  • A MATLAB Function for Plotting Phase Planes Interactively
  • 1992
  • Reports (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • A MATLAB-function serving as a sort of graphical interface to the MATLAB ODE-solver ode45 is presented. The main use of it is to facilitate phase plane analysis of nonlinear 2-D systems via simulation. The numerical integration of the system is mouse-operated via the ginput-function. After each choice of initial value a simulation is made and plotted in the phase plane.

  • A Short Maple Primer
  • 1992
  • Reports (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • Maple is a nice and powerful computer algebra system. There is also a very readable manual for Maple. However, many people do not do symbolic calculations every day and may need to use the program only occasionally. This is a manual for those people. It is totally incomplete, it has examples instead of general syntax description of the commands, it only accounts for a small fraction of the existing functions. The basic idea is: look here for the function you need, and if there is not enough information about it here (there typically won't be) use the on-line documentation or read the real manual. The Maple-version described here is version V. Caveat: since the functions are mostly explained by examples, most of them have more facilities and are more powerful than it appears here.

  • An Algorithm for Finding Periodic Solutions to Systems of Nonlinear Difference Equations
  • 1991
  • In: Proceedings of the 30th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control. - Linköping : Linköping University. - 0780304500 ; , s. 2889-2990 vol.3
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • An algorithm for finding all N-periodic solutions to systems of nonlinear difference equations is given. The algorithm is based on elimination theory, and in special Gröbner bases. It is applicable to polynomial systems and can handle indeterminate parameters in the system equations. The system is not required to be in state space form; implicit equations are allowed.

  • Applications of Constructive Algebra to Control Problems
  • 1990
  • Licentiate thesis (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • Constructive algebra consists in solving algebraic problems algorithmically. This thesis consists of two parts; In the first part constructive methods in commutitaive and differential algebra are presented and then compared. In the second part is is showed how constructive algebraic methods, and in particular Gröbner bases, can be applied to some problems in control theory. These problems include design of regulators for linear systems, finding maximal level surfaces of Lyapunov functions and solving the equations that arise in the harmonic balancing method. The methods proposed are illustrated by concrete examples.
