    • A 5.4GHz multiple-pass ring voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) based phase-locked loop (PLL) is described. For the sake of active devices’ sensitivity to process and temperature regarding ring oscillators, an effective automatic frequency calibration scheme is proposed. A new process-independent differential to single (DTOS) is used to adjust control voltage range and loop gain. The chip is implemented in 0.18-um CMOS process and achieves phase noise of -100dBc/Hz@1MHz and a 40% tuning range.

    • A continuously tunable gain and bandwidth analog front-end for ambulatory biopotential measurement systems is presented. The front-end circuit is capable of amplifying and conditioning different biosignals. To optimize the power consumption and simplify the system architecture, the front-end only adopts two-stage amplifiers. In addition, careful design eliminates the need for chopping circuits. The input-referred noise of the system is only 1.19 μVrms (0.48-2000 Hz). The chip is fabricated via a SMIC 0.18 μm CMOS process. Although the power consumption is only 32.1 μW under a 3 V voltage supply, test results show that the chip can successfully extract biopotential signals.

    • This paper presents a data-aided Carrier Frequency Offset (CFO) estimation algorithm targeting the Wideband OFDM systems. Utilizing 3 consecutive preambles and processing them at frequency domain, the algorithm is robust to both Frequency Independent (F-I) and Frequency Dependent (F-D) I/Q Mismatch (I/Q-M). To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed CFO estimation technique, we conduct extensive simulations based on Multi-Band OFDM Ultra-Wide Band wireless transmission. Compared to the ideal case when the CFO has been perfectly estimated, the performance loss at 8% Packet Error Rate (PER) is less than 0.5 dB.
