  • Bibliometric analysis of two subdomains in philosophy: free will and sorites
  • 2015
  • In: Scientometrics. - : Springer Netherlands. - 0138-9130 .- 1588-2861. ; 103:1, s. 47-73
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • In this study we tested the fruitfulness of advanced bibliometric methods for mapping subdomains in philosophy. The development of the number of publications on free will and sorites, the two subdomains treated in the study, over time was studied. We applied the cocitation approach to map the most cited publications, authors and journals, and we mapped frequently occurring terms, using a term co-occurrence approach. Both subdomains show a strong increase of publications in Web of Science. When we decomposed the publications by faculty, we could see an increase of free will publications also in social sciences, medicine and natural sciences. The multidisciplinary character of free will research was reflected in the cocitation analysis and in the term co-occurrence analysis: we found clusters/groups of cocited publications, authors and journals, and of co-occurring terms, representing philosophy as well as non-philosophical fields, such as neuroscience and physics. The corresponding analyses of sorites publications displayed a structure consisting of research themes rather than fields. All in all, both philosophers involved in this study acknowledge the validity of the various networks presented. Bibliometric mapping appears to provide an interesting tool for describing the cognitive orientation of a research field, not only in the natural and life sciences but also in philosophy, which this study shows.

  • Exploring stakeholder perspectives to facilitate the implementation of shared decision-making in coordinated individual care planning : [Utforskande av stakeholderperspektiv för att stödja implementeringen av delat beslutsfattande i samordnad individuell vårdplanering]
  • 2023
  • In: European Journal of Social Work. - : Routledge. - 1369-1457 .- 1468-2664.
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • This article explores conditions for implementing shared decision-making (SDM) in coordinated individual care planning (CIP) with individuals with complex mental health needs. SDM in CIP are described as central, although such user centred collaboration still remains to be realised. Research underlines the need for a changed way of working, where user expertise is valued and a balance of power is promoted. The aim of the present study is to investigate the conditions for implementing SDM in connection with CIP for and with people with mental illness. To better understand the context and conditions that can promote such an implementation, altogether 15 participants were interviewed in three regions in Sweden within the scope of a stakeholder analysis. Both hindering and supporting factors were identified with respect to an implementation process, such as staff turnover, differences in work culture and committed leadership. Further focus should be directed specifically towards professionals working more closely with CIP and towards in-depth analysis of the construct of culture in terms of implementation processes.

  • Protection Facing Exports from Sub-Saharan Africa in the EEC, Japan and the US
  • 1989
  • Reports (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • Two main questions are addressed in the paper: (i) how did the incidence of protection encountered by Sub-Saharan Africa's (SSA) exports in the major industrial market economies compare with that faced by all developing countries, and (ii) to what extent protection in these markets might have constrained SSA's export growth? The findings on the first issue were conclusive. On the whole, SSA had a better deal in terms of both tariff and non-tariff protection in all three markets. This was in part due to special preferential treatment, expecially in the EEC, and in part a consequence of the commodity composition of its exports, heavy in primary goods. As to the second question, there was no compelling evidence suggesting that protection in the major industrial markets has been a significant constraint on SSA's export growth.

  • Skyddandets förnuft : en studie om anhöriga till hjälpbehövande äldre som invandrat sent i livet
  • 2004
  • Doctoral thesis (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • This dissertation aims to examine and deepen the knowledge of family member caregiving where the care recipient is an elderly person who immigrated late in life. It also aims to contribute to the knowledge of the complexities underlying informal care giving and add to our understandings of what it means to be an immigrant in Sweden. The caregiver is in focus. The research conducted is explorative and partly inductive. The main material used is a qualitative interview study carried out with family members from different countries who are providing informal care to elderly immigrant relatives. The analysis gives three patterns of caregiving. One shows help from informal caregivers only who are not compensated economically. Another shows help from family members who are compensated. The third shows help from family members and staff from the public care system. Three ideal-typical informal caregiver roles show different positions vis-à-vis the new: “guardian”, “filter” and “reinterpreter of traditional care ideals”. Swedish born and immigrated informal caregivers are also compared through analysis of data gathered in telephone interviews with a representative selection of inhabitants in the County of Stockholm.A philosophy of action together with theory on integration and multiculturalism serves as theoretical frameworks to understand discrepancies and ambiguities in the data. Young immigrants experience different integration processes than do the older ones. They strive to protect older family members from changes linked to the migration experience. Talk about dependence on culture underlines family feelings and legitimates the processes of protection. Preconceptions about great differences between Swedish born and immigrant families are not supported by quantitative data. A conclusion is that protection can be understood in relation both to the traditional and the new, the latter in the forms of meetings with Swedish society where unequal relations prevail. It is a kind of counter-strategy where the range of actions is diminished, and thus it has its own logic. Protection can be loosened up when the circumstances change and the range of actions grow.

  • Nitsche's method combined with space-time finite elements for ALE fluid-structure interaction problems
  • 2004
  • In: Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering. - : Elsevier BV. - 0045-7825 .- 1879-2138. ; 193:39-41, s. 4195-4206
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • We propose a weak method for handling the fluid-structure interface in finite element fluid-structure interaction based on Nitsche's method [Abh. Math. Univ. Hamburg 36 (1971) 9]. We assume transient incompressible Newtonian flow and, for the structure, undamped linear elasticity. For the time-discretization, we use the time-continuous (energy conserving) Galerkin method for the structure, and for the fluid we employ the time-discontinuous Galerkin method. This means that the velocity becomes piecewise constant on each timestep for the fluid, matching the time-derivative of the displacements in the solid which is also piecewise constant over a time step. We formulate the method and report some numerical examples using space-time oriented elements for the fluid in order to mimic Lagrangian or ALE-type simulations.

  • The development of a GPR44 targeting radioligand [11C]AZ12204657 for in vivo assessment of beta cell mass.
  • 2018
  • In: EJNMMI Research. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 2191-219X. ; 8
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • BACKGROUND: The G-protein-coupled receptor 44 (GPR44) is a beta cell-restricted target that may serve as a marker for beta cell mass (BCM) given the development of a suitable PET ligand.METHODS: The binding characteristics of the selected candidate, AZ12204657, at human GPR44 were determined using in vitro ligand binding assays. AZ12204657 was radiolabeled using 11C- or 3H-labeled methyl iodide ([11C/3H]CH3I) in one step, and the conversion of [11C/3H]CH3I to the radiolabeled product [11C/3H]AZ12204657 was quantitative. The specificity of radioligand binding to GPR44 and the selectivity for beta cells were evaluated by in vitro binding studies on pancreatic sections from human and non-human primates as well as on homogenates from endocrine and exocrine pancreatic compartments.RESULTS: The radiochemical purity of the resulting radioligand [11C]AZ12204657 was > 98%, with high molar activity (MA), 1351 ± 575 GBq/μmol (n = 18). The radiochemical purity of [3H]AZ12204657 was > 99% with MA of 2 GBq/μmol. Pancreatic binding of [11C/3H]AZ12204657 was co-localized with insulin-positive islets of Langerhans in non-diabetic individuals and individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2D). The binding of [11C]AZ12204657 to GPR44 was > 10 times higher in islet homogenates compared to exocrine homogenates. In human islets of Langerhans GPR44 was co-expressed with insulin, but not glucagon as assessed by co-staining and confocal microscopy.CONCLUSION: We radiolabeled [11C]AZ12204657, a potential PET radioligand for the beta cell-restricted protein GPR44. In vitro evaluation demonstrated that [3H]AZ12204657 and [11C]AZ12204657 selectively target pancreatic beta cells. [11C]AZ12204657 has promising properties as a marker for human BCM.
