  • Trafiksäkerhetspåverkan vid omkörning av 30-metersfordon
  • 2011
  • Reports (other academic/artistic)abstract

  • Doctoral thesis (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • The goal of the Swedish educational system is to offer all students a meaningful and equal education in an inclusive classroom environment. At the same time there are parallel school systems in Sweden, comprised by the Compulsory School for Students with Intellectual Disability (CSSID) and Compulsory School (CS). Students who are not able to achieve in accordance with syllabus of CS and who have an intellectual disability (ID) are eligible to receive education according to the CSSID syllabus. The decision of placement in either type of school rests on students’ parents. It can be assumed, therefore, that teachers are expected to offer education adjusted to each student’s individual needs. The aim of the thesis is to deepen the knowledge about the educational situation of students with mild intellectual disability (MID) through the perspectives of teachers and parents. Teachers’ and parents’ experiences and perceptions are studied: parents offer their stories about their children’s educational situation over time, and teachers’ reason about their work in teaching situations with the target group. Furthermore, pedagogical evaluations are studied to look at how school difficulties in teaching situations are described. The empirical data was collected in one municipality from the middle part of Sweden. The data constitutes of six interviews with parents of students with MID, and also 21 pedagogical evaluations of students with MID. Additionally, interviews were conducted with 21 teachers: eleven CS teachers and ten CSSID teachers. All interviews were analyzed using thematic analysis and using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA), and manifest contents analysis was used to analyze pedagogical evaluations. Theories used were Biesta’s theory on the dimensions of education, the three levels in education transitions by Griebel and Niesel, and the school didactic theory by Uljen. The results show that the educational transitions and the educational situation around students with MID are complex. The transition from CS to CSSID means a readjustment for parents and they express the need for support from professionals in these transitions. Pedagogical evaluations contain individual-focused descriptions and focus to a lesser extent on teaching adaptations. Teachers in CS and CSSID outlined both common challenges in provision of support to all students but also described different prerequisites for it in the two school types. The results indicate that the teaching situation in both CSSID and the CS needs to be reviewed with regard to the school's organizational conditions to offer inclusive education.Keywordsinclusive education, transition, students with mild intellectual disability, interview, pedagogical evaluations, teachers, parents

  • Estimating car use rebound effects from Swedish microdata
  • 2019
  • In: Energy Efficiency. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1570-646X .- 1570-6478. ; 12, s. 2215-2225
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The direct rebound effect for private car transport was estimated by following a large sample of Swedish households (28,876) that acquired a new car in 2009. For some households, this resulted in an improvement in fuel efficiency, whereas others acquired a less or similarly fuel efficient car. The households' travel distances were measured and analysed for a period of 3 years before and 3 years after the car was replaced. This approach differs from previous econometric analyses in which fleet-average changes in distance travelled were studied, often using fluctuations in fuel cost as a proxy for changes in fuel efficiency. No significant bivariate relationship was found between changes in fuel efficiency and annual distance travelled but a multivariate analysis that also included changes in income, number of cars in the household, car weight and car power, resulted in a significant rebound effect of 24 %. Households who bought a car that was labelled 'green' did not exhibit any rebound effect, while households who bought a 'normal' car displayed a rebound effect of 32 %. This could indicate that households that buy a car with improved fuel efficiency for environmental reasons also avoid the economically induced rebound effect. The analysis did not indicate any significant differences in the rebound effect between different socio-demographic groups.

  • Greenhouse gas emissions and subjective well-being: An analysis of Swedish households
  • 2014
  • In: Ecological Economics. - : Elsevier BV. - 0921-8009. ; 102, s. 75-82
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • In the contemporary discussion on society's transformation towards long-termclimate targets, it is often implicitly assumed that behavioral changes, unlike technological changes, would lead to reductions in human wellbeing. However, this assumption has been questioned by researchers, who instead argue that people may live better lives by consuming less and reduce their environmental impact in the process. In this study we explore the relationship between greenhouse gas emissions and subjective well-being, using a sample of 1000 Swedish respondents. Our results show that there is no strong link between an individual's emissions and subjectivewellbeing. We also analyze the relationship between specific emission-intensive activities and subjective well-being and find thatnone of the activities examined correlates with subjective well-being. Finally, we explore a hypothesis put forward in the literature, suggesting that a poor work-life balance, long commuting distances, and materialistic values may decrease individuals' subjective well-being and increase greenhouse gas emissions. Our results indicate that materialistic values do correlate with lower levels of well-being and to some extent also with highergreenhouse gas emissions.

  • Measuring the direct and indirect effects of low-carbon lifestyles using financial transactions
  • 2023
  • In: Journal of Cleaner Production. - : Elsevier BV. - 0959-6526. ; 386
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • This study investigates the net effect of four low-carbon lifestyle options that could potentially be adopted by many individuals and households to achieve substantial cuts in greenhouse gas emissions: not owning a car, not flying, not living in a detached house, and having a vegan diet. We evaluated the direct and indirect effects of these options on the carbon footprints of a sample of 715 individuals. Their emissions were calculated using a carbon calculator app that estimates the footprint associated with their consumption, based on financial transaction data from their bank(s) in combination with a lifestyle survey and data from official databases. This data also provides the basis for a detailed analysis of how differences in spending and greenhouse gas emissions in one consumption domain can rebound and/or spillover into other domains. Our results show that these four lifestyle options are associated with substantial net emission reductions, ranging from 0.5 to 1.5 tonnes of CO2eq/cap/yr each. The results also suggest that, contrary to the theory of economic rebound effects, the indirect effects of these practices are related to further emission reductions in other consumption domains, except for people who do not fly, for whom we saw a very limited rebound effect. The sample has on average relatively strong pro-environmental personal norms, which limits the generalizability of the results and calls for further research.

  • Should environmentalists be concerned about materialism? An analysis of attitudes, behaviours and greenhouse gas emissions
  • 2016
  • In: Journal of Environmental Psychology. - : Elsevier BV. - 0272-4944 .- 1522-9610. ; 48:December, s. 1-11
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • This study analyses the relationships between materialistic values, environmental concerns, and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in a sample of 1004 Swedish residents. The previously established material values scale (MVS) is employed along with detailed measurements of the respondents' GHG emissions from travel behaviour, residential energy use, diet, and other consumption. The developed structural model reveals a weak but significant association between high MVS scores on the one hand and low environmental concern and high GHG emissions on the other hand. In further analysis, however, the correlation between high MVS scores and high GHG emissions is shown to be traceable to the domain of air travel in the first place, with no correlation found, for example, between MVS scores and size of accommodation and spending on cars, both traditional status commodities. Instead of possessions, the status-oriented materialists in the sample thus appeared to focus more on other aspects of their lifestyle.

  • The Gothenburg congestion charge scheme: A pre-post analysis of commuting behavior and travel satisfaction
  • 2016
  • In: Journal of Transport Geography. - : Elsevier BV. - 0966-6923. ; 52, s. 82-89
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The article uses the Gothenburg congestion charge scheme, implemented in 2013, as a case study to analyze the effects and perceptions of a policy instrument directly aimed to change the travel behavior of individuals. For the study, a survey was conducted including measures of commuting habits, attitudes (toward the congestion charge, the environment, automobility, and public transport), and satisfaction with travel, along with socio-demographic and geographical variables. The survey was distributed to a panel of 3500 car owners in the Gothenburg region before the implementation of the scheme, with a follow-up one year later. The analysis use group comparisons and a binary logistic regression analysis and results show that the difference in accessibility of different societal functions using private versus public transport affected the propensity to reduce car travel, whereas socio-demographic variables had a low statistical significance, with the exception of women who were twice as likely to reduce their car travel than men. All studied groups reported a more positive view of the scheme at follow-up, although this effect was more pronounced among those adapting their commuting behavior. In none of the studied groups did the implementation of the congestion charge scheme correlate with any significant change in satisfaction with travel.
