    • The paper presents new geological, geochronological, geochemical and Nd-Sr isotopic data on the Meso- Neoproterozoic dolerites of the Siberian Craton. New U-Pb baddeleyite and apatite ages of a E-W-trending dyke and two sills from southeastern Siberia are 982 ± 11, 977 ± 7, 970 ± 31 and 972 ± 60 Ma, respectively, extending the area of distribution of the event by more than 100 km to the north. The Sette-Daban intrusions are subalkalic mostly low-Ti dolerites, although high-Ti dolerites have been locally documented as well. Trace element abundances in dolerites vary from typical to E-MORB to OIB with arc-like signatures represented by high Th/Yb and low TiO2/Yb ratios. All dolerite samples display moderately positive εNd(t) values varying from +3.3 to +7.7 and indicating the magmas were derived from a depleted mantle source. E-MORB and OIB intrusions are attributed to the different degree of interaction of magma between the depleted asthenospheric mantle and regions within the sub-continental lithospheric mantle (SCLM) that were metasomatically enriched during earlier subduction events. Available data on Sette-Daban event distribution, composition and duration satisfy the characteristics of a typical Large Igneous Province (LIP). Similar age 1000–950 Ma mafic magmatism is also recognized in the Baltic and Amazonian cratons and can be potentially correlated with the Sette-Daban event.

    • Three species of the family Teloschistaceae (lichenized Ascomycota) are described as new to science from Southern and Eastern Siberia and the Far East. Corticolous Caloplaca saviczii belongs to the genus Caloplaca s. str.; it has C. cerina-like apothecia and green to grey-green, crateriform soralia with a white rim. Lendemeriella aureopruinosa is a saxicolous taxon with a thin grey thallus and small apothecia 0.3-0.6 mm in diameter, with a dark orange disc usually bearing epipsamma and often with a grey true exciple containing the pigment Cinereorufa-green. Orientophila infirma is a corticolous species with an endophloeodal thallus and small orange apothecia, 0.2-0.3 mm in diameter, usually with an inconspicuous thalline exciple. All new taxa presumably have a boreal north-eastern distribution in Asia.

    • Mesozoic orogenic belts fringe the Alaska and eastern Russia portion of the Arctic Basin. From west to east, these include the fold belts of Novaya Zemlya, Taimyr Peninsula, northern Verkhoyansk-Kolyma, Chukotka and the Brooks Range, as well as their continuations onto the continental shelves. The Taimyr and Novaya Zemlya structures were traditionally interpreted as the continuation of the late Palaeozoic Uralian orogenic belt. This is probably correct for Taimyr, but not for Novaya Zemlya, where shortening post-dates Uralian deformation. The Mesozoic tectonic evolution of the Verkhoyansk-Kolyma, Chukotka and Brooks Range orogens relates to the accretion of numerous continental and arc terranes to the Siberian and North American margins starting in the Late Jurassic and driven by palaeo-Pacific dynamics. This history is complicated by the opening of the Amerasia Basin of the Arctic, which displaced the Arctic Alaska-Chukotka microplate from a position adjacent to Arctic Canada towards the palaeo-Pacific. Although the Chukotka fold belt and the Brooks Range both formed along the southern edge of Arctic Alaska-Chukotka, most shortening took place prior to Amerasia Basin opening. The remoteness of this region and the complexity of its geology has left numerous questions regarding its tectonic evolution unresolved, providing rich avenues for future research.
