    • This chapter provides a thorough analysis of the changed legal landscape of family law in Europe, as a result of the European Union's legislative activities. Special attention is given to cross-border family relations. The Lisbon Treaty creates new challenges.  The nation-states' legislative autonomy is increasingly reduced. Whereas legal coherence may increase on a pan-European level, it has decreased on the national level.
