  • Given Enough Eyeballs, All Crimes are Shallow – The Organizing of Citizen Collaboration to Solve an Online Detective Story
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Journal of Technology Management & Innovation. - : SciELO Agencia Nacional de Investigacion y Desarrollo (ANID). - 0718-2724. ; 14:2, s. 59-67
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper theorizes about the organizing of online citizen collaboration. The setting is an Internet forum where people started their own investigations about a crime of animal cruelty. The concepts of commons-based peer production and generativity are utilized to analyse the complex organizing mechanisms of voluntaristic online collaboration in practice. Three general functions are introduced – operational, managerial, and noise – which are intertwined and together make up important basis for organizing generativity.

  • Regulation and technology innovation: A comparison of stated and formal regulatory barriers throughout the technology innovation process
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Journal of Technology Management and Innovation. - Talca : Universidad de Talca. - 0718-2724. ; 10:3, s. 85-91
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Regulation is often mentioned as a barrier to technology innovation in various industries. Delayed market entry, stifled creativity, added activities and resource requirements are some frequently mentioned barriers. The study presented here explored various claims of regulation acting as a barrier to technology innovation. The findings suggest that formal statutory requirements only partly explain why regulation is perceived as a technology innovation barrier. Findings further indicate several discrepancies between stated and formal regulatory barriers and suggest that the majority of the stated barriers emerge within the organization during operationalization and the technology innovation process.

  • Design driven innovation as a differentiation strategy : In the context of automotive industry
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Journal of Technology Management & Innovation. - 0718-2724. ; 10:2, s. 24-38
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Though, in the automotive industry, technology is considered as a source of innovation and development, emerging change in consumer perception has brought industry focus on design. Evolution of this industry is closely related to the convergence of technology and design. In such context, implication of design driven innovation strategy in the automotive industry has potential to be explored and to create sustained competitive advantage through balancing customers’ need, technological opportunities and product meaning. The aim of this paper is to give a holistic view of design driven innovation as a differentiation strategy in the automotive industry and its implication for strategic management through some relevant research reviews and empirical information. On the contrary, this research lacks detailed description on industry practice to provide greater breadth, since it attempts to correlate the strategic concept of design with the dynamic capability of a firm in that particular industry.

  • Dynamic Capabilities Impact on Innovation : Niche Market And Startups
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Journal of Technology Management & Innovation. - 0718-2724. ; 15:3, s. 83-96
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The purpose of this study is to understand innovation of startups operating in a niche market.  Through a review of previous research works, a conceptual model and propositions are developed, where illustration of a company case is used to exemplify this model. It reveals that a research gap exists regarding startups in a niche market with dynamic capabilities and breakthrough innovations as a source of success. This study reflects on the potential relationship between dynamic capabilities and breakthrough innovation of a startup and its subsequent effect on the performance of the startup in a niche market. It has proposed that dynamic capabilities work as a foundation for startup to develop a breakthrough innovation. It also proposed that in a niche market, both core competency and industrial network are crucial for a startup to scaleup, where breakthrough innovation works as a pathway to acquire consumer acceptance.

  • Academic Entrepreneurship - Gendered Discourses and Ghettos
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Journal of Technology Management & Innovation. - 0718-2724. ; 5:1, s. 51-63
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this article, we explore how the academic entrepreneurship discourse is constructed and gendered, based on texts on academic entrepreneurship and interviews with teachers and researchers at two Swedish universities. We show that the global entrepreneurship discourse is met by both counteracting and contributory discourses in academia. We also show that entrepreneurship-promoting texts in which only men are depicted address both women and men, while pictures of women are only targeted to women, often found in 'entrepreneurial ghettos' and conceptualized as in need of support, as less risk-willing and less willing to commercialize their research. Another problem addressed in this article is how to design gender mainstreaming interventions without reproducing such stereotypes. We believe the solution is not gender neutrality, but to move back and forth between liberal feminist and social constructionist approaches.

  • Reconceptualizing value creation with limited resources
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Journal of Technology Management & Innovation. - Sweden. - 0718-2724. ; 3:3, s. 45-54
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In traditional economics and finance the notion of value creation is virtually synonymous with the net present value of cash flows. Such a characterization implies that all of the uses of resource inputs, such as raw material and energy, are known and that their value is priced into commodities markets. It also fails to allow for the opportunity cost associated with the depletion of resources which, with advancing technology, might reasonably have future uses far greater in value than can be achieved at present with current technology. Stated differently, in traditional valuation analysis the option value associated with scarce resources -when new technology or knowledge can be applied to them- is not addressed. In the present work, we define technology leverage as representative of this effect. We then address the problem of sustainability of organizations by stating four propositions and examining their implications for government policy and for firm governance.

  • Gendering excellence in technological reseach : a comparative European perspective
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Journal of Technology Management & Innovation. - 0718-2724. ; 5:1, s. 127-139
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Gender patterns in technological and engineering research careers were explored in the EU funded 13-country study PROMETEA in 2005-2007, including old and new EU member states, and Serbia, the Russian Federation and Chile. Drawing from this study, the article analyses the gendering of key arenas of excellence in technological and engineering research from a comparative international perspective, with a focus on research funding, publishing, scientific prizes and awards, and patents. A central challenge for gender-sensitive science and research policy is how to combine the promotion of scientific excellence with the promotion of gender equality. Exploring the gendering of excellence in technology and engineering research is of special interest because of the strong position this field enjoys in national, European and international research policy and in national research policies, and also because it continues to be the most male-dominated research field. Furthermore, the article discusses methodological challenges of this type of comparative research.

  • Don’t ask for ideas and innovations, ask for what they do : Understanding, recognizing and enhancing (women’s) innovation activities in the public sector
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Journal of Technology Management & Innovation. - Santiago : Universidad Alberto Hurtado. - 0718-2724. ; 15:2, s. 95-102
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article demonstrates how the innovation capacity in the public sector, such as in elderly care, can be recognized and enhanced if the daily experiences of the employees, i.e. what women are doing in their everyday work, are taken into account. Women working in elderly care encounter a number of challenges and have different strategies for solving them in order to provide good care for the elderly. These solutions are often non-technical and non-digital and, therefore, not regarded as “good ideas” and innovations. Asking for “ideas” and “potential innovations” prevents the staff from identifying these innovative solutions since they regard them as nothing special. However, when the point of departure is taken in everyday experiences, it is possible to challenge the male-dominated discourse on innovation and capture innovations. Consequently, this article suggests that innovation activities and innovation models in for instance the public sector should address and be grounded in experiences rather than “ideas”. © Universidad Alberto Hurtado, Facultad de Economía y Negocios
