  • Incidence of hyperthyroidism in Stockholm, Sweden, 2003-2005
  • 2008
  • In: European Journal of Endocrinology. - 1479-683X. ; 158:6, s. 823-827
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Objectives: To investigate the incidence of hyperthyroidism in Stockholm County in those patients who were diagnosed with hyperthyroidism for the First time during the years 2003-2005. Design: All new cases of hyperthyroidism >= 18 years of age were prospectively registered to calculate the total incidence of hyperthyroidism, as well as the incidence of the subgroups: Graves' disease (GD), toxic multinodular goitre and solitary toxic adenoma (STA). Eight specialized units/hospitals in Stockholm County participated in the registration. The participating physicians were all specialists in medical endocrinology. oncology, nuclear medicine or surgery. Results: Duringa 3-year period, 1431 new patients of hyperthyroidism were diagnosed in a well-defined adult population (>18 years of age) of in average 1 457 036 inhabitants. This corresponds to a mean annual incidence of hyperthyroidism of 32.7/100 000. The incidence of GD was 24.5/100 000 per year. toxic nodular goitre was 3.3/100 000 per year and STA was 4.9/100 000 per year. Conclusions: The total incidence of hyperthyroidism in Stockholm County was found to be 32.7/100 000 per year. of which 75% had GD. There were a higher percentage of smokers among the patients with hyperthyroidism compared with the overall population in Stockholm, but no difference in the frequency of smoking between patients with GD and toxic nodular goitre.

  • Effects of testosterone suppression on desire, hypersexuality, and sexual interest in children in men with pedophilic disorder
  • 2022
  • In: World Journal of Biological Psychiatry. - : Informa UK Limited. - 1562-2975 .- 1814-1412. ; 23:7, s. 560-571
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Effects of testosterone withdrawal on significant correlates of paedophilic disorder (PeD) are largely unknown. The purpose of this study was to explore in detail the effects of testosterone suppression from degarelix as compared to placebo on desire, hypersexuality, and subjectively experienced sexual interest in participants with PeD. We compared the sexual effects of degarelix, a GnRH antagonist, on men with PeD assigned to degarelix (n = 26) or placebo (n = 26) in a double-blind randomised clinical trial. Sexual Desire Inventory scores decreased significantly at two weeks (between-group difference p = 0.001, d = -0.96 [-0.38 to -1.55) and ten weeks (p < 0.001, d = -1.30 [-0.69 to -1.91) in participants assigned degarelix, whereas HBI ratings did not differ significantly at two weeks (p = 0.07, d = -0.52 [0.05 to -1.08), but did so at ten weeks (p = 0.01, d = -0.72 [-0.15 to -1.29). Fifteen out of 26 (58%) individuals in the group assigned degarelix and 3 out of 26 (12%) in the group assigned to placebo reported no further sexual interest in children at ten weeks (Fisher's exact test, p < 0.0001), an effect unmodified by autistic, antisocial, or impulsive traits, age, age at onset of, or duration of paedophilic attraction.

  • Incentive Schemes and Female Leadership in Financial Firms
  • 2013
  • In: Corporate Board: Role, Duties and Composition. - 2312-2722 .- 1810-8601. ; 9, s. 40-49
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Our purpose is to explore how performance in Swedish financial companies is affected by the presence of a female chief executive officer (CEO), the presence of an incentive scheme, and the proportion of female board members. The results indicate that a female CEO is associated with alower return on equity (ROE) and a lower Tobin’s Q, but we find no significant association between the proportion of female board members and firm performance. An incentive scheme is generally associated with a lower return on assets (ROA) and a higher Tobin’s Q. In particular, ashare-based incentive scheme is associated with a lower ROA, a lower ROE, and a higher Tobin’s Q.
