  • The Burn Specific Health Scale-Brief: Measurement invariant across European countries
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: JOURNAL OF TRAUMA AND ACUTE CARE SURGERY. - : Lippincott, Williams and Wilkins. - 2163-0755. ; 74:5, s. 1321-1326

    • BACKGROUND: The Burn Specific Health Scale Brief (BSHS-B), which is the only multidimensional measure to evaluate burn-specific aspects of health status, has previously been validated in several languages across the world. However, the stability of the underlying construct was not cross-culturally evaluated. The current study reports on measurement invariance across two samples of Swedish and Dutch-speaking patients with burns. less thanbrgreater than less thanbrgreater thanMETHODS: In a prospective study, 231 and 275 Swedish and Dutch-Belgian patients with burns, completed the BSHS-B at 9 or 12 months, respectively, after burn. Using a multigroup confirmatory factor analysis, measurement invariance across languages (Swedish and Dutch) was tested. less thanbrgreater than less thanbrgreater thanRESULTS: The results of the confirmatory factor analysis in the total sample revealed that the scale structure for the earlier reported three-factor structure and the original nine-factor structure was adequate. However, an eight-factor structure in which hand function and simple abilities were merged provided the best fit. This structure was used to test measurement invariance across the two language groups. The two-group outcomes testing measurement invariance across Swedish- and Dutch-speaking patients indicated a stable, configural invariance. less thanbrgreater than less thanbrgreater thanCONCLUSION: The BSHS-B seems to function uniformly across both language groups. The BSHS-B can be used to compare cross-cultural results in both countries.

  • Social influence interpretation of interpersonal processes and team performance over time using Bayesian model selection
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Journal of Management. - : SAGE Publications. - 1557-1211 .- 0149-2063. ; 41:2, s. 574-606
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The team behavior literature is ambiguous about the relations between members’ interpersonal processes—task debate and task conflict—and team performance. From a social influence perspective, we show why members’ interpersonal processes determine team performance over time in small groups. Together, over time, dissenting in-group minorities who share information (via debate) with majorities, who selectively engage with them to consider their alternative proposals (via conflict), can improve their team performance (via innovation). The Context/Comparison Model of social influence and its Leniency Contract extension to the special case of in-group minorities suggest a pattern of members’ interpersonal processes that unfolds over time to reconcile factions with the same social identity who hold different approaches to shared projects. Conditional on typical levels of task debate, we predict that: (1) in early episodes, task conflict increases the relation between task debate and team performance; (2) in middle episodes, it decreases the relation; and (3) in late episodes, it increases it again. We explore our thesis using a longitudinal design with a sample of 60 student teams (360 individuals) working together for course credit over five months (21 weeks) to write a first business plan for a new venture. We use a multilevel structural equation modeling (MSEM) approach with Bayesian estimation. We found support for our theory expressed in informative hypotheses using Bayesian model selection. These results were not evident from conventional graphing and post hoc statistical probing of simple slopes against the null hypothesis.

  • Bayesian model selection of informative hypotheses for repeated measurements
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Journal of mathematical psychology (Print). - : Elsevier. - 0022-2496 .- 1096-0880. ; 53:6, s. 530-546
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • When analyzing repeated measurements data, researchers often have expectations about the relations between the measurement means. The expectations can often be formalized using equality and inequality constraints between (i) the measurement means over time, (ii) the measurement means between groups, (iii) the means adjusted for time-invariant covariates, and (iv) the means adjusted for time-varying covariates. The result is a set of informative hypotheses. In this paper, the Bayes factor is used to determine which hypothesis receives most support from the data. A pivotal element in the Bayesian framework is the specification of the prior. To avoid subjective prior specification, training data in combination with restrictions on the measurement means are used to obtain so-called constrained posterior priors. A simulation study and an empirical example from developmental psychology show that this prior results in Bayes factors with desirable properties.
