  • Combining engineering and teacher education – ideas and experiences from Chalmers University of Technology
  • 2021
  • In: Bidrag från 8:e Utvecklingskonferensen för Sveriges ingenjörsutbildningar. - 9789178672714
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • In response to the lack of STEM teachers in Sweden, Chalmers University of Technology offers a double degree program in engineering and education. This article investigates which ideas behind the program’s design have been of particular value in implementing the program and their added value. The five main ideas are: involve skilled schoolteachers called master teachers in the education, having many entrances to the program but only one exit, using interviews as part of the admission process, using a competency model to ensure coherence in the education, focusing on concrete work skills at the beginning of the education and later move on to theory and further development. We invite other universities to consider double degree programs in engineering and education and be inspired by these five ideas in their implementation.

  • An Assessment Review of Learning Performance when adopting Augmented Reality in Engineering Education
  • 2022
  • In: Bidrag från 8:e Utvecklingskonferensen för Sveriges ingenjörsutbildningar. - 9789178672714 ; , s. 32-35
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Augmented Reality (AR) has developed rapidly inrecent years and it is about to become a mainstream technology. We are witnessing how emerging technologies such as AR has been introduced and today widely applied in engineering education. The turmoil caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has in many ways highlighted the importance of AR technology for collaboration and remote assistance of frontline workers. Enabling experts to be much more productive in helping to debug problems and resolve production issues remotely. This kind of hands-on support and tutoring opportunities play well into the possibilities embedded in a more digitalized approach to engineering education. Still, both industries and universities are exploring ways to enhance the value-added credentials that come along with an integration and investment of AR. This paper set out to understand what type of assessment that are used to drive learning performance amongstudents in engineering education.

  • Exploring the use of Basic Scientific Concepts in Higher Education
  • 2021
  • In: Bidrag från 8:e Utvecklingskonferensen för Sveriges ingenjörsutbildningar. - : Karlstad university. - 9789178672714 - 9789178672813 ; , s. 10-17
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The purpose of this study was to exploreengineering students’ ways of solving problems specific formaterial technology and thermodynamics. A writtenquestionnaire was used for data collection. Results show thatestablishing an understanding for fundamental scientific conceptsis a process that takes time. The concepts in focus have been partof the school curricula since the compulsory school level, and formany of the students the concepts were still not established. Theamount of time required to acquire concepts becomes especiallyimportant for discussions concerning a broadened studentrecruitment, where a change in prerequisites for university leveleducation may lead to students who have less understanding forfundamental concepts, and thereby contribute to a reduction in thequality of higher education.
