  • Sustaining Sustainability : Investigating the Long-Term Effects of a Sustainability Initiative
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Nordic Contributions in IS Research. - Switzerland : Springer International Publishing. - 9783319435961 - 9783319435978 ; , s. 86-99
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study investigates to what extent holistic sustainability values persist when a sustainability innovation initiative is transformed to standard mode of operation in a Swedish municipality through the lens of actor-network theory. The focus is on the effect of change in sustainability routines, inscribed in IT systems, when governance shifts from a dedicated initiative management to regular management. This longitudinal study shows that information systems can play a central role to enrol stakeholders in sustainable practices, but that sustainability outcomes are closely related to the view of sustainability inscribed in routines and supportive IT systems.

  • Co-creation and Fine-Tuning of Boundary Resources in Small-Scale Platformization
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Nordic Contributions in IS Research. - Cham : Springer. - 9783319435961 - 9783319435978 ; , s. 149-162
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Most research on platform innovation studies the phenomena from a distance due to lack of access. This paper reports from within an action research case of platform development in a small-scale context. The case is based on a regional business initiative with the goal to establish an arena for mobile commerce and stimulate local industry growth. It was conducted in collaboration between researchers and third-party developers. The article shows how the initial phases of platformization are characterized by socio-technical arrangements, co-creation of boundary resources and intimate knowledge communication. The paper contributes to platform research by acknowledging a small-scale context for platform research. It further develops distributed tuning of boundary resources into an intimate fine-tuning process that we illustrate is valid for a small-scale context.

  • A Boundary Practice Perspective on Co-creation of ICT Innovations
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Nordic Contributions in IS Research. - Cham : Springer Publishing Company. - 9783319435961 - 9783319435978 ; , s. 100-115
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Research has shown that collaboration and co-creation among different groups of stakeholders add complexity and challenges to the innovation process. In this paper a study of co-creation in a multi-stakeholder innovation process is presented. The co-creation is explored and described from a boundary practice perspective. The empirical data presented in the study is based on a user-centric innovation project, Free2Ride, where researchers, developers and members of two equestrian clubs co-created a piece of ICT safety equipment consisting of a transmitter (on the horse) and a receiver (application on a smartphone) to be used by equestrian club members during their everyday riding activities. Three episodes were extracted from the empirical data and presented in the paper. From these episodes the researchers have identified four characteristics of the spanning of boundaries in co-creation from a boundary practice perspective. One of the contributions in the papers is a description of boundary practice-spanning. The research approach adopted in the study is the action case approach.

  • Sound Bubbles for Productive Office Work
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Nordic Contributions in IS Research. - Cham : Springer International Publishing. - 9783319435961 - 9783319435978 ; , s. 29-42
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A growing number of organizations are moving towards more open and collaborative workplaces. In these offices workers share a common open space, often with flexible seating based on activities, so called activity-based offices. Most problems in these workplaces are related to sound. Thus, the question of how to design suitable acoustic environments, supporting both collaborative and individual work, has emerged. Noise-reduction approaches do not suffice. In this study we explored the possibility of adding context-sensitive, activity-based sound environments to enhance the office workplace. For this purpose, we developed the “sound bubble,” a prototype for individual work, sonically immersing the listener and generating a sensation of an encapsulating sonic environment. A total of 43 test subjects participated in an experience-based test using the sound bubble prototype while conducting self-selected, ordinary work tasks in their office landscape. Their behaviors during the test were observed and documented. All participants took a post-experience questionnaire about experiences working in the sound bubble, and two subjects were interviewed. The responses show that the sound bubble can enhance auditory work conditions for individual work that demands concentration.

  • ICT and Learning Usability at Work : Challenges and Opportunities for Physicians in Everyday Practice
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Nordic Contributions in IS Research. - Cham : Springer. - 9783319435961 - 9783319435978 ; , s. 176-190
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The medical profession demands training and lifelong learning to ensure patient safety and quality of treatment. Main barriers are lack of time and resources. Information and communication technology (ICT) has proven to be useful to support e-learning, but less focus has been placed on the potential role of ICT as support for continuous learning in everyday practice. The aim of this qualitative interview study was to explore physicians’ perspective of learning and how ICT in various ways can support learning at work. The findings indicate that continuous learning to a large extent is case driven, and that ICT may play an important role and support reflection and learning for individual physicians and for the collective as well. We argue that such ICT solutions must be adopted to and integrated in the everyday work, save time and include learning usability.
