  • Att arbeta med systemutveckling
  • 2019. - 1
  • Book (other academic/artistic)abstract

  • Accidental ventures - A materialist reading of opportunity and entrepreneurial potential
  • 2008
  • In: Scandinavian Journal of Management. - : Elsevier BV. - 0956-5221 .- 1873-3387. ; 24:2, s. 94-102
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Arguably, one of the unspoken philosophical bases of entrepreneurship studies is an unreflected metaphysical idealism, which can be seen in the way in which concepts such as "entrepreneurial potential" have been used in the field. Here, we critique this idealism by presenting a materialist reading of three unlikely entrepreneurial successes, and discuss how theorizing these could be improved by working with notions of arbitrariness, accidents, and "dumb luck". The paper thus forms a philosophical critique of the field, and presents a recontextualization of how entrepreneurial, potential, opportunity discovery, and success can be understood.

  • An overview of the Sender Policy Framework (SPF) as an anti-phising mechanism
  • 2007
  • In: Internet Research. - : Emerald. - 1066-2243. ; 17:2, s. 169-179
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Purpose-The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of the Sender Policy Framework (SPF) and discuss its merits for adoption as an anti-phishing mechanism. Design/methodology/approach-All of the active domains in the se zone were probed to determine if they have an SPF-policy. This data collection step is combined with a theoretical discussion of the SPF standard and related initiatives. Findings-This paper finds that the adoption ratio is very low. Few seem to be interested in deploying it, despite it being designed for easy adoption and being consistently implemented in several popular anti-spam solutions. Practical implications-The paper shows that despite the low adoption-ratio the standard merits implementation by IT/IS managers and software vendors. Originality/value-This paper analyzes the adoption ratio, which is valuable both for software vendors and endorsers of the standard. It also provides an over-view of the standard itself as an attempt to avoid common misconceptions about the role of the standard and its relation to other anti-spam initiatives.

  • Open source athletes
  • 2007
  • In: First Monday. - : University of Illinois Libraries. - 1396-0466. ; 12:4
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The open source development model has often been treated by academic research as a new and unique model of production, fundamentally differing from previous known and accepted economic models. This paper explores a possible metaphor between open source and athletics as a way to increase our understanding of the open source phenomenon. Open source development has a great similarity of amateur and professional athletics. Properties such as the importance of a community, sportsmanship and fair play are important in both areas. By comparing open source developers (OSD) with athletes, we see that many commonly regarded unique features of OSD may already be existent in other parts of our economy. A greater understanding and previous research of business models, coaching and motivation in athletics might therefore provide useful models of explanation in the field of open source research as well.

  • Samarbete utan gemensamma mål : Att styra och stimulera innovation
  • 2010
  • Doctoral thesis (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • In Sweden, three of the four largest institutional research funders have the explicit goal to not only support research but also to stimulate economic growth. How this should be done in practice, however, is more uncertain. Often used theories, e.g. triple helix, national innovation systems and clusters, are all based on the notion that different skills and organizations should be combined in dynamic partnerships in order to shorten the time from research to application. In this dissertation, I present how an R&D program with the requirement to both produce valuable research results and to stimulate innovation was put into practice. The program is explored from multiple levels of analysis. Based on the case, it is showed how innovation policy acts as an organizing force on its environment and that it affects the organization of R&D activities. This dissertation identifies problems that arise and investigates how the process can be improved in order to meet the objectives of stimulating innovation and growth. By applying the ideas of Serres and Luhmann, using the term innovation in these instances can be regarded as a form of parasite, which affects the system as such. I argue that this can be a fruitful way of conceptualizing how we can strive to manage closed systems that are otherwise challenging to govern. We can develop the debate on how to stimulate innovation by shifting the perspective from a sequential top-down process in which policy is being implemented to have a planned effect (and where any deviation constitutes an unsuccessful implementation), to discuss how we can disrupt a system in a particular direction. Based on the empirical data, I explore and analyze a number of identified events that will be rewarding for professionals working with similar efforts or are planning further research in this area. Among other things, it is demonstrated how a process perspective can be a rewarding way to study not only structural aspects but also seize the dynamics of the system. I demonstrate that this perspective better allows us to understand which aspects are important for stimulating innovation. The dissertation further discusses the concept of dual technologies, intellectual property, applied research and the conflict between different levels of innovation.

  • Bio-methane upgrading of pyrolysis gas from charcoal production
  • 2013
  • In: Energy Conversion and Management. - : Elsevier BV. - 0196-8904 .- 1879-2227. ; 3, s. 66-73
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • This article presents a novel route for bio-methane synthesis utilizing pyrolysis gas from charcoal production. It is a retrofit option that may increase overall process efficiency in charcoal production while adding a valuable product. The pyrolysis gas from charcoal production can be used for bio-methane production instead of burning, while the required heat for the charcoal production is supplied by additional biomass. The aim is to evaluate the energy efficiency of bio-methane upgrading from two types of charcoal plants, with and without recovery of liquid by-products (bio-oil). Aspen simulations and calculations of the energy and mass balances are used to analyse the system. The yield of bio-methane compared to the import of additional biomass is estimated to be 81% and 85% (biomass to bio-methane yield) for the syngas case and the pyrolysis vapour case, respectively. When the biomass necessary to produce the needed electricity (assuming ηel = 33%) is included, the yields amount to 65% and 73%. The results show that the suggested process is a competitive production route for methane from lignocellulosic biomass.
