Exploring Advanced Projects as Meeting Points between Students and Industry

- This study includes survey of the Swedish companies and other potential employers perspective/view on the computer science students´ projects as well as the opportunities and limitations for the students. This is the first major study we have undertaken within this bachelor programme to, in depth, investigate both the company and the student views of how we should incorporate industry-oriented working methods in the context of CDIO. From the companies´ perspective, for example we are evaluating questions related to the projects´ size and projects´ output; the confidentiality of the projects; the communication aspects, like how early and how often a company need to meet the students; the job opportunities after graduation; or if the company is interested in other ways of being involved in the bachelor program. Two courses in the last semester, in the Bachelor Programme in Computer Science and Engineering, are implemented as work-based projects. Here, the students have an opportunity to work with an advanced project incorporating both prototype building, software development and academic research. The full time twenty-week project is incorporating the Conceive, Design and Implement parts of the CDIO concept. For the last three years, the proportion of work-based projects have varied between 40 % and 80 % and has mainly been done in co-operation with private companies. A few projects have been done in co-operation with none-profit organizations. The students’ perspective is very important and is therefore included in this study. The students from the bachelor programme as well as alumni have participated in the survey. The student survey focuses on expectations, experiences, and reflections from the interaction with the companies. The survey also includes questions related to acquired skills and abilities, limitations and difficulties, as well as job opportunities after the graduation.

Boken vänder sig till elever i gymnasieskolan, studenter i högskoleutbildningen, samt en miljöintresserad allmänhet.

Innehållet diskuteras i förhållande till Läroplan för grundskolan, förskoleklassen och fritidshemmet (Lgr 11).Boken kan, gärna i kombination med boken Naturvetenskapens bärande idéer i praktiken, användas både som kurslitteratur för blivande lärare och som ämnesfördjupning för verksamma lärare.Den 3:e upplagan har reviderats i förhållande till ändringarna i kursplanerna 2020.

Alla har vi väl förundrats över barns nyfikenhet och goda observationsförmåga när de möter naturvetenskapliga fenomen. Många förskollärare berättar också att det är tacksamt att arbeta med naturvetenskap. Ämnesområdet är stort och det kan vara svårt att som förskollärare få en överblick och veta vad man ska läsa in sig på för att få idéer till relevanta uppgifter att göra tillsammans med barnen.Den här boken handlar om de bärande idéerna i naturvetenskap och är tänkt att stödja förskolläraren i strävan att få grepp om det viktigaste innehållet. Ambitionen är att dra upp de stora linjerna snarare än att ge en heltäckande beskrivning. Exempel från vardagliga sammanhang används för att visa på bärkraften i dessa idéer.Den nya upplagan är reviderad i enlighet med förskolans nya läroplan (Lpfö 18).

Childhood collecting in nature : quality experience in important places

- A need for a more specific understanding of childhood geographies has motivated an investigation of one activity, childhood collecting in nature. This study examined collecting behavior, places of collecting, and the relationship of these places to environmental connectedness in adulthood. Topophilia is presented as a guide to help consider why children collect in nature and to expand upon a limited understanding of collecting behavior. These ideas are explored with a mixed-method design strategy involving surveys and semi-structured interviews with a sample of Swedish university students. Results show collecting in nature to be a widespread, meaningful, and memorable experience in the formative years of participants. Results also demonstrate potential support for topophilia as a way to understand the childhood collecting nature phenomenon. Implications include recognition of the importance of family to support children’s engagement in the natural world and proximate access to nature as a critical aspect of childhood experience.

Inspiring the outdoor experience : does the path through a nature center lead out the door?

- This study investigates the visitor experience at a Swedish nature center within aUNESCO biosphere reserve. The question of whether this interpretive facility succeedsin motivating the visitor to get outdoors for a direct experience of nature is explored. Useof the environmental connectedness perspective and concerns about diminished natureexperience support the importance of this study. A number of qualitative methodologiesare used to investigate the research questions, including thought listing, phenomenology,and field observation. Results indicate that this particular nature center generallysucceeded in the goal of inspiring visitors for a direct nature experience. The success inmotivating visitors appears to be a result of a number of key variables, including placebasedexhibitry, access, and personal visitor factors. Given the setting for this study, weconclude that interpretive nature centers have the potential to play an important role inthe re-imagination of urban environments.

- Den här boken täcker tio övergripande naturvetenskapliga teman inom ämnena kemi, fysik, ekologi, mikrobiologi, geovetenskap och teknik. Innehållet har oftast sin utgångspunkt i vardagsfenomen som barnen själva uppmärksammar. I varje kapitel får man följa barns upplevelser av, frågor om och förståelser för olika naturvetenskapliga fenomen. Genom undersökningar och aktiviteter som är beskrivna i boken utvecklar barnen sina resonemang och får ökade insikter och ett vidgat perspektiv. Boken innehåller inte bara barnens kommentarer utan en dialog mellan barn och pedagog. Genom produktiva frågor och resonemang kopplade till aktiviteter hjälper pedagogen barnen att utveckla en ökad förståelse för naturvetenskap. Dialogen innehåller också lärarens barnanpassade förklaringar för att illustrera hur man på ett enkelt sätt kan göra avancerade naturvetenskapliga fenomen begripliga för barn.
