  • Implications to IS-Design from a Social Learning Perspective
  • 2006
  • In: Knowledge in Organizations I. - Skövde : Högskolan i Skövde. - 9163189186 - 9789163189180 ; , s. 39-56
  • Book chapter (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • IS-development efforts targeted for capturing and supporting knowledge sharing and learning processes within the social context of the work practice are in still their advent and lack proper theoretical foundation. These processes are vital to an organization as they are the sources of its innovative power and strategic survival. What an organization knows is embedded within the people constituting that very same organization. How this knowledge is generated, shared and applied in problem solving situations of an organization’s daily work is rooted within the social context of the practice. There do exist examples of work done in this direction in formulating guiding principles for IS-design of support systems, but we find that they are not adequately addressing the social dimensions of practice. Here we try to remedy this by drawing upon social theory of learning in looking how it may contribute to the IS-design process. This theory has shown great explanatory power for processes of knowledge sharing and learning within the social context of the work practice. In this regard, we use it to reflect upon the lessons learned from a development project.

  • Efficient and Secure Process and IT Integration in Healthcare
  • 2006
  • In: Knowledge in Organizations I. - : Högskolan i Skövde. - 9789163189180 - 9163189186 ; , s. 11-20
  • Book chapter (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • This paper presents a method based on process manager technology for making all actors (humans or information systems) involved in healthcare processes to communicate along these processes. The method utilizes straightforward and yet executable process diagrams. Furthermore, the paper suggests a number of additional features to the method that may cater for the representation of security and quality requirements, as well as enhanced efficiency of the healthcare processes.

  • Seeking business value using web services
  • 2006
  • In: Knowledge in Organizations I. - Skövde : Högskolan i Skövde. - 9163189186 - 9789163189180 ; , s. 189-200
  • Book chapter (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Flows of information, services and goods are not confined to an organisation’s internal structure, but today face a more distributed environment both in terms of time and space. Mergers and acquisitions imply that one and the same organisation no longer resides in one geographical location, and neither does it have a uniform IS/IT architecture. Web Services are one rather recent approach to obtaining increased interoperability between existing systems. This paper is focused on what business values organizations can achieve using Web Services, Results show ten such values, but also points to challenges that need to be addressed.

  • Perspectives on the support of knowledge work
  • 2006
  • In: Knowledge in organisations I. - : Skövde University , Skövde, Printed at Studentlitteratur, Lund Sweden. - 9789163189180 ; , s. 218-
  • Book chapter (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • This report discusses information systems as support systems for knowledge workers. A case is presented discussing the introduction of two types of information systems into an organisation as support for knowledge workers. The case is interpreted using a set of theories from knowledge theory and the area of knowledge management. The aim of this report is to give empirical input to the understanding of the conditions of knowledge work and information systems. An interpretative framework is presented consisting of a set of perspectives on knowledge work and the use of information systems.
