  • Phase-Sensitive Fiber-Optic Parametric Amplifiers and their Applications (Invited paper)
  • 2010
  • In: Proc. European Conference on Optical Communications (ECOC). - 9781424485352 ; 1-2, s. We.6.E.1-
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • We review some fundamental and practical aspects of fiber-optic parametric amplifiers (FOPAs). In particular, their unique phase-sensitive amplification ability along with the corresponding ultralow noise figure will be discussed. Applications of both phase-insensitive and phase-sensitive FOPAs will also be covered.

  • Reliable overlaid PON architecture using WDM with shared protection
  • 2010
  • In: Optical Communication (ECOC), 2010 36th European Conference and Exhibition on. - 9781424485352 ; , s. 1-3
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • A novel shared protection scheme using WDM in overlaid PONs is presented and evaluated. A large number of users can be supported and connection availability higher than 99.999% can be offered at a minimum cost.

  • Convergence Comparison of CMA and ICA for Blind Polarization Demultiplexing of QPSK and 16-QAM Signals
  • 2010
  • In: Proceedings of European Conference on Optical Communication, ECOC 2010, Turin, Italy, September 19-23, 2010. - 9781424485352 ; 1-2
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Two algorithms for blind polarization demultiplexing, based on the constant modulus criterion and independent component analysis, are compared. It is found that the latter converges significantly faster to within a given SNR penalty tolerance.

  • Four-Dimensional Optimized Constellations for Coherent Optical Transmission Systems
  • 2010
  • In: 36th European Conference on Optical Communication, Turin, Italy [Invited]. - 9781424485352 ; 1-2, s. We.8.C.3-
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • We investigate power-efficient modulation formats in the four-dimensional signal space that is used by most coherent transmission systems. The sensitivity and spectral efficiency trade-off is discussed, with and without forward error correction.

  • Operational Regime of Symbol-by-Symbol Phase Noise Estimation for POLMUX 16-QAM
  • 2010
  • In: Proceedings of European Conference on Optical Communication, ECOC, Turin, Italy, September 19-23, 2010. - 9781424485352 ; 1-2
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • A symbol-by-symbol phase noise estimation algorithm for polarization-multiplexed 16-QAM is evaluated. We found that it can cope with laser linewidths of up to 2.2 MHz in high SNR regimes, at 112 Gbit/s.

  • Characterization of a pin-TWA photoreceiver in OOK-system experiments up to 112 Gb/s
  • 2010
  • In: 2010 36th European Conference and Exhibition on. - 9781424485352 ; , s. 5621372-
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • A high-speed pin-TWA photoreceiver, comprising a photodiode and a travelling-wave amplifier, monolithically integrated on a single InP chip, are characterized in OOK system experiments. Error-free performance below the FEC limit is achieved in back-to-back measurements up to 112 Gb/s.
