  • Comparison of dissolution profiles obtained from nifedipine extended release once a day products using different dissolution test apparatuses
  • 2009
  • In: European Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences. - : Elsevier BV. - 0928-0987 .- 1879-0720. ; 38:2, s. 147-155
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • In order to improve the predictability of dissolution testing new apparatuses have been proposed that mimic hydrodynamic and mechanical conditions in the gastrointestinal tract. In this study tested were four different nifedipine extended release (ER) formulations using the paddle apparatus and the reciprocating cylinder as pharmacopoeial test devices as well as two newly developed test apparatuses: the rotating beaker apparatus and the dissolution stress test apparatus. Investigated were Adalat OROS in strengths of 30 and 60 mg, and two hydrophilic matrix formulations: 60 mg nifedipine Coral and Nifedipin Sandoz 40 mg retard. The results demonstrate that the dissolution characteristic of the ER tablets is strongly dependent on the applied test conditions. The dosage form related food effects for Coral 60 mg tablets that were previously observed in human bioequivalence studies could be predicted with the two non-compendial dissolution test devices. The dissolution of Sandoz 40 mg tablets was very sensitive to all applied test conditions. The stable drug delivery characteristics of Adalat OROS observed in numerous in vivo studies was also observed in all of the dissolution tests. In conclusion, the present study shows that besides pH dependency the aspect of the mechanical robustness may be an essential factor affecting the dissolution characteristic of hydrogel matrix formulations.

  • Kopplingen mellan forskning och utbildning på KTH
  • 2016
  • Reports (other academic/artistic)abstract

  • The teaching-research nexus in engineering education : A case study
  • 2015
  • In: Proceedings of the 43rd SEFI Annual Conference 2015 - Diversity in Engineering Education. - : European Society for Engineering Education (SEFI). - 9782873520120
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The topic of this paper has been teaching-research links at a Swedish Technical University. In summary, the policy documents analysed present the ideal of a close link between research and teaching. However, this link is presented at an overall level, thus not in detail how this link is expected to be accomplished and performed. Moreover, it is presumed that research will have a positive influence on education based solely on the fact that all faculty members will do both research and teaching. Another aspect worth noting is the fact that the link is assumed to be established already in first cycle.

  • Evaluation of feedback methods for improved detection of hindlimb lameness in horses among riding instructors and trainers
  • 2022
  • In: Frontiers in Veterinary Science. - : Frontiers Media SA. - 2297-1769. ; 9
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Lameness, a wellknown issue in sport horses, impedes performance and impairs welfare. Early detection of lameness is essential for horses to receive needed treatment, but detection of hindlimb lameness is challenging. Riding instructors and trainers observe horses in motion in their daily work and could contribute to more efficient lameness detection. In this cross-sectional and prospective study, we evaluated the ability of riding instructors and trainers to assess hindlimb lameness. We also evaluated different feedback methods for improved lameness detection. For the cross-sectional part, n = 64 riding instructors and trainers of varying level and n = 23 high-level trainers were shown 13 videos of trotting horses, lameness degree: 0-3.5 (test 1) and tasked with classifying the horses as sound, left hindlimb lame, or right hindlimb lame. For the prospective part, the riding instructors and trainers of varying levels were randomly allocated to three different groups (a, b, c) and given 14 days of feedback-based, computer-aided training in identifying hindlimb lameness, where they assessed 13 videos (of which three were repeated from test 1) of horses trotting in a straight line. Participants in groups a-c received different feedback after each video (group a: correct answer and re-viewing of video at full and 65% speed; group b: correct answer, re-viewing of video at full and 65% speed, narrator providing explanations; group c: correct answer and re-viewing of video at full speed). After computer-aided training, the participants were again subjected to the video test (test 2). Participants also provided background information regarding level of training etcetera. Effects of participants' background on results were analyzed using analysis of variance, and effects of the different feedback methods were analyzed using generalized estimation equations. On test 1, 44% (group a), 48% (b), 46% (c), and 47% (high-level trainers) of horses were correctly classified. Group a participants significantly improved their test score, both with (p < 0.0001) and without (p = 0.0086) inclusion of repeated videos. For group c, significant improvement was only seen with inclusion of repeated videos (p = 0.041). For group b, no significant improvement was seen (p = 0.51). Although test 2 scores were low, computer-aided training may be useful for improving hindlimb lameness detection.

  • Teaching-Research Nexus in Engineering Education
  • 2016
  • In: Proceedings of the 12th International CDIO Conference, Turku University of Applied Sciences, Turku, Finland, June 12-16 2016..
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The aim of this paper is to study the teaching-research nexus in a research intensive technical university. The research questions are (i) How are the links between research and teaching perceived by faculty?, and (ii) How are the links performed in practice? We use a mixed methods design including a survey, interviews with top management, case studies, and documentary studies of policy documents. The results show that faculty believe in the occurrence of a teaching-research nexus, primarily based on the idea that all faculty members do both research and teaching. Some informants in the study address the need for flexibility in terms of division of tasks. The results also show that faculty learn themselves as a result of teaching. For some, it is more challenging to include research on bachelor level, while some present examples of how it can be done. All informants agree that the teaching-research links are obvious on master level. The low value given in academia to the nexus is identified as one of the preventing factors. Regarding how the links are performed in practice, the results show that beside traditional courses and master theses, other options include project courses, some in cooperation with industry. There seem to be few courses on research methodology, while integrating learning of research processes in other courses seem to be more common. Generally, the research included comes from the department or from the faculty member’s own research. In this study, there are no indications of an academic drift in which engineering education lose the connections to industry; on the contrary, the results indicate reciprocity between links to research and to industry.
