  • Design and Characterization of Efficient Flexible UHF RFID Tag Antennas
  • 2009
  • In: 2009 3RD EUROPEAN CONFERENCE ON ANTENNAS AND PROPAGATION. - NEW YORK : IEEE. - 9781424447534 ; , s. 2682-2684
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • In this paper meander line antennas with end tip loading, designed for UHF RFID tags are presented. These novel antennas are screen printed on Kapton HN for European frequency band (866-868 MHz) and for North American frequency band (902-928 MHz). Asahi ink is used for screen printing of 25 mu m thick antenna traces which remains conductive even after several times sharp bending of these tag antennas. The results show that the antennas exhibit high performance regarding smaller area, high realized gain and better return loss in the frequency band of interest. These antennas are extremely flexible which give autonomy for their applications.

  • Simulation of a lens antenna using a parallelized version of an FDTD simulator
  • 2009
  • In: 2009 3rd European Conference on Antennas and Propagation, Vols 1-6. - : IEEE conference proceedings. - 9781424447534 - 9783000245732 ; , s. 3337-3341
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • This article is evaluating parallel processing in electromagnetic simulations for computationally demanding application, using developed FDTD code. A waveguide lens antenna which is complex and large in terms of wavelengths has been simulated and a prototype has been fabricated and measured. Simulated and measured radiation patterns are compared and showing good agreement. The approach of using parallel version of Quick Wave-3D software on a popular multi-CPU shared-memory computer has been found suitable for demanding simulations of complex structures.

  • Evaluation of a Near Field Scanner for TRP and Radiation Pattern Measurements of GSM Mobile Phones
  • 2009
  • In: 3rd European Conference on  Antennas and Propagation, 2009. EuCAP 2009.. - Berlin : EUCAP2009. - 9781424447534 - 9783000245732 ; , s. 2207-2211
  • Conference paper (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • In this paper a new tool for estimation of the radio performance of terminal antennas in terms of Total Radiated Power, TRP is tested and evaluated. The tool is known as Lab Express and is developed by the Canadian company EMSCAN.  The results from measurements performed with the Lab Express are compared with of the radiation patterns and total radiated power (TRP) estimates, measured with a CTIA approved Satimo SG24 chamber.     The TRP and radiation pattern measurements are performed on 10 commercially available mobile phones at GSM 900 and GSM 1800 frequency bands. The dependency of the measured TRP on the positioning of the mobile phone on EMSCAN is also tested. Our results indicate that the TRP measured with Lab Express is well correlated with the results obtained from the Satimo SG24 chamber even though the Lab Express equipment seem to over estimate the TRP with on average about 4dB at 900MHz and about 1.3dB at 1800MHz.

  • Compact slot antenna for 2.4GHz RFID tags
  • 2009
  • In: 2009 3RD EUROPEAN CONFERENCE ON ANTENNAS AND PROPAGATION. - NEW YORK : IEEE. - 9781424447534 ; , s. 2694-2696
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • This paper reports the design of a coplanar waveguide (CPW)-fed capacitive folded-slot antenna for the radio frequency identification (RFID) application at 2.4 GHz. The antenna is fabricated on a 30 X 30 mm substrate. Results from simulation and laboratory measurement are presented. The measured bandwidth is 1.7%. Radiation patterns are bidirectional. The compact and uniplanar antenna is suitable for use as RFID tags.

  • X- Ka dual band prime focus feed for satellite earth terminals
  • 2009
  • In: Eucap 2009, 3rd European Conference on Antennas and Propagation - 23-27 March 2009 in Berlin, Germany. - 9781424447534 ; , s. 3085-3089
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • In this paper we propose new technology for combining X and Ka band prime focus feed for use in satellite earth terminals with simultaneous transmit/receive in circular polarization and also with tracking opportunity. The paper discusses the electrical and mechanical design of Ka band choke horn integrated with X band Eleven feed formed by two parallel dipoles over ground plane. The simulated results show input reflection coefficient better than -15dB and feed patterns give aperture efficiency better than -3dB over X as well as Ka band for 50° half subtended angle of reflector.

  • Measuring the extinction cross section
  • 2009
  • In: [Host publication title missing]. - 9781424447534 ; , s. 3510-3513
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • This paper describes a method to determine the extinction cross section for a very large bandwidth in the microwave region. The method is based on measurements of the radar cross section in the forward direction to calculate the extinction cross section. The method is applicable to samples of arbitrary shape and composition. Coherent background subtraction and time domain gating is used for the frequency range [2.5, 38] GHz to increase the sensitivity. The efficiency of the background subtraction and the accuracy of the measurements are estimated.

  • Robot Controlled Data Acquisition System for Microwave Imaging
  • 2009
  • In: 3rd European Conference on Antennas and Propagation. - 9781424447534 ; , s. 3240-3244
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • In this paper an experimental prototype of a robot controlled data acquisition system for microwave imaging is presented, where the transmitting and receiving antennas are immersed in a water-tank. The scattered field from the object under test is acquired by using the robot and scanning a single receiving antenna in cylindrical or half spherical coordinates, while the transmitting antenna is fixed at one position with possibilities to be manually moved to different positions. Careful design and construction of the system has given accurate measurements of incident and total field with a SNR of 45dB. A validation of the robot system is performed by comparing measured and computed data for a sunflower oil object. In this paper an experimental prototype of a robot controlled data acquisition system for microwave imaging is presented, where the transmitting and receiving antennas are immersed in a water-tank.
