    • How does artistic research engage with the concept of local? In what ways can art practice be an intervention into traditional notions of history and culture? How does it engage with local and global identities? This book raises questions about transient art practices and site-specific works within communities, as well as art and research based experiences localized in urban and rural spaces, within the body and memory. Being There is a wide-ranging anthology that demonstrates the field of artistic research has never been stronger. The essays and meditations are by visual artists, writers, performers, filmmakers, historians, sound artists, and activists who have worked together in the Nordic Summer University and who share a desire to unite their creative practices with critical enquiry. Their contributions were generated within twice-yearly symposia that moved between Nordic and Baltic countries over a three year cycle of practice-based research. Some contributions are enigmatic meditations on place, whilst others, paradoxically, address the question of what is local through the notion of the nomadic. Whether describing quests of individual artists, or relating to collective endeavours, these works are engaged with the spaces in between. Each offers the reader a thoughtful encounter with the aesthetic, and the political, within a myriad of art practices across a rapidly evolving Europe.     • ABSTRACT Mapping concerning newly arrived students’ knowledge in sloyd Skolverket is developing a mapping* material for newly arrived students** concerning their knowledge in all subjects. The assignment concerning Sloyd (and Art), located at Göteborgs universitet. The assignment includes many challenges. We will present our way of working with this material and how this will be implemented. We would like to discuss: • Is it possible to map skills if students does not know the Swedish language; will this be an obstacle for learning and performing the subject? • If it’s possible for the student to show his or her knowledge and abilities will this mean that the student is able to participate in further education? Or does this require skills in the Swedish language, social or cultural skills that is not included in the curriculum? • Is it possible that a creative subject like sloyd can be a resource for newly arrived to integrate and master the Swedish language faster?     • This paper originates from a university course at the Art Teacher program in Gothenburg, where we challenge norms through intersectional analyze and norm critical pedagogy in focusing on the processes where norms create and maintain hierarchical difference. For us this means that we challenge the students through proposing the question: what does it mean to be human today? Exposing them to contemporary art, postcolonial theory and interculturality in close encounter with the unknown. In workshops, artistic explorations, theoretical discussions and essay writing we force students to identify and analyze the connection between art and life. This is a conscious course of actions in trying to situate students in a painful position. A painful position is where the normal and safe begins to crack, when the protection of oneself becomes a hindrance, revealing one’s prejudices. In the painful position we are exposed to our self, forced to become aware of one’s actions of maintaining power structures and traditions. In order to convince students to come to rest in the painful position we try to create a climate for communication where different voices are allowed to speak and be heard, and various lived experiences can exist without judgement. This is a space for communication that is explorative, where contradictions are advocated, creating opportunities to rethink, evaluate and come to terms with strategies for negotiation.

    • Att läraren är en ledare, det är nog alla överens om. Men vad handlar ledarskapet egentligen om? Den här boken tar sig an det komplexa ledarskapet och dess praktik genom att belysa lärarens ledarskap ur en rad olika aspekter. Lärarens ledarskap är en förutsättning för att undervisningen ska leda till lärande. I undervisningssituationen ska läraren på samma gång balansera undervisning, relationer och ordningsfrågor. Detta förutsätter att den enskilde läraren har didaktisk och relationell kompetens samt kompetens att leda grupper. Samtidigt behöver läraren kunna avläsa och förstå de system som skolan omfattar, och vilka faktorer utanför lärarens dagliga verksamhet som kommer att påverka möjligheterna för läraren att leda och att utveckla sitt ledarskap. I den här boken får läraren redskap för att utveckla ett gott ledarskap genom praktiknära exempel, kopplade till forskning inom varje område. I bokens olika delar speglas det komplexa samspelet mellan elever, lärare och den kontext de befinner sig i samt hur läraren kan navigera sitt ledarskap för att åstadkomma ett hållbart lärande hos eleverna.     • As an assignment in their course on worldwide religions, a group of Swedish High School pupils followed 12 biblical rules for two weeks, while another group from the same school just imagined the experience. Groups were asked to reflect and write down either how it was (experience) or how it would have been (imagine) to follow the rules. By applying a semantic test, based on a Latent Semantic Analysis generated representation of the statements, we first found that the semantic representations of the written reflections differed between the experience and imagine groups, and between gender. Analysis of word frequency count suggests that the group that followed the rules were more likely to use words related to their task in their reflections, while the group that imagined the experience generated words related to themself and problems. The results suggest that the consequences of learning by experience might culminate in greater student engagement.
