- O objetivo deste artigo é apresentar elementos para uma descrição semântica dos verbos modais do português no âmbito de uma teoria de ação capaz de captar até nuances de verbos quase sinônimos e evidenciando sua função discursiva, i.e. designar objetivosacionais (p.ex. querer, desejar, pretender, ir), para caracterizar alternativas acionais elegíveis (p.ex. poder, saber, ser capaz de), para ponderar alternativas acionais (p.ex.dever, ter de, ter que, precisar, convir, urgir) ou avaliá-las (p.ex. valer, importar) ou, nouso epistêmico, para marcar inferências ou especificar a categoria da fonte dainformação. Mostrar-se-á no exemplo do uso de verbos modais em manchetes de jornale textos argumentativos que os verbos modais - devido à sua semântica abstrata -implicam um maior envolvimento mental do ouvinte/ leitor e são assim um meiolingüístico para criar interesse em ler o artigo em questão, ou no caso de textos argumentativos, para argumentar de maneira nuançada, sem que o autor apareça explicitamente no texto como instância de avaliação, mas permitindo envolver o leitor mentalmente no raciocínio do autor.

- Dans le cadre du projet de recherche K2 "Interprétation à l'Hôpital" du Centre de Recherche Collaboratrice 538 "Plurilinguisme" à l'Université Hambourg (1990-2005) dirigé par Kristin Bührig ont été enregistrées, entre autres, quelques conversations entre un médecin allemand et un patient hispanophone, mais non-germanophone d'Amérique Latine, interpretées par une infirmière d'origine portugaise luso- et germanophone (mais pas hispanophone) qui agit comme interprète ad hoc, non-professionnelle.L'article analyse l'impact de l'interprétation et de la semi-comunication entre le pacient et son interprète sur l'interaction entre le médecin et le patient, ainsi que celui sur la structure de la conversation.

- The paper focusses on the forms and speech acts of address used by the candidates of the first TV-debate of the second ballot of the 2006 Brazilian presidential elections from a discursive point of view. The analysis shows that as pointed out by Oliveira (1995, 2006b) the richness of address forms in Portuguese requires another approach than the rather static model of Brown/Gilman (1960) can offer. The data show that the chosen forms are the result of a calculated strategic choice and that in the debate there is a more fundamental choice between addressing, address avoiding and delocutio in praesentia. Hence, the fact of using a certain form as well as the switching from protocol address forms (vossa excelência) to proximity forms (você, cê) and vice versa can be retraced to particular interactional and discursive events.
