular for the building sector. Compared to traditional gas-fired heating systems, heat pumps have been proved to be an energy-efficient heating technology which can save fossil fuel energy and consequently reduce CO2 emission. However, the most outstanding challenges for the application of heat pumps lie in their high demand for electrical power, and the insufficient heat transfer between the heat source and the refrigerant. To overcome these difficulties, a solar-assisted heat pump has been proposed to tackle these challenges. A solar-assisted heat pump combines a heat pump with a solar collector, enabling the use of solar energy to provide space heating and hot water for buildings. This chapter introduces heat pump technologies and their applications in solar systems. Two types of solar-assisted heat pump, direct and indirect expansion, are illustrated in details. This work has provided the fundamental research and experience for developing a solar heat pump system and contributing to a significant fossil fuel saving and carbon reduction in the global extent.

  • Solar Systems’ Economic and Environmental Performance Assessment
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Advanced Energy Efficiency Technologies for Solar Heating, Cooling and Power Generation. - Cham : Springer. - 9783030172824 - 9783030172831 ; , s. 453-486
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The economic and environmental performance assessment of the solar system plays a critical role in building design, operation and retrofit. A dedicated economic model is necessary to assess the investment feasibility on a new technology, which allows investors to decide on a profitable investment, compare investment projects and know about the benefits of the best investment. An environmental model is adopted to predict carbon emission reduction in the solar system relative to the traditional heating and electronic systems. This chapter introduced three up-to-date solar system models and corresponding assessments related to their applications, including solar photovoltaic/loop heat pipe (PV/LHP) heat pump water heating system, loop heat pipe-based solar thermal facade (LHP-STF), heat pump water heating system as well as solar thermal facade (STF). The research results will be able to assist in decision-making in implementation of the proposed PV/T technology and analyses of the associated economic and environmental benefits, thus contributing to realization of regional and global targets on fossil fuel energy saving and environmental sustainability.
