- The book is based on a study of secret service organizations. Two types of sources have been used: biographies and autobiographies of spies. We have noticed that secret service organizations and standard organizations are more similar to one another than one might expect. The difference consists sometimes in the degree ("the measure of mendacity"), and sometimes in the direction of courses taken. Like practically all organizations in today's global world, intelligence agencies imitate one another – sometimes directly, by sending their employees to friendly agencies to learn, and often indirectly, learning from double agents. They also learn from standard organizations, which learn from them.
