  • Information Behavior of Humanities Students in Bulgaria, Italy and Sweden : Planning a Game-Based Learning Approach for Avoiding Fake Content
  • 2019
  • In: Information Literacy in Everyday Life. - Cham : Springer. ; , s. 295-306
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The paper deals with the Erasmus+ project NAVIGATE - Information Literacy: A Game-based Learning Approach for Avoiding Fake Content, coordinated by the University of Library Studies and Information Technologies in Bulgaria. The focus of the project is on Bachelor’s students in Humanities who either do not have the skills to distinguish fake content or do not have the desire, due to lack of time and interest, to conduct more in-depth information search. By applying a game-based approach to information literacy training in three European countries innovation can be brought into this field. The results of an empirical sociological survey conducted in the partners’ institutions in Bulgaria, Italy and Sweden on students’ understanding of the concepts of information and mobile literacy and the criteria used by the learners for the assessment of information are presented. Emphasis is also placed on the role of the library as a partner in the learning.

  • 2021
  • In: Proceedings of the Association for Information Science and Technology. - : Wiley. - 2373-9231. ; 58:1, s. 587-589
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about a pivot in people’s practice of their daily life and work, in particular a pivot towards virtual living and working. Sponsored by the ASIS&T European Chapter, this panel discusses the diverse ways in which this has affected different communities within Europe, bearing in mind the varying languages, economic and political situations, and library and information structures within different European countries. Following on from presentations giving diverse perspectives from five European countries, we will ask session participants to reflect on the impact of the pivot on living and working in their own context, their coping mechanisms, and likely impact on the future.

  • Making research data possible : negotiating between disciplinary cultures, temporalities, data policies, professional interests and education and training
  • 2016
  • In: Proceedings of the 79th ASIS&T Annual Meeting. - : International Association of Computer Science and Information Technology Press. ; 53:1, s. 1-4
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The workshop brings together differing perspectives on what makes research data possible. How data is made represents an on-going negotiation between a number of elements. It reflects, firstly, the nature of disciplines and the complex way this is linked to cultures of research data and data sharing. Secondly, data is made across the complex temporalities within different practices of its management. Thirdly, it increasingly reflects the influences of data policies: working at the international and national, down to institutional level. Fourthly, it is also shaped by the renegotiation of professional interests and relationships such as between librarians, computing services, archivists and research administrators. And, fifthly, data is being shaped within models of education and training of current and new information professionals. The panel seeks to bring together a diverse range of participants to explore appropriate theories and methodologies for work in this field, using a conversation cafe format, and based on discussions around the five elements.
