- Kapitlet undersöker hur adoptioner påverkar flickors och familjemedlemmars liv utifrån L. M. Montgomerys klassiska flickbok om Anne, där adoption skildras i positiva termer och även kan kopplas till huvudpersonens självständighet och frigjordhet. Diskussionen av Anne på Grönkulla utgår från att ett critical literacy-perspektiv kan öppna en kanonisk text och göra den relevant för dagens klassrum. Frågor kring vems perspektiv som inte syns eller hörs i texten och vilka kulturella värden som texten förmedlar kan på ett produktivt sätt kopplas ihop med frågor om adoption för att analysera vilka implicita normer texten uttrycker kring exempelvis familjebildning och den samtida synen på flickor. Genom att sätta Montgomerys text i dialog med en nutida berättelse, Robin Benways Far from the Tree (2017), tydliggörs hur synen på dessa ämnen förändrats – eller inte – över tid.

Astrid Lindgren’s Seacrow Island from an Intermedial Perspective

- In our presentation we analyse how the chapter book Seacrow Island (1964 in Swedish), the original television series of the same name and the subsequent films have been reimagined as two new picturebooks illustrated by Maria Nilsson Thore (2019, 2020). We will discuss the artistic/didactic/considerations given to at once remaining respectful to the source material and to making the story an understandable and enjoyable experience for a new generation of readers.Astrid Lindgren’s works belong to Sweden’s cultural heritage and many of her books have been translated into multiple languages and are read around the world. It is interesting to ponder which of Lindgren’s books will live on as classics and what adaptations are required in terms of their content, language, style and form for this to happen. Here, it is also appropriate to consider what Göte Klingberg called medium-choosing adaptations, in order to give due consideration to how a story can maintain the reader’s interest in a new millennium (Klingberg 1972: 95). Likewise, to observe the artistic deliberations involved in the illustrator’s visualisations (Nikolajeva & Scott 2001: 41-60). In the context of children’s literature, classics are often adapted works that are more or less reworked versions of the source material, whether originally intended for children or adults. Many of the works we now call classics would not have survived without this reworking (Ehriander 2015: 26-27). It is also striking that the story of Seacrow Island, the archipelago and the people who live there, is now being reworked for a younger readership in much the same way as many of Lindgren’s other works, in keeping with the changing times and changes in reading habits over the half century since the first generation of children encountered the fictional world of Seacrow Island (Almgren White & Ehriander 2020).Selected BibliographyAstrid Lindgrens bildvärldar (ed.) - The Linnaeus University project “The Book Dog and Astrid Lindgren” seeks to bring children and literature together and to use the dog as a tool for this. The method involves children reading aloud to trained dogs, called book dogs. By studying the practice of the book dog, we seek more profound knowledge of the importance of the reading practice for children’s reading. Such knowledge can have didactic implications for reading practices also in contexts where there is no book dog. In the study reception theories (Langer in Envisioning knowledge.Building literacy in the academic disciplines, New York, Teachers College Press,2011a; Langer in Envisioning literature. Literary understanding and literature instruction, 2nd ed., New York, Teachers College Press,2011b) are developed with perspectives of discourse analysis (Fairclough in Discourse and social change, Polity Press, Cambridge,1992). and social semiotics (Halliday in Language as social semiotics. The social interpretation of language and meaning, Edward Arnold, London,1978). The result shows that the dog contributes with semiotic resources in the meaning-making process; the text world comes to life for the child through the expanded envisionment building where the dog is central. Since pupils read texts in all school subjects, the study should be relevant for all types of teachers when shaping reading practices that support pupil’s meaning-making, also in contexts where there is no book dog. The study can also say something about what engagement, attentiveness, and non-judgemental attitudes can mean for pupils, even they in reading and writing difficulties (Bergh Nestlog and Ehriander 2016).

- The author Astrid Lindgren (1907-2002) is for many Swedes a genuine national icon. On several occasions, when the most popular and influential Swede is to be announced, Astrid Lindgren’s name is always one of the top names. Astrid Lindgren is for the Swedes known not only as a famous author, but also as a person who spoke out on things she found wrong in the Swedish society. In the history of Swedish literature 1945 is usually regarded as a milestone and Astrid Lindgren’s book Pippi Longstocking was published and revolutionised both children’s literature and the attitude to children and their upbringing. Astrid Lindgren also worked as editor-in-chief for the publishing house Rabén & Sjögren from 1946 to 1970 and for almost a quarter of a century she was responsible for the children’s literature while at the same time she was in practise her own editor. Today, ten years after she passed away 94 years old, her remaining papers, letters and manuscripts are kept in different archives where interesting research can be carried out. There is a substantial amount of material from her rich and prolific life and in this article I wish to illustrate how this material can be used to provide a deeper knowledge of Astrid Lindgren as a person and as an editor.

Att skriva barn- och ungdomslitteratur behandlar skrivandets hantverk samtidigt som den utifrån ett litteraturvetenskapligt perspektiv fördjupar förståelsen för hur man skriver i olika genrer för en ung läsekrets.Boken tar bland annat upp vad som kännetecknar en berättelse för barn och ungdomar och hur den skrivs: Vad har den för egenart,vad skiljer den från vuxenlitteratur, och hur skapar man ett tilltal som passar unga? Genrer som fantasy, magisk realism och historiska berättelser behandlas, men också gränsgenrer och gränsmedier som fan fiction, datorspel och filmmanus. Här diskuteras också strategier för att gestalta det hotfulla eller svåra moraliska dilemman samt hur man kan undvika genusfällor.Att skriva barn- och ungdomslitteratur vänder sig till alla som är intresserade av barn- och ungdomslitteratur och som vill utveckla sitt eget skrivande. - När man skriver för barn kan begreppet barnperspektiv vara användbart. I detta kapitel undersöks hur begreppen barnperspektiv, barns perspektiv samt barnets perspektiv kan användas när man skriver texter som vänder sig till barn och unga och hur man kan använda sig av gestaltning för att uppnå ett barnperspektiv och skriva inifrån de barn man skildrar. Att tänka kring begreppen kan hjälpa författaren i skrivprocessen att få syn på det man vill gestalta. Det är viktigt att tänka igenom vad man lägger in i begreppet barnperspektiv och hur man förhåller sig till detta begrepp samt hur man kan använda sig av det för att man ska kunna välja att gestalta ur ett barnperspektiv om berättelsen kräver det. Det kan också vara intressant att låta sig inspireras av hur andra författare har tänkt kring och använt barnperspektivet för att stärka gestaltningen och därför är det viktigt att läsa barnlitteratur med detta i minnet. Barnperspektiv används inte bara inom litteraturvetenskapen och därför görs också en utblick mot angränsande forskningsfält för att vidare belysa hur man kan tänka kring och inspireras av begreppet.

- The project “Book Dog and Astrid Lindgren” at Linnaeus University, Sweden, aims to bring children together with literature and to use dogs as a tool for this. The project seeks to arouse a desire to read by making it appealing, and to spread knowledge about children’s literature in general and Astrid Lindgren’s works in particular. It is geared towards children with difficulties in reading, writing, and speech, children with low motivation for reading, children who already find it fun to read and who are prepared to read more, and adults who are in contact with these children. The method involves the children reading aloud to a dog that makes no demands or judgements. The dog has a calming effect in a situation that is stressful for many children. The project is run in collaboration with the Swedish dyslexia association Dyslexiförbundet, the Hundsam association, and schools and libraries, primarily focusing on children aged between 6 and 13.
