  • Teacher leadership for teaching improvement in professional learning communities
  • 2023
  • In: Professional Development in Education. - : Routledge. - 1941-5257 .- 1941-5265.
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Teacher leaders are increasingly leading learning conversations in professional learning communities (PLCs) in schools in several parts of the world today, but there is little empirical knowledge of teacher leadership in PLC conversations. Thus, this article aims to enhance such knowledge, particularly the development of teacher leadership in PLC conversations. Empirical data were acquired in a study of three Swedish PLCs and consisted of six video observations and 24 interviews with teachers and teacher leaders (hereafter 'first teachers'). The study particularly addressed how professional learning and teaching improvement was encouraged in teacher-led PLC conversations, what tended to be missing, and how the conversations influenced the teaching practices of participating teachers (self-reportedly). The results indicate that the teaching practices did not change in depth if the first teachers focused on acknowledging and sharing PLC conversations about concrete teaching methods. Instead, there seems to be a need for informed teacher leaders who consciously and systematically analyse and support teachers' learning processes, and foster a habit of inquiry among their peers. It is suggested that this should include challenging norms and understandings about what it means to be a learning teacher and requirements to improve teaching practices in the long run.

  • Direct experimental verification of shot noise in short channel MOS transistors
  • 2005
  • In: Electronics Letters. - : Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). - 0013-5194 .- 1350-911X. ; 41:15, s. 869-871
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Drain noise current was measured at an extended temperature range on n-MOS transistors of various lengths made in a 0.18 urn process. A comparison with theoretical noise models strongly indicates the mechanism of shot noise produced near the source by diffusion currents, as proposed by Obrecht et al. © IEE 2005.

  • Evidence of segmental articulations : Acceleration determines vowel segment duration in Swedish Word Accents
  • 2022
  • In: ; , s. 156-160
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • This study addresses a one-to-one relation between articulation and acoustics at segment boundaries. The study focuses on Swedish word accents and how a rising or falling tone affect vowel segment duration. The paper explains how segment boundaries are a result of rapid movements of the articulators. In the acceleration profile, this is identified as peak acceleration, which can be measured. The timing of two acceleration peaks (the distance between them is referred to as a posture interval) determines the duration of the acoustic segment. The purpose of the study is to see whether the posture intervals of active articulators correlate with the acoustic vowel segment, even if duration is affected by tonal context. To this end, acoustic and articulatory data on long and short open vowels, produced by 18 Swedish speakers, have been collected. The data includes vowel acoustic segment duration, and peak acceleration of lip and tongue tip movements. The results suggest that: a) acoustic vowel segments can be determined by timing of consonantal articulation; b) peak acceleration successfully capture the acoustic changes constituting the segment boundary, at least for nasal stops; c) laryngeal production affects all orofacial movements, as the tone affects the timing of the consonantal articulation.

  • Contest-based and norm-based interventions: (How) do they differ in attitudes, norms, and behaviors?
  • 2019
  • In: Sustainability. - : MDPI AG. - 2071-1050. ; 11:2
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Setting up a contest is a popular means to promote pro-environmental behaviors. Yet, research on contest-based interventions is scarce while norm-based interventions have gained much attention. In two field experiments, we randomly assigned 79 apartments to either a contest-based or a norm-based electricity conservation intervention and measured kWh usage for 2 and 4 weeks, respectively. Results from both studies showed that contest-based interventions promote intensive but short-lived electricity saving. In Study 1 apartments assigned to a norm-based intervention showed more stable electricity saving (low intensity and long-lasting). Study 2 did not replicate this finding, but supported that participants in the norm-based intervention also engaged in non-targeted behaviors. These results emphasize the importance of identifying how different intervention techniques may activate different goals, framing both how people think about and act upon targeted pro-environmental behaviors.
