  • Dataset: Alkali Ion diffusion and structure of chemically strengthened TiO2 doped soda-lime silicate glass
  • 2022
  • Other publicationabstract
    • Diffusion kinetics and structural properties of chemically strengthened titania-doped soda-lime silicate glasses were studied by depth-resolved X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy and spectrophotometry.Chemical strengthening (CS) is frequently used to strengthen thin glasses. CS of glass is based on ion exchange of larger ions from a molten salt into glass. Both the ion and counter ion are conventionally monovalent alkali ions.Diffusion kinetics and structural properties of chemically strengthened titania-doped (TiO2) soda-lime silicate (SLS) glasses were studied by depth-resolved X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy and spectrophotometry. The glasses were ion exchanged, whereby Na+ in the glass was replaced by K+ in a molten salt bath, at four different treatment temperatures between 350 and 500 °C.The following samples were prepared and analyzed by X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS): (1) SLS, (2) 4.7% TiO2, and (3) 9.9% TiO2. The ion exchange procedure was performed for 5 h at four different temperatures below Tg (350, 400, 450 and 500 °C). Before XPS measurements, the samples were wet-etched using hydrofluoric (HF) acid to produce samples with six different etching depths. The Raman scattered light was detected in the backscattering configuration employing linear polarization and 2400 lines/mm grating, and a 100x objective lens. Depth profile spectra were collected at six different depths of 0, 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 µm for each glass sample, employing 12 scans with a 10 s exposure time for each scan.Spectrophotometric measurements were conducted before and after K+/Na+ ion-exchange treatmeatment for 5 h at 500 °C, collected between 300 and 2500 nm.

  • GrassPlot - a database of multi-scale plant diversity in Palaearctic grasslands
  • 2018
  • In: Phytocoenologia. - : Schweizerbart. - 0340-269X. ; 48:3, s. 331-347
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • GrassPlot is a collaborative vegetation-plot database organised by the Eurasian Dry Grassland Group (EDGG) and listed in the Global Index of Vegetation-Plot Databases (GIVD ID EU-00-003). GrassPlot collects plot records (releves) from grasslands and other open habitats of the Palaearctic biogeographic realm. It focuses on precisely delimited plots of eight standard grain sizes (0.0001; 0.001;... 1,000 m(2)) and on nested-plot series with at least four different grain sizes. The usage of GrassPlot is regulated through Bylaws that intend to balance the interests of data contributors and data users. The current version (v. 1.00) contains data for approximately 170,000 plots of different sizes and 2,800 nested-plot series. The key components are richness data and metadata. However, most included datasets also encompass compositional data. About 14,000 plots have near-complete records of terricolous bryophytes and lichens in addition to vascular plants. At present, GrassPlot contains data from 36 countries throughout the Palaearctic, spread across elevational gradients and major grassland types. GrassPlot with its multi-scale and multi-taxon focus complements the larger international vegetationplot databases, such as the European Vegetation Archive (EVA) and the global database " sPlot". Its main aim is to facilitate studies on the scale-and taxon-dependency of biodiversity patterns and drivers along macroecological gradients. GrassPlot is a dynamic database and will expand through new data collection coordinated by the elected Governing Board. We invite researchers with suitable data to join GrassPlot. Researchers with project ideas addressable with GrassPlot data are welcome to submit proposals to the Governing Board.

  • Linking Developer Experience to Coding Style in Open-Source Repositories
  • 2021
  • In: 2021 IEEE International Conference on Software Analysis, Evolution and Reengineering (SANER). - : IEEE. - 9781728196305 ; , s. 516-520
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • We, humans, gain experience by doing something for a prolonged period. In this paper, we address whether we can link the use of advanced language features in software to a greater developer experience, indicating higher software quality. The coding style we chose to measure is the usage of lambdas and whether it correlates with programming experience since previous research has shown that less experienced C++ developers face difficulties with lambdas despite them being a language feature for almost ten years. If we established that lambda use and developer experience correlate positively, we could further investigate whether a good understanding of lambdas has a lasting contribution to software quality. Further, we could use it as an indicator within code quality metrics and promote the teaching of functional programming and lambda use in software engineering curricula. To measure experience, we introduce the Mean Repository Experience (MRE) metric, a novel but straightforward way of measuring what we here call repository experience, i.e., the combined assessed experience of contributors in a repository. We use this metric to analyze 500 C++ repositories. The proposed MRE metric shows potential as a proxy for software quality and could further extend to advanced language features other than lambdas. Our results suggest that the developer experience positively correlates with lambda usage. Future research includes understanding how well MRE reflects actual developer experience and further implications.

  • Genomströmning utan att tumma på kvalitén? : Studenters och utbildningsansvarigas erfarenheter av förskollärar- och grundlärarutbildningar vid Uppsala universitet
  • 2024
  • Reports (other academic/artistic)abstract

  • The Dropout Phenomenon : Students' Strategies in Low Throughput Programs
  • 2024
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Sweden faces a teacher shortage, prompting investment in expanding teacher training program capacities and student recruitment. At the same time, these programs exhibit low throughput rates. Throughput in teacher education is a well-researched subject. Dropout rates have been attributed to diverse factors. These encompass individual aspects like motivation, personality, and life circumstances, alongside institutional structure at universities, educational design, and structural factors such as socio-economic backgrounds of students. Students' inadequate prior knowledge emerges as a principal factor for low throughput. Teacher programs in Sweden rank low in entry scores and high in dropout rates. While much previous research has tried to determine the reasons for dropout, we take a slightly different approach. The aim of our study is to analyse strategies among teacher education students for navigating a study environment marked by low prior knowledge among students and high dropout rates. Our analysis is based on 42 digital interviews with students and staff at the preschool and primary teacher programs at Uppsala University. We show that teacher students use the following strategies: 1. Helping each other (in reciprocal or asymmetrical ways) through the education program. 2. Keeping a distance from students who lack knowledge or are likely to drop out. 3. Dropping out of their studies themselves.Employing a Bourdieusian perspective, we analyse student strategies within the context of societal demand for teachers, the position of teacher education in the field of higher education, and the diverse assets individual students possess.

  • The Pseudomonas aeruginosa lectin LecB modulates intracellular reactive oxygen species production in human neutrophils
  • 2024
  • In: European Journal of Immunology. - 0014-2980 .- 1521-4141. ; 54:2
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a Gram-negative bacterium and an opportunistic pathogen ubiquitously present throughout nature. LecB, a fucose-, and mannose-binding lectin, is a prominent virulence factor of P. aeruginosa, which can be expressed on the bacterial surface but also be secreted. However, the LecB interaction with human immune cells remains to be characterized. Neutrophils comprise the first line of defense against infections and their production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and release of extracellular traps (NETs) are critical antimicrobial mechanisms. When profiling the neutrophil glycome we found several glycoconjugates on granule and plasma membranes that could potentially act as LecB receptors. In line with this, we here show that soluble LecB can activate primed neutrophils to produce high levels of intracellular ROS (icROS), an effect that was inhibited by methyl fucoside. On the other hand, soluble LecB inhibits P. aeruginosa-induced icROS production. In support of that, during phagocytosis of wild-type and LecB-deficient P. aeruginosa, bacteria with LecB induced less icROS production as compared with bacteria lacking the lectin. Hence, LecB can either induce or inhibit icROS production in neutrophils depending on the circumstances, demonstrating a novel and potential role for LecB as an immunomodulator of neutrophil functional responses.
