  • Vegetationskartan över fjällen och Nationell Inventering av Landskapet i Sverige (NILS) som underlag för Natura 2000.
  • 2004
  • Reports (other academic/artistic)abstract

  • DNA methylation profiling improves routine diagnosis of paediatric central nervous system tumours: A prospective population-based study
  • 2022
  • In: Neuropathology and Applied Neurobiology. - : Wiley. - 0305-1846 .- 1365-2990. ; 48:6
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Aims: Paediatric brain tumours are rare, and establishing a precise diagnosis can be challenging. Analysis of DNA methylation profiles has been shown to be a reliable method to classify central nervous system (CNS) tumours with high accuracy. We aimed to prospectively analyse CNS tumours diagnosed in Sweden, to assess the clinical impact of adding DNA methylation-based classification to standard paediatric brain tumour diagnostics in an unselected cohort. Methods: All CNS tumours diagnosed in children (0-18 years) during 2017-2020 were eligible for inclusion provided sufficient tumour material was available. Tumours were analysed using genome-wide DNA methylation profiling and classified by the MNP brain tumour classifier. The initial histopathological diagnosis was compared with the DNA methylation-based classification. For incongruent results, a blinded re-evaluation was performed by an experienced neuropathologist. Results: Two hundred forty tumours with a histopathology-based diagnosis were profiled. A high-confidence methylation score of 0.84 or more was reached in 78% of the cases. In 69%, the histopathological diagnosis was confirmed, and for some of these also refined, 6% were incongruent, and the re-evaluation favoured the methylation-based classification. In the remaining 3% of cases, the methylation class was non-contributory. The change in diagnosis would have had a direct impact on the clinical management in 5% of all patients. Conclusions: Integrating DNA methylation-based tumour classification into routine clinical analysis improves diagnostics and provides molecular information that is important for treatment decisions. The results from methylation profiling should be interpreted in the context of clinical and histopathological information.

  • Wood We Change? : Business Model Innovation Towards Sustainability Transitions: Studying the Wood Construction Industry
  • 2021
  • Licentiate thesis (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • Innovations based on sustainable technologies have been widely considered as a remedy for addressing societal and environmental problems in many industries. However, the large-scale adoption of such innovations goes beyond technology and requires organizing the business in a way that drive industrial transformations across actors and system layers, such as market structures, institutional frames, consumer behavior, and business values. The aim of this dissertation is to understand how industrial firms organize for system change towards sustainability. The study is a compilation of two papers within the same research context: the development of sustainable technology in the construction industry. The overlapping unit of analysis for both papers is business model innovation. Paper I examines how industry firms combine and complement business models with different innovation types to accelerate sustainable technology. Paper II identifies how a change in the business model and value creation logic that occur on a firm level accelerate sustainable technology and shape the socio-technical system. Together, both papers help paint a more complete picture of the business model role in transitions towards sustainability. The theoretical frame of this dissertation spans several domains: business model, innovation management, and sustainability transitions. Building on a multi-disciplinary premise, the study takes into account the organizational and the systemic parts of the change process by linking the company perspective (business models) to the wider governance of sustainability transitions. The findings underline the importance of business models that combine production efficiency with higher customer engagement and more collective value creation for driving larger-scale transitions toward sustainability. Moreover, business models in combination with different innovation types, such as product, process and positioning, act together and complement each other to achieve high sustainability and business outcomes.

  • Organic carbon budget for the Gulf of Bothnia
  • 2006
  • In: Journal of Marine Systems. - : Elsevier BV. - 0924-7963 .- 1879-1573. ; 63:3-4, s. 155-161
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • We calculated input of organic carbon to the unproductive, brackish water basin of the Gulf of Bothnia from rivers, point sources and the atmosphere. We also calculated the net exchange of organic carbon between the Gulf of Bothnia and the adjacent marine system, the Baltic Proper. We compared the input with sinks for organic carbon; permanent incorporation in sediments and mineralization and subsequent evasion of CO2 to the atmosphere. The major fluxes were riverine input (1500 Gg C year(-1)), exchange with the Baltic Proper (depending on which of several possible DOC concentration differences between the basins that was used in the calculation, the flux varied between an outflow of 466 and an input of 950 Gg C year(-1)), sediment burial (1100 Gg C year) and evasion to the atmosphere (3610 Gg C year(-1)). The largest single net flux was the emission of CO2 to the atmosphere, mainly caused by bacterial mineralization of organic carbon. Input and output did not match in our budget which we ascribe uncertainties in the calculation of the exchange of organic carbon between the Gulf of Bothnia and the Baltic Proper, and the fact that CO2 emission, which in our calculation represented 1 year (2002) may have been overestimated in comparison with long-term means. We conclude that net heterotrophy of the Gulf of Bothnia was due to input of organic carbon from both the catchment and from the Baltic Proper and that the future degree of net heterotrophy will be sensible to both catchment export of organic carbon and to the ongoing eutrophication of the Baltic Proper.

  • Skador på mark och vegetation i de svenska fjällen till följd av barmarkskörning.
  • 2004
  • Reports (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • It is known that driving of all-terrain vehicles during summer in can cause damage to both vegetation and the underlying ground. However, in the mountainous parts of Sweden it is poorly known if these problems are of general nature or occurring in patches. The aim with this study was to make a general investigation into occurrences of vehicle-tracks in the Swedish mountainous areas and adjoining sparse forests, using field investigations, interpretation of color infrared aerial photos and a questionnaire survey. A field survey was carried out at 28 permanent plots of 1 x 1 km by personnel of the NILS (National Inventory of Landscapes in Sweden) program during the summer of 2003 and in 8 of the plots (28 %), vehicle tracks were found. Two of the 8 plots have been interpreted in color infrared aerial photos as a larger area of 5 x 5 km and a multitude of linear elements were found. From field control of the interpretations we can conclude that many of the linear elements visible from the air, are very hard to see at ground level. The questionnaire survey shows that vehicle tracks occur scattered over the mountainous area and also that 4-wheeled motorcycles are the dominant type of vehicle. The answers also show that tracks stay long on the ground and can be seen long after vegetation covers the initial damage.

  • On output of the Swedish education sector : Additional remarks
  • 1999
  • In: The Review of Income and Wealth. - : John Wiley & Sons. - 0034-6586 .- 1475-4991. ; 45:4, s. 535-542
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The main purpose of this paper is to relate the empirical attempt of measuring output from the education sector to theoretical results about the welfare significance of an extended net national product (NNP) measure. We show that economic theory provides a more focused way of interpreting such output estimates, which has not been recognized in previous studies. The paper also contains new estimates of the output from the Swedish education sector.
