    • Three species of Caloplaca are described as new to science: Caloplaca caesiosorediata Arup & van den Boom, a corticolous species and two saxicolous species, Caloplaca catillarioides Arup & van den Boom, and C. caesioisidiata Arup & van den Boom, all from the archipelago of Cape Verde. They are dark-fruited and have a pale to dark greyish crustose thallus. None of the new species are phylogentically related to the Pyrenodesmia group, but closely related to each other.

    • Pesticide use is one of the most significant occupational exposures for agricultural workers in the Amazon basin of Ecuador. A structured questionnaire was developed focusing on sociodemographic characteristics, knowledge and experience of adverse health effects related to pesticide use, details of work practices, and an inventory of pesticides used on the farm. Of the 112 farmers interviewed, 111 (99.1%) used pesticides. Paraquat was most commonly used (77.4%), followed by glyphosate (65.7%). Respondents had good knowledge about the acute health effects of pesticides and their exposure routes. Risk behaviors were identified as frequent pesticide use, washing pesticide equipment in water sources used by humans, inadequate disposal of empty pesticide containers, eating and drinking during pesticide application, and using inadequate protective clothing. Training and educational campaigns on pesticide use should be encouraged for this cohort, along with suggestions for alternative methods of pest control.

Kondr. & Elix, C. sconensis S.Y.Kondr., Kärnefelt & A.Thell, and C. tomnashii S.Y. Kondr., Elix & Kärnefelt, with caloploicin, vicanicin, diploicin, fulgidin, and isofulgidin. The new combination Crocynia glaucescens (F. Wilson) S.Y. Kondr., Elix & Kärnefelt, containing atranorin, is proposed for Amphiloma glaucescens F.Wilson.

    • Candelaria pacifica is formally described. It is currently known from North and South America and Europe. The species is characterized by a small, lobate thallus with soredia formed on the lobe tips and along the margins. It has been confused with C. concolor in Europe and North America, but differs in having 8-spored asci and in lacking a lower cortex. Candelaria vulgaris, the type species of the genus is confirmed to be a synonym to C. concolor.
