  • Molecular junctions made of tungsten-polyoxometalate self-assembled monolayers: Towards polyoxometalate-based molecular electronics devices
  • 2011
  • In: Microelectronic Engineering. - : Elsevier BV. - 0167-9317. ; 88:8, s. 2775-2777
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • In this work, the electrical conduction of planar Au junctions electrically bridged by a polyoxometalate-based self-assembled monolayer, aimed to be used in hybrid silicon/molecular memory devices, is discussed. Tunnelling assisted by the presence of polyoxometalate anions is recognised as the main conduction mechanism for these devices. Fluctuations and hysteresis that are profoundly observed in the current-voltage characteristics for the smallest junctions suggest that the anions number is the more crucial factor in the devices behaviour. Quantitative analysis of the obtained characteristics based on Simmons's model reveals an increase in the tunnelling barrier height as the electrode distance increases from 20 to 200 nm. • Changes in hospital costs for an appendectomy : 1955, 1965, and 1975
  • 1983
  • In: The American Journal of Surgery. - : Elsevier BV. - 0002-9610. ; 146:3, s. 342-345
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • A reduction in the number of postoperative bed days for patients who underwent appendectomy led to a study of changes in hospital costs of appendectomies for the years 1955, and 1965, and 1975. No significant changes were found in the total hospital costs. However, the postoperative costs decreased by 36 percent from 1955 to 1975 due to a decrease in the mean duration of hospital stay. During the same period of time, the perioperative costs increased by 90 percent due to increased length of operation time correlated with an increasing proportion of inexperienced operating surgeons. At present, there seem to be few possible ways to increase the cost efficiency of treating appendicitis.

  • On-chip tensile testing of the mechanical and electro-mechanical properties of nano-scale silicon free-standing beams
  • 2011
  • In: Advanced Materials Research. - 1662-8985 .- 1022-6680. ; 276, s. 117-126
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • A simple and versatile on-chip tensile testing method is proposed for the statistical evaluation of size effects on the mechanical strength of silicon thin films along with the simultaneous study of (from low to ultra) strain effects on the carrier transport. Mechanical results are presented on the fracture strength of micro-nano scale silicon beams, followed with a discussion on interface states and problems facing reliable nano-electronic and nano-electromechanical characterizations

  • Second order effects of aspect ratio variations in high sensitivity grating couplers
  • 2007
  • In: Microelectronic Engineering. - : Elsevier BV. - 0167-9317. ; 84:5-8, s. 1896-2011
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • In the following article we present our developments on how the geometrical parameters modify a grating-coupler sensitivity. Different sensors were fabricated, starting from the thin grating approximation (TGA), where the grating thickness is deprecated. Then, these devices were modified by varying etching depths and duty cycles. The sensors were modeled utilizing the equivalent layer approximation (ELA), and then the coupling angles were measured in the optical bench, showing an excellent agreement between model and reality. The same approximation was used to investigate how to improve the sensitivity of these devices. Another focus of attention was the integration of screen SiO2 layers over some grating paths for in-coupling and reference purposes.

  • Field-effect transistors with thin ZnO as active layer for gas sensor applications
  • 2007
  • In: Microelectronic Engineering. - : Elsevier BV. - 0167-9317. ; 85:5-6, s. 1035-1038
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Zinc oxide based field-effect devices prepared for gas sensing applications are studied. For this purpose, bottom-gate transistors were fabricated using Pd as source and drain interdigitated electrodes with gate lengths varying from 0.3 to 2 mu m. Thin (50 nm) zinc oxide films were grown with the aid of pulsed laser deposition (PLD) at room temperature and served as active and sensing layer. AFM and XRD analysis demonstrated the polycrystalline nature of the c-axis oriented ZnO films with nanoscale grain size (20-40 nm) with relatively high average roughness. Electrical and gas sensing measurements from the above-mentioned devices are presented. (C) 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

  • Vad är god forskningssed? : Synpunkter, riktlinjer och exempel
  • 2005
  • Book (pop. science, debate, etc.)abstract

  • Patients satisfied with e-prescribing in Sweden: a survey of a nationwide implementation
  • 2011
  • In: Journal of pharmaceutical health services research. - : Oxford University Press (OUP). - 1759-8885. ; 2:2, s. 97-105
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • ObjectiveTo evaluate Swedish patients’ attitudes towards e-prescribing, including the transfer of e-prescriptions, electronic storing of prescriptions and mail-order prescriptions.MethodsThis study was a nationwide survey of attitudes among Swedish patients and was conducted as a postal questionnaire. The questionnaire was developed for the purpose of thisstudy and aimed to evaluate respondents’ views concerning e-prescribing, electronic storingof e-prescriptions and mail-order prescriptions from aspects including safety, personal benefits and effectiveness. A study population of 1500 individuals meeting the inclusioncriteria was randomly selected from a database of individuals in Sweden storing prescriptions electronically (n = 5 840 599).The response rate was 52% (739/1429).Key findingsThe vast majority of the respondents had a positive attitude towards e-prescriptions (85%, 628/739) and electronic storing of prescriptions (86%, 633/739), andregarded e-prescriptions to be safe (79%, 584/739), creating benefits for them (78%, 576/739) and promoting faster dispensing (69%, 512/739). Significant differences in attitudes towards e-prescriptions and electronic storing of prescriptions were detected between age groups. Patients storing all their prescriptions electronically had a more positive attitudetowards both e-prescriptions and electronic storing of prescriptions compared to patientswho stated they had paper prescriptions. The most common suggestion (n = 27) for improvement was to extend the information given about the services.ConclusionOur nationwide survey showed that a vast majority of Swedish patients had positive attitudes towards e-prescriptions and electronic storing of prescriptions. However, a need for extended information regarding e-prescribing was identified.
