  • Fano effect in a quantum-ring-quantum-dot system with tunable coupling
  • 2006
  • In: Physical Review B (Condensed Matter and Materials Physics). - 1098-0121. ; 73:20
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Transport measurements are presented on a quantum ring that is tunnel-coupled to a quantum dot. When the dot is in the Coulomb blockade regime, but strongly coupled to the open ring, Fano line shapes are observed in the current through the ring, when the electron number in the dot changes by 1. The symmetry of the Fano resonances is found to depend on the magnetic flux penetrating the area of the ring and on the strength of the ring-dot coupling. At temperatures above T=0.65 K the Fano effect disappears, while the Aharonov-Bohm interference in the ring persists up to T=4.2 K. Good agreement is found between these experimental observations and a single-channel scattering matrix model including decoherence in the dot.

  • The methodology of clinical resuscitation research
  • 2007
  • In: Cardiac arrest. The science and practice of resuscitation medicine. - : Cambridge University Press. - 9780511544828 - 9780521847001 ; , s. 206-215
  • Book chapter (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • This chapter is designed to provide a comprehensive, systematic account of the methods of conducting clinical research in resuscitation, in particular, how to set up and carry out a comprehensive and meaningful clinical trial. We will follow the natural conduct of a study, from designing the protocol through data collection to evaluation and interpretation. As an example of some of the difficulties and also the satisfactions of a job well done, in the Appendix we present Professor Wenzel's personal description of the trials and tribulations of determining the role of vasopressin in treatment for cardiac arrest.

  • Phonon spectral density in a GaAs/AlGaAs double quantum dot
  • 2020
  • In: Physical Review Research. - 2643-1564. ; 2:3
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • We study phonon emission in a GaAs/AlGaAs double quantum dot by monitoring the tunneling of a single electron between the two dots. We prepare the system such that a known amount of energy is emitted in the transition process. The energy is converted into lattice vibrations, and the resulting tunneling rate depends strongly on the phonon scattering and its effective phonon spectral density. We are able to fit the measured transition rates and see imprints of interference of phonons with themselves causing oscillations in the transition rates.
