  • PILAR : A Federation of VISIR Remote Laboratory Systems for Educational Open Activities
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of 2018 IEEE International Conference on Teaching, Assessment, and Learning for Engineering, TALE 2018. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc.. - 9781538665220 ; , s. 134-141
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Social demands have promoted an educational approach based on an 'anywhere and anytime' premise. Remote laboratories have emerged as the answer to the demands of technical educational areas for adapting themselves to this scenario. The result has not only benefit distance learning students but has provided new learning scenarios both for teachers and students as well as allowing a flexible approach to experimental topics. However, as any other solution for providing practical scenarios (hands-on labs, virtual labs or simulators), remote labs face several constraints inherited from the subsystems of its deployment - hardware (real instruments, equipment and scenario) and software (analog/digital conversions, communications, workbenches, etc.}. This paper describes the Erasmus+ project Platform Integration of Laboratories based on the Architecture of visiR (PILAR) which deals with several units of the federation installed in different educational institutions and devoted to analog electronics and electrical circuits. Based on the limitations of remote labs, the need for the federation will be justified and its benefits will be described by taking advantage of its strengths. The challenges that have come up during the different stages and the different approaches to design are also going to be described and analyzed. © 2018 IEEE.

  • Multi-Parton Interactions at the LHC
  • 2011
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • We review the recent progress in the theoretical description and experimental observation of multiple parton interactions. Subjects covered include experimental measurements of minimum bias interactions and of the underlying event, models of soft physics implemented in Monte Carlo generators, developments in the theoretical description of multiple parton interactions and phenomenological studies of double parton scattering. This article stems from contributions presented at the Helmholtz Alliance workshop on ”Multi-Parton Interactions at the LHC”, DESY Hamburg, 13-15 September 2010.

  • Membrane-Less Biofuel Cell Based on Cellobiose Dehydrogenase (Anode)/Laccase (Cathode) Wired via Specific Os-Redox Polymers
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Fuel Cells. - : Wiley. - 1615-6854 .- 1615-6846. ; 9:1, s. 53-62
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A membrane-free biofuel cell (BFC) is reported based on enzymes wired to graphite electrodes by means of Os-complex modified redox polymers. For the anode cellobiose dehydrogenase (CDH) is used as a biocatalyst whereas for the cathode a laccase was applied. This laccase is a high-potential laccase and hence able to reduce O-2 to H2O at a formal potential higher than +500 mV versus Ag/AgCl. In order to establish efficient electrochemical contact between the enzymes and graphite electrodes electrodeposition polymers containing Os-complex with specifically designed monomer compositions and formal potentials of the coordinatively bound Os-complex were synthesised and used to wire the enzymes to the electrodes. The newly designed CDH/Os-redox polymer anode was characterised at different pH values and optimised with respect to the nature of the polymer and the enzyme-to-polymer ratio. The resulting BFC was evaluated running on beta-lactose as a fuel and air/O-2 as an oxidising agent. The power output, the maximum current density and the electromotor force (E-emf) were found to be affected by the pH value, resulting in a maximum power output of 1.9 mu W cm(-2) reached at pH 4.3, a maximum current density of about 13 mu A cm(-2) at pH 3.5, and the highest E-emf approaching 600 mV at pH 4.0.

  • Development of hybrid organic-inorganic materials for efficient charging/discharging in electrochemical and photoelectrochemical capacitors
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: ECS Transactions. - : The Electrochemical Society. - 1938-5862 .- 1938-6737. - 9781607682851 ; :25, s. 93-102
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A composite system of poly (3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)/multi-walled carbon nanotubes has been investigated and characterized as a potential charge storage material for coupled dye-sensitized solar cell/electrochemical capacitor systems. The selected material can easily operate in organic media (lithium triflate/propylene carbonate) giving a specific capacitance of 95 F g -1 and energy density of 3.1 Wh kg -1. The combination of the composite material with dye-sensitized solar cell allows to obtain a photo-rechargeable supercapacitor (photocapacitor), destined to work with dies required organic media (here with N 719 dye). The photocapacitor system was built from mesoporous TiO 2 electrode, typical charge relay consisting of iodine/iodide redox couple and two charge storage electrodes separated by a liquid electrolyte. The system was tested under light illumination of 100 mW cm -2 with xenon lamp equipped with cut-off filters eliminating the ultraviolet and infrared part of the spectra.
