  • LDPC codes for optical channels: Is the "FEC limit" a good predictor of post-FEC BER?
  • 2015
  • In: 2015 Optical Fiber Communications Conference and Exhibition, (OFC) 2015, Los Angeles, United States, 22-26 March 2015. - Washington, D.C. : OSA. - 9781557529374 ; , s. 7121706-
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • We answer the question in the title negatively. More precisely, the FEC limit is invalid for soft decision decoding and low to medium code rates. A better predictor is the generalized mutual information.

  • 2015
  • In: Optical Fiber Communication Conference 2015, Los Angeles, California, United States, 22–26 March 2015. - 9781557529374
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Experiments for transmission of 50Gb/s, 4-PAM using direct modulated VCSEL over 100m and 200m of MMF with partial dispersion compensation properties are presented.

  • Efficient monitoring for ring-based long-reach passive optical networks
  • 2015
  • In: Optical Fiber Communication Conference, OFC 2015. - Washington, D.C. : The Optical Society. - 9781557529374
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • An efficient monitoring scheme based on transmission-reflection analysis is proposed for long-reach passive optical networks. Both experimental simulation results have demonstrated that the proposed scheme provides better localization functionality than the conventional methods.

  • Symbol-by-Symbol Joint Polarization and Phase Tracking in Coherent Receivers
  • 2015
  • In: Optical Fiber Communication Conference, OFC 2015; Los Angeles Convention CenterLos Angeles; United States; 22 March 2015 through 26 March 2015. - Washington, D.C. : OSA. - 9781557529374 - 9781557529374
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • An analytical model to describe the combined drift of the state of polarization and absolute phase is presented. To compensate for this drift, a novel, modulation format independent algorithm is proposed, which outperforms state-of-the-art algorithms.

  • Noise characterization and transmission evaluation of unrepeated Raman amplified DP-16QAM link
  • 2015
  • In: Optical Fiber Communication Conference, OFC 2015. - Washington, D.C. : The Optical Society. - 9781557529374
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Impairments characterization and performance evaluation of Raman amplified unrepeated DP-16QAM transmissions are conducted. Experimental results indicate that small gain in forward direction enhance the system signal-to-noise ratio for longer reach without introducing noticeable penalty.

  • Experimental Investigation of a Four-Dimensional 256-ary Lattice-based Modulation Format
  • 2015
  • In: 2015 Optical Fiber Communications Conference and Exhibition, OFC 2015, Los Angeles, United States, 22-26 March 2015. - 9781557529374
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • A four-dimensional modulation format with 256 point from the D4-lattice (256-D4) is compared to PM-16QAM in experiments. 256-D4 is more sensitive at high OSNR but with a 21.3% overhead turbo product code, PM-16QAM outperforms 256-D4.

  • On Parameter Optimization for Staircase Codes
  • 2015
  • In: Proc. Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exposition (OFC). - 9781557529374
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • We discuss the optimization of staircase code parameters based on density evolution. An extension of the original code construction is proposed, leading to codes with steeper waterfall performance.

  • Continuous-wave nonlinear optics in low-stress silicon-rich nitride waveguides
  • 2015
  • In: Optical Fiber Communication Conference (OFC, Los Angeles, California US, March 22-26, 2015). - 9781557529374
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • We demonstrate CW-pumped wavelength conversion in low-stress silicon-rich nitridewaveguides. The ability to grow thick silicon-rich layers simultaneously enables high-field confinement, dispersion engineering and handling high-power levels without two-photon absorption effects.

  • 2015
  • In: 2015 Optical Fiber Communications Conference and Exhibition, OFC 2015, Los Angeles, United States, 22-26 March 2015. - Washington, D.C. : OSA. - 9781557529374 ; , s. 7122090-
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • We demonstrate, for the first time, amplification of a DP-QPSK signal using a vector phase-sensitive amplifier (PSA). The PSA-based receiver shows an about 0.7 dB sensitivity improvement compared to an EDFA-based receiver.

  • In-Band OSNR Monitoring of PM-QPSK Using the Stokes Parameters
  • 2015
  • In: 2015 Optical Fiber Communications Conference and Exhibition, OFC 2015, Los Angeles, United States, 22-26 March 2015. - Washington, D.C. : OSA. - 9781557529374 ; , s. 7122095-
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • We discuss OSNR monitoring using low bandwidth Stokes parameter analysis. OSNR levels reaching 23dB are experimentally estimated within ±1dB. Simulations show resilience to chromatic dispersion, corresponding to 1000km of SMF for the experimental setup.
