  • Facile synthesis of nanographene by a high-yield and scalable method
  • 2020
  • In: Ceramics International. - : Elsevier BV. - 0272-8842 .- 1873-3956. ; 46:14, s. 22861-22868
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The aim of this work was to synthesize nanographene (NG) through a simple, efficient, and cost-effective method. In this regard, a combination of microwave (MW) and shear mixing with a kitchen blender was used. Atomic force microscopy (AFM), Raman spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis were used to investigate the structure of synthesized NG. The Results of the characterizations demonstrated that most of the synthesized NG exhibited OD structure and bilayer characteristics. The obtained results introduce a method for synthesizing NG at a large scale through a combination of MW and shear, in a relatively short time, without any need for purification.

  • Factors related to preventive COVID-19 behaviors using health belief model among general population : a cross-sectional study in Iran
  • 2021
  • In: BMC Public Health. - : BioMed Central. - 1471-2458. ; 21:1
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • BackgroundCoronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has become one of the biggest challenges to global health and economy. The present study aimed to explore the factors related to preventive health behaviors during the COVID-19 pandemic in Khuzestan Province, South of Iran, using the Health Belief Model (HBM).MethodsThe present cross-sectional study was conducted in the period between July 2020 and September 2020. A total of 1090 people from Khuzestan province participated in the study. The data collection method included a multistage cluster sampling method with a random selection of provincial of health centers. The questionnaire collected socio-demographic information and HBM constructs (e.g., perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefits and barriers, cues to action, and COVID-19 preventive behaviors). Data were analyzed using ANOVA, t-test, hierarchical multiple linear regression, and SPSS version 22.ResultsThe mean age of the participants was 35.53 +/- 11.53, more than half of them were female (61.6%) and married (65.3). The results showed that 27% of the variance in the COVID-19 preventive behaviors was explained by HBM constructs. The regression analysis indicated that female gender (beta = 0.11), perceived benefits (beta = 0.10), perceived barriers (beta = - 0.18), external cues to action (beta = 0.25), and internal cues to action (beta = 0.12) were significantly associated with COVID-19 preventive behaviors (p < 0.05).ConclusionDesigning an educational intervention on the basis of HBM might be considered as a framework for the correction of beliefs and adherence to COVID-19 behavior. Health information campaigns need to (1) emphasize the benefits of preventive behaviors including avoiding the likelihood of getting a chronic disease and complications of the disease, (2) highlight the tips and advice to overcome the barriers (3) provide cues to action by means of showing various reminders in social media (4) focusing on adoption of COVID-19-related preventive behaviors, especially among men.

  • Synthesis, X-ray structure, antiproliferative activity, interaction with HSA and docking studies of three novel mono and binuclear copper complexes containing the maltol ligand
  • 2020
  • In: New Journal of Chemistry. - : Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). - 1144-0546 .- 1369-9261. ; 44:46, s. 20101-20114
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The present study aims at synthesizing three new copper(ii) complexes of maltol in the presence of 1,10-phenanthroline-, 2,2 '-bipyridine- and 4,4-dibromo-2,2 '-bipyridine ligands. The structure of the Cu(ii) complexes was characterized by FTIR, CHN analysis and X-ray crystallography. The interaction of the Cu(ii) complexes with human serum albumin (HSA) was studied using various methods including fluorescence spectroscopy, UV-visible spectroscopy and molecular docking. The cytotoxic activity of the complexes was investigated using human breast cancer cells (MCF-7), and the results were compared with the activity of cis-platin as a positive control. The data showed that the complex 1, [Cu(mal)(4,4-dibromo-2,2 '-bpy)(H2O)]center dot NO3, has the highest cytotoxicity among the compounds. The experiment indicated that the quenching process of HSA fluorescence by complexes 1-4 and the maltol ligand is a static mechanism. In addition, the results provided information about thermodynamic parameters and the number of binding sites. The high values of K-b show that the complexes can bind strongly with HSA. The results from the UV-Visible spectroscopy studies demonstrated that conformational alterations occurred in the secondary structure of HSA due to binding with the complexes.

  • Three novel complexes of copper : synthesis, characterization, crystal structure, HSA-binding and docking studies, and antiproliferative activity
  • 2021
  • In: Journal of the Iranian Chemical Society. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1735-207X .- 1735-2428. ; :18, s. 765-783
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The present study aims to synthesize new copper(II) complexes in the presence of maltol, sodium saccharin and 3-hydroxyflavone. Characterization of the structure of Cu(II) complexes was carried out by FT-IR, CHN analysis and X-ray crystallography. Methods including fluorescence spectroscopy and molecular docking methods were applied to investigate the interaction of copper(II) complexes with human serum albumin. The cytotoxicity of complexes was screened for antiproliferative activity against human breast cancer cells (MCF-7), andcis-platin used as a comparative standard by MTT assay. The experimental results indicated that the fluorescence quenching of HSA by complexes 1-5 was a static quenching. Also, the results showed that complex 3, [Cu(saccharin)(bpca)(H2O)], has higher cytotoxicity compared to other compounds andcis-platin.
