  • La historia y los estudios rurales a partir de los sesenta: de la descolonización al medio ambiente y la soberanía alimentaria
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Ayer. - Madrid : ASOCIACIÓN DE HISTORIA CONTEMPORÁNEA. - 1134-2277. ; 120:4, s. 19-51
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This text analyses the thematic change in rural history from the 1960s until today. Initially, the field focused on the transition from feudalism to capitalism, on the growth of the preconditions of indus- trial development. It examined developments within the pre-industrial agrarian society, focussing largely on peasant agency. Later, the empha- sis shifted towards the environment, the sustainability (and most re- cently the resiliency) of historical agricultural production systems and food sovereignty. The hypothesis is that many early approaches were inspired by the decolonisation of Europe’s Asian and African colonies, the (peasant-) revolution in China and the development of rural soci- ology. The present change in focus is related to the emergence of en- vironmental agendas and of issues concerning free trade and the dom- inance of the food sector by large multinational companies. The focus is foremost on Scandinavian historiography.

  • The Controversy Around Agricultural Rationalization and Rural Communities in Post Second World War Sweden
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: História Unicap. - Pernambuco. - 2359-2370. ; 8:15, s. 68-84
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper explores explanations, interpretations, perceptions and valuations of post war agricultural rationalization and the interlinked ruraltransformation and urbanization processes in Sweden. Both political and market driven factors areconsidered. Specifically, the local government reforms of the 1950s and 1960s are highlighted as they tended to put an end to the autonomy of rural communities. Political protests against these developments, driven by the Peasant/Center party arestudied using all issues of the party’s monthly politicalmagazine 1960-1980. The paper ends in a reflectionon the rural and agricultural side of the major, sometimes open, sometimes latent political-ideological conflict in Sweden in much of the 20th century, between the Peasant/Center party and the Social Democrats.
