  • Intraperitoneal alpha-Emitting Radioimmunotherapy with At-211 in Relapsed Ovarian Cancer: Long-Term Follow-up with Individual Absorbed Dose Estimations
  • 2019
  • In: Journal of Nuclear Medicine. - : Society of Nuclear Medicine. - 0161-5505 .- 2159-662X. ; 60:8, s. 1073-1079
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Eliminating microscopic residual disease with alpha-particle radiation is theoretically appealing. After extensive preclinical work with alpha-particle-emitting At-211, we performed a phase I trial with intraperitoneal alpha-particle therapy in epithelial ovarian cancer using At-211 conjugated to MX35, the antigen-binding fragments-F(ab')(2)-of a mouse monoclonal antibody. We now present clinical outcome data and toxicity in a long-term follow-up with individual absorbed dose estimations. Methods: Twelve patients with relapsed epithelial ovarian cancer, achieving a second complete or nearly complete response with chemotherapy, received intraperitoneal treatment with escalating (20-215 MBq/L) activity concentrations of At-211-MX35 F(ab')(2). Results: The activity concentration was escalated to 215 MBq/L without any dose-limiting toxicities. Most toxicities were low-grade and likely related to the treatment procedure, not clearly linked to the alpha-particle irradiation, with no observed hematologic toxicity. One grade 3 fatigue and 1 grade 4 intestinal perforation during catheter implantation were observed. Four patients had a survival of more than 6 y, one of whom did not relapse. At progression, chemotherapy was given without signs of reduced tolerability. Overall median survival was 35 mo, with a 1-, 2-, 5-, and 10-y survival of 100%, 83%, 50%, and 25%, respectively. Calculations of the absorbed doses showed that a lower specific activity is associated with a lower single-cell dose, whereas a high specific activity may result in a lower central dose in microtumors. Individual differences in absorbed dose to possible microtumors were due to variations in administered activity and the specific activity. Conclusion: No apparent signs of radiation-induced toxicity or decreased tolerance to relapse therapy were observed. The dosimetric calculations show that further optimization is advisable to increase the efficacy and reduce possible long-term toxicity.

  • Fabrication and characterization of field-plated buried-gate SiC MESFETs
  • 2006
  • In: IEEE Electron Device Letters. - 0741-3106 .- 1558-0563. ; 27:7, s. 573-575
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Silicon carbide (SiC) MESFETs were fabricated using a standard SiC MESFET structure with the application of the "buried-channel" and field-plate (FP) techniques in the process. FPs combined with a buried-gate are shown to be favorable concerning output power density and power-added efficiency (PAE), due to higher breakdown voltage and decreased output conductance. A very high power density of 7.8 W/mm was measured on-wafer at 3 GHz for a two-finger 400-/spl mu/m gate periphery SiC MESFET. The PAE for this device was 70% at class AB bias. Two-tone measurements at 3 GHz /spl plusmn/ 100 kHz indicate an optimum FP length for high linearity operation.

  • Influence of Field Plates and Surface Traps on Microwave Silicon Carbide MESFETs
  • 2008
  • In: IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices. - 1557-9646 .- 0018-9383. ; 55:8, s. 1875-1879
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The influence of field plates and surface traps on silicon carbide MESFETs for microwave operation was investigated. By increasing the length of gate-connected field plates from 50 to 800 nm, it was possible to increase the gate–drain breakdown voltage of the devices from 125 to 170 V. At the same time, the current slump effect of traps in the passivation oxide was reduced. By using a combination of field plates and a passivation oxide with low interface trap density, it was possible to reach an output power density of 8 W/mm at 3 GHz.

  • Recognition of prior learning in teacher education
  • 2008
  • In: ECER,2008.
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    •  This paper is focusing on child minders who have entered teacher education. We analyse the impact of their earlier experiences and informal learning, and how it is recognised during the training process. Our theoretical point of departure is taken in a sociocultural perspective. According to Lave and Wenger (1991) learning is not a separate process, related to individual performance, within the individual himself. In a sociocultural perspective, learning is an ongoing process, between people, and central concepts in the perspective are community of practice, peripheral/full participation, trajectory, and identity. The aim of the study is to describe and analyse the participation and trajectories of child minders entering teacher education. The research question is: How do child minders- prior experience and learning get recognition in the first year of a pre-school teacher education? The paper is based on qualitative interviews presenting the perspectives of participating students and their teachers. The results illustrate how the teacher education is situated in two different communities of practice - the practice of university studies and the practice of work. The participation and trajectories of the child minders are different from those of the regular students. In the practice of work they already have a rather central position, based in their background as child minders. In the university studies, their background helps them to enter this practice - their prior (partly tacit) knowledge, and experiences, from working at the pre-school is central in relation to the contents of the programme; they have experiences from working in groups of adults, which is valuable in teacher education; and they have a high degree of motivation for becoming pre-school teachers.
