  • Nuclear effects in Drell-Yan pair production in high-energy pA collisions
  • 2016
  • In: Physical Review D (Particles, Fields, Gravitation and Cosmology). - 1550-7998. ; 93:9
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The Drell-Yan (DY) process of dilepton pair production off nuclei is not affected by final state interactions, energy loss, or absorption. A detailed phenomenological study of this process is thus convenient for investigation of the onset of initial-state effects in proton-nucleus (pA) collisions. In this paper, we present a comprehensive analysis of the DY process in pA interactions at RHIC and LHC energies in the color dipole framework. We analyze several effects affecting the nuclear suppression, RpA

  • The Drell-Yan process as a testing ground for parton distributions up to LHC
  • 2016
  • In: Nuclear Physics, Section A. - : Elsevier BV. - 0375-9474. ; 948, s. 63-77
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The Drell-Yan massive dilepton production in hadron-hadron collisions provides a unique tool, complementary to Deep Inelastic Scattering, for improving our understanding of hadronic substructure and in particular for testing parton distributions. We will consider measurements of the differential and double-differential Drell-Yan cross sections from FNAL Tevatron up to CERN LHC energies and they will be compared to the predictions of perturbative QCD calculations using most recent sets (CT14 and MMHT14) of parton distribution functions, as well as those provided by the statistical approach.

  • The landscape of W± and Z bosons produced in pp collisions up to LHC energies
  • 2017
  • In: Nuclear Physics A. - : Elsevier BV. - 0375-9474. ; 966, s. 113-123
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • We consider a selection of recent experimental results on electroweak W±,Z gauge boson production in pp collisions at BNL RHIC and CERN LHC energies in comparison to prediction of perturbative QCD calculations based on different sets of NLO parton distribution functions including the statistical PDF model known from fits to the DIS data. We show that the current statistical PDF parametrization (fitted to the DIS data only) underestimates the LHC data on W±,Z gauge boson production cross sections at the NLO by about 20%. This suggests that there is a need to refit the parameters of the statistical PDF including the latest LHC data.

  • Drell-Yan phenomenology in the color dipole picture revisited
  • 2016
  • In: Physical Review D (Particles, Fields, Gravitation and Cosmology). - 1550-7998. ; 93:3
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • An extensive phenomenological study of the Drell-Yan (DY) process in pp collisions at various energies is performed in the color dipole framework. Besides previously studied γ∗ production we also include the Z0 contribution relevant at large dilepton invariant masses. We investigate the DY cross section differential in invariant mass, rapidity and transverse momentum of the dilepton pair in pp collisions at the RHIC and LHC. We consider three different phenomenological models for the dipole cross section and find a reasonable agreement with the available data. As a further test of the color dipole formalism, we also study the correlation function in azimuthal angle between the dilepton pair and a forward pion Δφ for different energies, dilepton rapidities and invariant masses. The characteristic double-peak structure of the correlation function around Δφ≃π found for very forward pions and low-mass dilepton pairs is sensitive to the saturation effects and can be tested by future DY measurements in pp collisions.

  • Inclusive gauge boson production in the color dipole formalism
  • 2014
  • In: Physical Review D (Particles, Fields, Gravitation and Cosmology). - 1550-2368. ; 90:9
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The inclusive production of the gauge bosons W-+/- and Z(0) is studied within the color dipole formalism. Gluon saturation effects associated with nonlinear corrections to the QCD dynamics, which are expected to contribute at high energies, are naturally included in such formalism. We estimate the contribution of these effects at LHC energies and compare our results with the next-to-next-to-leading order collinear predictions. A comparison with current experimental data is performed and predictions for higher energies are presented.

  • Study of dilepton production in association with leading hadron at RHIC and LHC energies
  • 2015
  • In: Proceedings of Science. - 1824-8039.
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • We demonstrate that current experimental data on γ/Z0 and heavy quarkonium production in pp collisions at RHIC and LHC energies can be described by the color dipole formalism. Three different phenomenological models based on saturation physics are used to estimate the Drell-Yan (DY) dilepton spectra in such processes. In order to further constrain QCD dynamics we suggest to measure the azimuthal correlation function C(Δφ) between mid-rapidity DY pairs and central/forward pions. On the other hand, this is a key background for C-odd heavy quarkonia (e.g. J/Φ and ϒ) production at high pT's which can be accompanied by a high-pT hadron from fragmentation of an additional gluon according to the Color-Singlet model (CSM). As a first step, we have estimated the transverse momentum distributions J/Φ; and ϒ in the dipole CSM and found a reasonable agreement with data at various energies. Similarly to the DY case we suggest to study correlations between a high-pT jet and J/Φ or ϒ in the dilepton channel at mid-rapidities.

  • Drell-Yan process in p+Pb collisions at the LHC
  • 2016
  • In: Proceedings of Science. - 1824-8039. ; Part F128560
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • We study the initial-state interactions (non-coherence) and nuclear shadowing (coherence) effects in the Drell-Yan pair production process in p+Pb collisions at the LHC energies. The analysis of the nuclear suppression, RpA < 1, has been performed in the color dipole approach in the large coherence length approximation. The Z0 boson contribution relevant at large dilepton invariant masses has been included. We showed that the initial-state interactions cause a strong suppression at large pT, large dilepton masses and forward rapidities leading to a breakdown of QCD factorisation that can be verified by LHC measurements. The nuclear effects on the correlation function C(Δφ) in azimuthal angle Δφ between dilepton pair and a forward pion have been discussed as well. We predict a characteristic double-peak structure of C(Δφ) for very forward pions and large-mass dilepton pairs.

  • Nuclear effects in Drell-Yan production at the LHC
  • 2016
  • In: EPJ Web of Conferences. - : EDP Sciences. - 2100-014X. ; 120
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Using the color dipole formalism we study production of Drell-Yan (DY) pairs in proton-nucleus interactions in the kinematic region corresponding to LHC experiments. Lepton pairs produced in a hard scattering are not accompanied with any final state interactions leading to either energy loss or absorption. Consequently, dileptons may serve as more efficient and cleaner probes for the onset of nuclear effects than nclusive hadron production. We perform a systematic analysis of these effects in production of Drell-Yan pairs in pPb interaction at the LHC. We present predictions for the nuclear suppression as a function of the dilepton transverse momentum, rapidity and invariant mass which can be verified by the LHC measurements. We found that a strong nuclear suppression can be interpreted as an effective energy loss proportional to the initial energy universally induced by multiple initial state interactions. In addition, we study a contribution of coherent effects associated with the gluon shadowing affecting the observables predominantly at small and medium-high transverse momenta.
