The main reasons for these descriptions, as suggested in police research are due to the profession’s shared risks and the role of authoritarianism. In this chapter, two complementary reasons are presented, both manifested in the image that police students and officers believe others have of them. The students’ images are formed from the feelings of being selected and that others distrust them. In conclusion, our results provide strong empirical support for the images as significant constructors in the formation of a professional police identity.
