  • A new 3 mm band receiver for the Onsala 20 m antenna
  • 2015
  • In: Astronomy and Astrophysics. - : EDP Sciences. - 0004-6361 .- 1432-0746. ; 580
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • A new receiver for the Onsala 20 m antenna with the possibility of being equipped with 3 mm and 4 mm bands has been built and the 3 mm channel has been commissioned during the Spring 2014. For single-dish operation, the receiver uses an innovative on-source/off-source optical switch. In combination with additional optical components and within the same optical layout, the switch provides two calibration loads (for the 3 mm and 4 mm channels), sideband rejection measurement, and tuning possibilities. The optical layout of the receiver employs all cold (4 K) offset elliptical mirrors for both channels, whereas the on-off switch employs flat mirrors only. The 3 mm channel employs a sideband separation (2SB) dual polarization receiver with orthomode transducer (OMT), 4-8 GHz intermediate frequency (IF), x? 2pol x? upper and lower sidebands (USB? +? LSB). The cryostat has four optical windows made of high density polyethylene (HDPE) with anti-reflection corrugations, two for the signal and two for each frequency band cold load. The cryostat uses a two-stage cryocooler produced by Sumitomo HI? RDK? 408D2 with anti-vibration suspension of the cold-head to minimize impact of the vibrations on the receiver stability. The local oscillator (LO) system is based on a Gunn oscillator with aphase lock loop (PLL) and four mechanical tuners for broadband operation, providing independently tunable LO power for each polarization. This paper provides a technical description of the receiver and its technology and could be useful for instrumentation engineers and observers using the Onsala 20 m telescope.

  • Recombinant alpha(1)-Microglobulin (rA1M) Protects against Hematopoietic and Renal Toxicity, Alone and in Combination with Amino Acids, in a Lu-177-DOTATATE Mouse Radiation Model
  • 2023
  • In: Biomolecules. - 2218-273X. ; 13:6
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Lu-177-DOTATATE peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT) is used clinically to treat metastasized or unresectable neuroendocrine tumors (NETs). Although Lu-177-DOTATATE is mostly well tolerated in patients, bone marrow suppression and long-term renal toxicity are still side effects that should be considered. Amino acids are often used to minimize renal radiotoxicity, however, they are associated with nausea and vomiting in patients. alpha (1)-microglobulin (A1M) is an antioxidant with heme- and radical-scavenging abilities. A recombinant form (rA1M) has previously been shown to be renoprotective in preclinical models, including in PRRT-induced kidney damage. Here, we further investigated rA1M's renal protective effect in a mouse Lu-177-DOTATATE model in terms of administration route and dosing regimen and as a combined therapy with amino acids (Vamin). Moreover, we investigated the protective effect of rA1M on peripheral blood and bone marrow cells, as well as circulatory biomarkers. Intravenous (i.v.) administration of rA1M reduced albuminuria levels and circulatory levels of the oxidative stress-related protein fibroblast growth factor-21 (FGF-21). Dual injections of rA1M (i.e., at 0 and 24 h post-Lu-177-DOTATATE administration) preserved bone marrow cellularity and peripheral blood reticulocytes. Administration of Vamin, alone or in combination with rA1M, did not show any protection of bone marrow cellularity or peripheral reticulocytes. In conclusion, this study suggests that rA1M, administered i.v. for two consecutive days in conjunction with Lu-177-DOTATATE, may reduce hematopoietic and kidney toxicity during PRRT with Lu-177-DOTATATE.

  • Promoting constructive relations between children in foster care and welfare officials
  • 2015
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The relationship between children in foster care and ‘their’ welfare official has recently been accentuated on political level in Sweden. In this paper we will discuss how Honneths theory of recognition can be applied on this relation – which is a very multifaceted one – not least because the role of the official is multi-dimensional. Besides ensuring official policy, law and regulation (the authority role) he/she shall represent the child vis-à-vis other actors’ and institutions involved (the advocacy role), and be a stable and trustful adult for the child to attach to socially/emotionally (the attachment role). The latter is now emphasized in Swedish law.     Recently, in the framework of an evaluation we interviewed children in foster care. When asked about how they experience “their” official most of them show a quite negative or indifferent attitude referring first and foremost to the authority role, i.e. someone controlling and administering their foster-home placement. However, those most positive of “their” official highlights the attachment dimension, indicated by a deeper and more developed relation based on mutual trust. And, such a relation seems desired by most interviewed children. By Honnet’s theory of recognition we may reach deeper insights about how and under what circumstances a professional role that promotes such relations can be developed without undermining the authority role of the welfare official. The theory elucidates three types of recognition-relations needed for an individual to develop a positive identity: through primary relations of mutual emotional attachment self-confidence of importance for being able to articulate personal needs is developed. Through legal relations the individual is recognized as an adequate partner in interaction, i.e. as a person entitled to the same legal status and treatment as all other persons (universal dimension). This infuses self-respect. In complement to this – to care and legal recognition – the individual needs to be recognized for unique capacities and achievements via belonging to a community of shared values. The paper discusses if, how and what the welfare official can offer here on the basis of his/hers position in the welfare bureaucracy.

  • Doctoral thesis (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • The aim of this thesis is to study the intersection of rural areas, ageing and care. It is  based on interviews with elderly and caregivers carried out in the municipality of Heby in the middle of Sweden. Care is given a broad definition and includes help with many daily activities given by family members, the public sector, the private sector, voluntary organisations and neighbours. The studied rural area is described as filled with care, as there exist people with care needs and caregivers from several sectors. Together the elderly and their caregivers create a landscape of care which they strive to describe as characterized by mutual dependency and carefulness, as well as created between formal and informal relationships. The different care givers are dependent on, complement and sometimes exclude each other. With an increasing trend with ageing in place, the own home is becoming more Important for the rural aged. This creates special careneeds, and reshapes the home physically and gives it and the local community a specific meaning. The own home and its surroundings are seen as consisting of physical features, social relationships and memories of the lived life. The own home is both seen as a place where the elderly can be independent and as a place where they are dependent, which defines the home as a contradictory place. The study wants to contribute to a more developed theoretical understanding of the rural with an age and care perspective. Above all it is stressed that the rural is filled with care relations. Also it is stated that the elderly live in a constantly changing rural society and that the rural is placed between a material and social understanding respectively between the concepts of periphery and center.

  • Ultrasound measurements of subcutaneous adipose tissue in infants are reproducible
  • 1999
  • In: Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition - Jpgn. - 1536-4801. ; 28:5, s. 492-494
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the ultrasound technique for measuring subcutaneous adipose tissue in infants. METHODS: Twenty infants were investigated at 3, 6, and 12 months of age. All measurements were made by the same investigator in triplicate on the left side of the body at the triceps and subscapular anatomic landmarks and at the abdomen and thigh. An ultrasound system equipped with a linear 7.0-MHz transducer was used. RESULTS: The intraclass correlation coefficients were 0.88 to 0.99. Random errors ranged from 0.01 to 0.19 mm. For log-transformed values, the random error ranged from 2.4% to 5.7%. CONCLUSIONS: Measurements of subcutaneous fat in infants using ultrasound are reproducible when performed by the same observer.

  • Correlation as a method to assess electricity users' contributions to grid peak loads : A case study
  • 2024
  • In: Energy. - : Elsevier. - 0360-5442 .- 1873-6785. ; 288
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Flexibility has increasingly gained attention within the field of electrification and energy transition where a common objective is to reduce the electricity consumption peaks. However, flexibility can increase the risk of grid congestion depending on where and when and it is used, thus an overall system perspective needs to be considered to ensure an effective energy transition. This paper presents a framework to assess electricity users' contributions to grid load peaks by splitting electricity consumption data into subsets based on time and temperature. The data in each subset is separately correlated with the grid load using three correlation measures to assess how the user's consumption changes at the same time as typical grid peak loads occur. The framework is implemented on four different types of business activities at Uppsala municipality in Sweden, which is a large public entity, to explore their behaviors and assess their grid peak load contributions. The results of this study conclude that all four activities generally contribute to the grid peak loads, but that differences exist. These differences are not visible without splitting the data, and not doing so can lead to unrepresentative conclusions. The presented framework can identify activities that contribute the most to unfavorable grid peaks, providing a tool for decision-makers to enable an accelerated energy transition.
